to wonder why parents take a toddler abroad on holiday

I'm currently on holiday. At the airport saw parents stressed out with toddlers. Airport shop toddlers wanting LOL dolls causing arguments, parents losing their shit. On the plane toddlers running riot - parents losing their shit. At the hotel toddlers screaming all day. Surely it's better just to leave them at home so you can enjoy a bit of peace and quiet?

Who are you leaving them with?

melissasummerfield · 23/05/2019 16:07

Yeah just put them in kennels for a week Hmm

crazyasafox · 23/05/2019 16:08

Just leave your toddlers at home why you go off abroad on holiday?

Leave them with WHO? The bloody cat! Hmm

This place sometimes!!! Confused

Dontforgettoscreamatthebear · 23/05/2019 16:08

Because there are lovely moments too and I wouldn't want to go without DS!

Also, it's the same sort of thing at home anyway, at least on holiday you can go through this stuff in the sun (usually)

Lenny1980 · 23/05/2019 16:09

I’m on holiday with my toddler right now, and there are many other toddlers here. And I can assure you it’s not how you have described.

BogglesGoggles · 23/05/2019 16:09

You can’t keave toddlers alone at home all week.

managedmis · 23/05/2019 16:09

I agreed until I read the leave them at home bit. Fairy nuff, but with whom?

Because we want a holiday with our children?! Yes some moments are stressful but mostly it's lovely seeing her enjoy a new place/new sights etc

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/05/2019 16:10

Clearly goady bollocks.

I don't see why boozy Brits can't stay at home, instead of ruining it for the rest of us.

crazyasafox · 23/05/2019 16:10

Ooops, posted twice! Blush

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 23/05/2019 16:10

Whenever I see parents on holiday with small children it never looks fun. Same shit but without the convenience of being in your own home.

Passthecherrycoke · 23/05/2019 16:11

Toddlers? I had the best holidays with my toddlers. That’s what family holidays are all about.

I can’t believe you’d even think people would miss a holiday because they had toddlers?!

Mac47 · 23/05/2019 16:11

I took mine because she was ace and we had a brilliant time, with no losing of shit involved.

BarbarianMum · 23/05/2019 16:11

Well some of us quite liked our toddlers and wanted them with us. Even if they did sometimes play up. Never come across the scenario you're describing but.

Fatted · 23/05/2019 16:11

I agree with you OP. I can't think of anything worse than taking my DC on holiday with me. Which is why I haven't had a holiday in seven years!!

WalterIris · 23/05/2019 16:12

That hasn't been my general experience. I take a fair few flights, never have I actually had a terrible running riot child on board. The odd baby crying for 10 mins or so is to be expected.

How are children supposed to magically learn how to be, travel and behave in different environments if they are never taken? They can't just turn 18 years old and suddenly know

Ledkr · 23/05/2019 16:12

I took all my kids all.ivwe the place as a lone parents some of the time.
They didn't behave like that and I didn't lose my shit.
What a stupid thing to say. maybe miserable smug faced gommos should stay at home and not go out in public 🤣

FromDespairToHere · 23/05/2019 16:13

What age would you say it's ok to take your child away then? 3? 5? If you have a 2yo and a 6yo do you just take the older one?

I brought my DD up as a single parent and some of my happiest memories are of the two of us holidaying in Greece.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 23/05/2019 16:14

Toddlers would be losing their shit at home too, might as well do it somewhere sunny where you aren't in charge of the cleaning!

And like others, we don't have anyone to leave then with.

Yanbu and also showing an astonishing lack of imagination about other peoples' circumstances. Or is this goady on purpose?

CostanzaG · 23/05/2019 16:14

And who is looking after the toddler while you're away???

We always took our toddler away and had a whale of a time! Yeah the airport bit isn't always great but worth it!

HavelockVetinari · 23/05/2019 16:14

Ah, don't be such a MF.

DH and I are just back from a week on a Greek island with toddler DS, it was wonderful! Seeing his little face light up at the huuuuge sandpit (the beach), jumping in the waves with him, watching his joy at the special attention paid to him by waiters at restaurants - it was utterly joyful and lovely Smile

Not true. We took our twins abroad when they were toddlers and it was lovely to not have to worry about cooking or tidying for once, three swimming pools to choose from and lovely sunshine for a week.

SheisMammyof2 · 23/05/2019 16:15

I was with you up until you suggested leaving them home Hmm. I totally don't get going on holidays with a toddler, or two as it would have been in our case. Same sh*t, different location, but with the added burden of trying to stop them getting burned in the sun and without the comforts of home. No foreign holidays here until they're at least three. But each to their own.

DoneLikeAKipper · 23/05/2019 16:15

I can leave my kids at home whilst I go sun myself? Bloody hell, when did the law change? Do I just leave bowls of food out for the children/cats? Is there a Baby Bum video on YouTube that can actually run for a whole week? I best get planning!
