Filtered water - well, going by what emerges from the taps at work, I'd say keep to filtered; saying that it is potable doesn't allow for interesting configurations where the 'cold' actually comes from the storage rather than the mains. Staff use filtered water rather than taps for that reason - and it tastes better/not of ancient plumbing.
But ear defenders being a reason for criticism? Fuck off. Plenty of children need them because, whilst they might like to see planes, the actual sound at an airshow is so loud, it can be scary. Attending a festival can be fun, but the music could be too loud for sensitive ears like those of a child (even before you take into account such extra sensitivity as comes with Autism) or an adult who is there for hours, such as when they're working the sound desk or on a stall near to the stage PA.
I wear filters every time I am in a noisy area and full over ear defenders in the noisiest situations. I've still ended up with Tinnitus, but it's a damn sight less than if I hadn't used them - and the places I work are a damn sight quieter than underneath a bunch of aeroplanes. Sudden very loud sounds can cause hearing damage, but less loud ones over a greater period of time do as well.
The sound pressure level of a single aeroplane taking off or overhead can be in excess of 130dB. This is 100 times louder (it's a logarhythmic scale) than the threshold for causing instantaneous hearing damage. And shows go on for hours, have music, explosions and loads of other loud sounds.
Having proper hearing protection from a young age is one of the most sensible things to happen in recent years.
