to use other people's £5 off vouchers at Morrisons?

The other day I was using the self-checkout and noticed that whoever had been in before me had been issued a £5 off voucher. They were obviously long gone and, as they hadn't taken the voucher, were probably unaware they'd even earned one.

I thought about it while I scanned my shopping, but assumed if I handed it in then the staff would probably either throw it away or use it themselves. So I scanned it and got £5 off my shopping.

Feeling a bit guilty, but does it matter?

But at least if it’s binned it doesn’t take it off the customers account, they can still use their vouchers.

I think people are getting confused between “get £5 off when you spend £40” vouchers; and actual vouchers linked to loyalty cards which are actually worth £5 in store. The former are pretty much printed off at random, or when they can tell you don’t use the store much and they want to tempt you in. The latter are actually linked to an individual’s account and you are in effect “stealing” from them.

Morrison’s will credit you back a missing voucher if you notice it’s gone- we’ve done it. I actively look out for missed vouchers at the self scanning till!

They could easily check if they’re due a voucher, it tells you online how many points you have.

They could.... but do most people actually even think to do this in practice, unless maybe they're really on their uppers and desperately awaiting their next voucher to be able to buy food?

Having said that, though, I remember a thread from a while ago where OP's new DH, when single and in a well-paid job, had always assigned his online Tesco order points to his DM's clubcard for a little bonus for her. His new DW spotted the discrepancy between where the points were going and the number of her (family) clubcard and immediately changed it over. His DM noticed and was furious, cue massive bunfight.
