If you were staying at a hotel and continental option was offered what would you expect that to include?

EggysMom · 22/05/2019 18:18

Depends on the level of hotel.

Cheap - choice of cereals, toast, maybe yoghurt, maybe danishes, coffee/tea.

Posh - choice of cereals, choice of toast, bagel, croissant, yoghurt, other fruit, danish pastries, thinly sliced cheese and meats, coffee/tea, fruit juice.

IncognitaIgnorama · 22/05/2019 18:18

Coffee and a pastry? At a minimum, anyway. Nothing hot/cooked, even on a maximum level.

herculepoirot2 · 22/05/2019 18:19

Budget/mid-range/luxury?

ScreamingValenta · 22/05/2019 18:20

A croissant and some orange juice in my experience.

Aberforthsgoat · 22/05/2019 18:20

Sorry I didn’t really give much detail, it’s a relatively expensive hotel - 4 star.

The continental offering was a mini croissant in a sealed packet and a slice of dairy Lea cheese....

misskatamari · 22/05/2019 18:20

I'd expect some cereals, toast, fruit, cheese and sliced meats, yoghurt, croissants and danish type things

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/05/2019 18:20

Coffee, pastry, maybe a pot of yoghurt or some muesli?

IntoValhalla · 22/05/2019 18:21

Pretty much what EggysMum said - dependant on the calibre of hotel I think. But at minimum, if I saw “continental breakfast”, I’d be expecting cereal, toast, maybe some sort of pastry (croissants probably), juice, tea/coffee.

misskatamari · 22/05/2019 18:21

@Aberforthsgoat - yeah, that's a bit shit. I'd definitely be expecting more than that, even at somewhere budget

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 22/05/2019 18:21

Tea, Coffee, fruit juice
Croissants/pastries
Bread/toast plus jam/honey/butter
A selection of cereals
If non UK then possibly some cold meats/cheeses

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/05/2019 18:21

That’s shite @Aberforthsgoat

I’d probably complain but i am very easily heartbroken by a poor hotel breakfast

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/05/2019 18:21

Fresh orange juice
Fresh coffee (unlimited)
Toast from a bloomer loaf , choice of preserves
Pastries - croissants, almond croissants , those Danish pastries and cinnamon rolls, pecan slice

Darn it , I need to do a Continental Breakfast for Bank Holiday Grin

IntoValhalla · 22/05/2019 18:22

Aberforth Shock
You get better offerings than that in a Travel Lodge Confused

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/05/2019 18:23

That's worse than what I was offered at a Hilton Express with no kitchen. I'd be complaining.

PineappleTart · 22/05/2019 18:25

That's pretty poor, I love breakfast

flumpybear · 22/05/2019 18:26

That's piss poor ! I would t stay there again and I'd write a review explaining

Are there pictures in their brochures or online of their breakfast? You could compare and talk tontheir duty manager or general manager about the crappy offering and how it doesn't compare if there are luxurious breakfast pictures

herculepoirot2 · 22/05/2019 18:27

Seriously? I would complain.

outsho · 22/05/2019 18:29

Cereal, fruit, yogurt, a variety of pastries, juice, coffee/tea. Some also offer toast with a toaster to make it yourself.

moonrises · 22/05/2019 18:30

My bar would be set by the premier Inn, so cereal, croissants, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, mini muffins, crumpets, unlimited tea/coffee and juices.

herculepoirot2 · 22/05/2019 18:30

Premier Inn is the best mid-range hotel breakfast. If I go to a four star hotel and it’s worse than that, I’m displeased.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 18:32

God no. My most recent stay at a 4 star had an array of fresh fruit (cut up - so mixed fruit, watermelon, mandarins, pineapple etc.) Fresh fruit, cheeses, some cold sliced meats, cold hard boiled eggs, danishes, fresh croissants, coffee, tea, 3 different fresh juices and cereals and milk. Rolls or bread to be toasted.
You could also go for the full english which had bacon, scrambled egg, fried egg, sausage, mushroom, tomato (grilled), beans, hash browns.
It was buffet.

Will try to find a link to hotel as it was a really lovely breakfast.

GraceMarks · 22/05/2019 18:32

Please tell us where this hotel was so I can be sure never to go there! What were they offering for the cooked breakfast? A pop tart?

Aberforthsgoat · 22/05/2019 18:33

@paulhollywoodssexgut amazing name btw. I am easily heartbroken too and look forward to a good continental. The cooked breakfast offering is really good which lots of variety so I was hoping for a selection of pastries, fruit, muesli maybe, maybe a small platter of cold meats and cheeses but wasn’t sure if my expectations are set too high!

OP posts:
Intothe · 22/05/2019 18:33

Travelodge do a good fried breakfast, but it's about 8 quid.

tardyheart · 22/05/2019 18:34

We stopped in a 4* hotel this week and the continental selection was:-

Croissant, Pain Au Chocolate, small Danishes.
Crumpets & Pancakes
Sliced White & Brown Bread (pots of preserves & Nutella)
Seeded bread, french stick & fruit bread to slice
Muesli, 3/4 types of cereal, overnight oats in mini Kilner Jars
Bowls of prepared fruit (Pineapple, Melon, Grapes, Grapefruit)
Pots of fruit yogurt & big bowl of Greek yogurt
Sliced Cheese, Ham, Salami, Mortadella
Jugs of fresh Orange & Apple juice, miniature bottles of smoothies
Unlimited tea & coffee

We have stayed in a cheapo French F1 hotel before and had much more than you did for about 5 Euros & the quality was better than expected. I would complain at your offering.
