Happy bank holiday weekend mumsnet

Just wanting to see if anyone has any scary ghost stories to share or any scary situation stories.

Had my DN stay last week she is 3 almost 4 she was sat talking away to herself i said who are you talking to she said the lady that lives upstairs she's very nice and has asked what i am having to eat for my lunch. Every hair on my body stood on end.

Me an DH and my DSS have always said our house has a strange feeling especially in the one room. After talking to out NDN a few years back he said the elderly couple that lived here before both died in the back bedroom that is the room that makes you feel like you are being watched.

We've had a few strange things happen but never anything terrifying or anything bad. We've had the spare bedroom light repeatedly turn on throughout the night before only on one occasion, my DSS's and friend can charging downstairs a few years back hysterical saying their body spray just started spraying by itself whilst it was on the shelf and no one was near it. They wouldn't sleep upstairs for a week after.

At least my DN said she's a very nice lady if she said she was nasty i think I'd of left home Grin

I have the ghost of a young boy in my house my DH saw him when our eldest DC was a baby and i have recently out the corner of my eye seem a small child go past the door in our hallway late at night , both DC's fast asleep as i checked .My one DC picks up on them in her bedroom, it doesn't bother her at all.I am very sensitive and pick up on when the temp in the room etc changes .Things also move and they are put in a different place .

Love these threads. So for my penny's worth:
When DS was pre-school age, he talked about his "other family". Dad's occupation, brothers names, dog and that they lived alone as his mother had died. He described the house and location. All very strange.

Years ago I was babysitting my DN's three children and they were all in one bedroom. After about an hour of them going to bed, I heard scampering across the landing, like they were playing so went up to get them back in their room, but they were all fast asleep....

Same house, SIL heard heavy footsteps up the stairs when no-one else was in the house...

As a teenager I used to feel my bed shaking some nights. I also had loads of posters on my wall and woke up one morning to find them all taken off and piled neatly on the floor next to my bed....

After MIL died, at every family gathering in our house, the clock would always stop at exactly the same time. It ended up completely stopping at that time so took it to a clock repairer who couldn't find any problem so I eventually put it out with the rubbish. DS retrieved it for his room and it has worked ever since....

These stories are great. Sone of them terrifying but so fascinating. Thank you everyone for sharing please keep them coming.

The ones about people's DC are especially fascinating to remember a precious life.

Some scary ones about seeing spirits i honestly think I'd move out like run out the door and never come back 😂 i love reading & hearing about this stuff but to see it must be so scary

Daisydo48 i have seen spirits a few times now it did scare me at first but now it doesn't bother me .I am empathetic so i get names which turn out to be right which did unnerve me at first .I fully understand some people will think yeap ok which is fine 🙂 i will always try and rationalise it first rather than say oh yeap that is a ghost but i go with a paranormal group and have had things happen that there is no rational explanation for .

IHeartArya · 30/05/2019 23:43

Why oh why do I read this in the dark at night??

Rockmysocks · 31/05/2019 06:27

Had difficult early morning with baby and was rocking and shhhing at his little whisperings so they didn't escalate into full scale wah crying. I was reconciled to not getting any more sleep as this had been going on for over an hour. Husband was on nights.

So sat up in bed with little baby just thinking through the day, rocking and shhhing him. Not quite light yet.

Glanced up from baby and there at the end of the bed was a man, his head tilted to one side, looking down at us. Not flesh and blood but formed from a sort of light. I felt the most tremendous wave of love wash over me like I have never felt before. Whoever the man was, he was bringing me the most beautiful love.

Never seen him since but have had many strange happenings and experiences.

Rockmysocks · 31/05/2019 06:27

Whimperings not whisperings

floribunda18 · 31/05/2019 06:41

My dad was very ill and we knew he was dying and had only weeks to live. I kept seeing tiny white feathers everywhere in the days leading up to his death. Perfectly explainable, it was spring and nesting time for birds, yet I liked to find it comforting.

Daisydo48 · 31/05/2019 08:00

Hearthside amazing i definitely believe in it all 100% and not sure if i feel lucky or unlucky not to of seen anything myself. We've had things happen that offer no other explanation than other forces.

