True anecdote. Child in class wanted some water. Teacher directed child to drinking water tap in class and a clean cup. Child said that mum did not allow water from the tap; child only allowed to drink filtered water. For context, drinking water in our area is wonderful and the child has no medical issues.
Mind. blown.

Have to add it was because one day I turned the tap on and disgusting brown water came out one day and I just can't bring myself to use our own tap anymore

Unihorn · 24/05/2019 08:21

My Welsh water is always nice and cold. My family's Essex water by comparison never seems to get as cold!

ControversialFerret · 24/05/2019 08:28

I used to only drink filtered water in our last place, because it wasn't very nice straight from the tap.

Here I don't bother as the water is fine. I'd use a filter if I needed to, but no point in generating more plastic waste if I don't.

BogglesGoggles · 24/05/2019 17:32

It’s a typo (fat fingers) filtered.

BogglesGoggles · 24/05/2019 17:35

@Nunogonclaves the water where I live has made my hair fall out. I hate to think what would happen if I drank it. It’s really really not about the taste.

JingsMahBucket · 24/05/2019 21:12

@BogglesGoggles yup. The calcium also ruins my skin too.

BogglesGoggles · 24/05/2019 21:16

@jingsmabucket yes! My skin isn’t as bad as my hair but it’s really not in good shape either.

chocolatemademefat · 25/05/2019 01:47

I had a neighbors child at my house and when she needed a drink she informed me she didn’t drink sink water.

I can’t understand the need for adults and kids alike to always be armed with a bottle of water. No wonder plastic waste is out of control. I know some people have drinking bottles they can reuse but they must be in the minority.

ProfessorofPerspective · 25/05/2019 02:00

We live in the middle of nowhere and have an unfiltered supply direct from a spring. Apparently 'raw spring water' is all the rage in LA, celebrities paying up to $37 a bottle. I'm missing a trick!

Likethebattle · 25/05/2019 02:16

We never had access to water bottles at school when I was young but there was a Glass next the sink. I live in an area of Scotland where water is actually bottled for sale, the tap water is lovely. I remember getting water from the filter in our London office and nearly threw up, how anyone drinks that stuff I can’t imagine!

Herland · 25/05/2019 02:17

You think you've heard it all now.... Really.? Someone has a preference with regard to the water they drink. Big whoop.

user1473878824 · 25/05/2019 02:36

It’s tap water not nuclear waste ffs

user1480880826 · 25/05/2019 05:50

It’s not as bad as the people I see filling the boots of their cars with bottled water because they won’t drink tap water. Imagine how much plastic they must get though!

floribunda18 · 25/05/2019 06:09

I don't know how I coped through 19 years of education and 40 years of work without a bottle of water constantly by my side

Well, I "coped" but I remember being thirsty a lot as a kid.

HermioneMakepeace · 25/05/2019 06:15

People who sip from water bottles all day piss me off. There’s something annoyingly smug about them.

floribunda18 · 25/05/2019 06:18

I don't know how people manage without having a drink of something regularly in an office, it's such a dry environment. I have tap water in a pint glass and have noticed that colleagues who don't drink water have loads of tea instead.

BertrandRussell · 25/05/2019 06:23

“the quality of tap aster in most parts of Britain is absolutely horrid.“

You may not like the taste, but the quality is fine.

hazell42 · 25/05/2019 06:24

Another vote for Welsh water. Couldn't believe the taste of water from London. My son told me it was one of the things he missed most about home

AmeriAnn · 25/05/2019 06:27

Our water comes from one of our wells. It tastes lovely and is ice cold.

Roussette · 25/05/2019 06:27

Pathetic. When my kids were young (adult now) one had a friend whose Mum insisted she only drank bottled water (very unusual in those days..)

She developed awful teeth because of lack of chlorine. (Confirmed by dentist) Water in England is fine. Mine are late 20s and haven't even had a filling yet.

masktaster · 25/05/2019 07:01

I think most primary classrooms have a tap for painting lessons etc

They really don't. I've worked in many primaries, and only remember one with a classroom tap.

isabellerossignol · 25/05/2019 07:16

I can understand having a preference for filtered water for whatever reason but to just refuse perfectly safe tap water when that's all that's available is just daft.

I'm in my 40s and like other posters we went the whole way through primary school only being allowed a drink at lunchtime. There would have been a serious punishment if someone had got a bottle out and started drinking from it in the middle of lessons.

AnnaDine · 25/05/2019 07:31

Another vote for welsh water - also great for washing hair!

ReasonablyIntelligent · 25/05/2019 07:41

For those of you who only drink bottled water - why? How do you justify the plastic waste? And the expense?
Why not get a filter hug, or even a filter tap?