IHeartArya 😂😂

Rockmysocks now this is an experience i would truly like love how amazing ❤

Floribunda18 sorry for the loss of you dad. I know what you mean about the white feathers it's lovely. I got married on a budget my DH BF drove me to our wedding a couple of years later he died very young and very suddenly we were all devastated. We celebrated our wedding anniversary where we got married last (near the sea) was sat in the sun having a drink reminiscing about the day and talking about DH friend when a white feather landed on our table. No doubt it was from a seagull but it really made us smile

I remember seeing/reading something which said that there's a theory that memory is genetic, and therefore a child can sometimes remember something that their parents/grandparents experienced. If true, this might explain some of the "children with previous lives" stories.

Rainbowknickers · 01/06/2019 00:00

My friend has this-
He was on holiday with his wife & two kids-they passed a church
His daughter smiled and said
‘I used to come here when I was a boy’
She told them a lot of details and when they went it every single one was right
They where a bit freaked out and at the end of the holiday came home
She never mentioned it again

KellyW88 · 01/06/2019 00:50

After my Grandfather passed when I was 14 I was distraught. He raised me so it was akin to losing a Father.

He was a heavy drinker, smoker and not always the nicest man, but he loved me and my siblings so despite his deficiencies, I loved him and miss him deeply.

We remained in our childhood home after he died for two years. In that time my brother and I experienced some odd occurrences.

My Grandmother had decided to go on holiday for several weeks, leaving us with little money or food (she was in the midst of a breakdown) my brother and I were left to look after our younger sister. He and I argued a lot when I asked him to take some of the little money we had to get food from the local supermarket, he returned with half the items and a video game. I got extremely pissed off and he got angry and defensive and picked a cup up to throw at me (we were both teenagers and dealing with grief, badly) at that same moment our tea, sugar and coffee containers flew off the shelf behind him and he went white. He swore that he got very cold all of a sudden and could smell my Grandfather (tobacco and brandy smell).

Another time I was in the midst of a long crying session in my bedroom, regretting my inability to say goodbye to him when I had the chance. My brother sat with an arm around me trying to offer comfort. Our younger sister was staying at our Aunts for the weekend. Suddenly we heard our Grandfathers music playing from his office room downstairs (was meant to be a dining room but he used it to build models) when we got up the courage to go and check the music stopped. Upon investigation the CD player was unplugged (as it had been since his death) and the window had been opened a crack (as he sat by that window to smoke, it would often be left open by him. My brother and I knew that window had been closed when we had gone upstairs. Where we quickly retreated after quickly closing it again and hightailing it out of there!

I haven’t had any other experiences except - every so often, when I feel I’m on the edge of breaking down, I smell the tobacco and brandy smell again. Recently I lost my youngest son to Stillbirth, his name is Christopher. In the weeks since losing him I have come closer to breaking than ever before, kept sane by my two elder children who are twins and 19mo. Since his loss the smell seems to be here constantly.

JenMumma · 01/06/2019 03:22

@KellyW88 🙂 💐

Daisydo48 · 01/06/2019 06:57

@KellyW88 so sorry for your loss. The smell since losing Christopher must be your grandad letting you know he's looking after your boy on the otherside ❤

I had a strange experience camping when I was 19. My friend and I (both students) camped in a private wood in a remote part of the Lakes (with permission from the owner, a friend of my friend's dad).

The wood was beautiful, full of bluebells and ancient trees, some of them overturned in storms. We set up camp in a little clearing. It was cold so we wrapped up in layers, and made a fire. As dusk fell we felt really uneasy. We joked about it and put it down to the dark. We'd camped in remote places so it wasn't our first rodeo, but we just had this sense something was off. Like someone didn't like us being there! When we needed to wee we went together, one standing guard!

We turned in pretty early and couldn't sleep, so lay there with the flashlight on and chatted. My heart was racing and every noise made us jump. Around 2am I dozed off and woke to my friend shaking me. She said she'd heard someone coughing right outside the tent! I went out with the flashlight and shone it around and called out 'who is it?' but nobody came forward so we went back in. It was raining and we were freezing, so we sat in the tent in our sleeping bags with our hats, scarves, gloves and on and listened. I tried to make light of it and we agreed she must have heard a bird or something.

When dawn came the rain had stopped, we went out and the first thing I noticed was an empty packet of Rizlas at the treeline! (Neither of us smoked.) Then we noticed footprints in the mud, in a circle around our tent leading to the trees on the other side. In one place the ground was churned up as if someone had stamped around in one spot. They were big prints, like a man's boots.

We were so freaked out we packed up immediately and left. In our haste we went the wrong way and ended up in a different part of the wood. We scrambled up a bank and over huge knarled tree trunks, less scared now as it was sunny and the trees were thinning out. Then round a corner we came across another tent! It was clearly abandoned, ripped down the middle and full of dead leaves. There was an old sleeping bag in a sodden heap outside it, and rusted beer cans and a burnt bit of ground where someone had made a fire.

We couldn't get out of those woods fast enough! We mentioned the abandoned tent to my friend's dad who told the owner, apparently the tent had been there over a year! He left it in case someone came back for it. He had no idea about the man in the night, other than a trespassing hiker or tramp who stumbled upon us in the night. It really put us off camping!

I've a few woo things. I was leaning out of a sash window when I was 9. Victorian house. Suddenly felt something pull me back really hard. As I fell back into my room, the sash window crashed shut. If I'd still been leaning out I would have surely broken my neck at the very least.

My step mothers mum died. I really liked her. I was driving down to see my DF and DSM and was overtaken with grief. My driving became erratic I was sobbing so badly. I was only 19. I pulled into a lay-by and this presence arrived and I felt a hand on my hand and an overwhelming sense that everything would be ok. That she was ok. I stopped crying immediately and carried on driving.

I often bump into a person I was just thinking about. In London. So chances slim. Once I was walking down a London cobbled street and it reminded me of where BIL has had his 40th and sure enough walked round the corner and bumped into him. This was a part of London I didn't go to often. Or he.

I live in a 19th century house. I often hear noises when no one is here. Footsteps etc. Once I was in my bathroom and heard a young girl's voice behind me saying "it's not fair". I whizzed around and no one there. Went straight downstairs and DD and DS were both in the playroom engrossed in a movie. Both swear neither had moved. I often feel two presences in the house. A sad little girl and a slightly more malevolent old man. Do not like being here on my own.

Bunnylady53 · 02/06/2019 15:49

Have posted about this more than once but it still freaks me out. Years ago, one of the Scream movies was being advertised a lot on Channel 4. Every time the ad reached a particular point, the tv switched itself off! I think it happened at least 4 times & always at exactly the same point. Needless to say, I didn’t go to watch the movie!

Fucksandflowers · 02/06/2019 15:58

Because spirits can't hurt us really, apart from scare us

Not true!

I won’t go into it much here but my mum gets messages from spirit and premonitions and has been pushed before by a negative entity.

She was just walking down the street with her sister when someone pushed her forcefully enough forward she had to grab a hold of my aunt.
No one behind her.

Negative spirits can also pretend to be loved ones in order to trick you.

There are absolutely are bad spirits out there and they absolutely can do you harm.

Fucksandflowers · 02/06/2019 15:58

But I agree that in obestepsideways story it sounds like a human not a spirit

Binkytheslug · 02/06/2019 17:08

Ok....
When I was a kid, my home town had a railway that closed in 1969, though passenger trains stopped in 1955. About 1978, my friend and I were exploring the old station near us. The track was all gone, but the ballast was still there, and there were still bits and pieces of track around. The station house was intact, but the old waiting room was basically a shell. My friend and I used to like picking up the rail bolts and track chairs- our parents used them as doorstops. We were both 11. My friend nudged me and pointed. I looked up and saw a man in old (1940’s-ish) clothes stood on the platform. He was clearly visible, and stood like he was waiting for a train. There was no other reason for a man dressed in that way to be standing on a disused station platform. We looked at him for a couple of minutes, but he didn’t acknowledge us. We glanced at each other, looked up at him again, and he was gone. There was nowhere for him to go, the entrance was on the other platform, so he would have had to crunch his way across the ballast, or walked past us to the crossing, and there was no time for him to have done that. He just vanished.
I’ve walked and cycled up that way many times since- my Gran lived in Station Road- but I never saw him again. It’s all different now, the waiting rooms and ballast are gone, the railway is a cycle path, and most of the platform area including the place we saw the man is overgrown. The station house is lived in, and what’s left of the platforms is a garden. I’ve often wondered if anyone else has seen a man waiting for a train at (possibly outing myself) Fort Brockhurst station.
