And they should have?

There's a documentary on iPlayer, but no film.

Netflix looks like slim pickings too. I can only find "A touch of mink" on there. Sad

Why should they have?

tessiegirl · 16/05/2019 22:35

I hope some of the old Doris Day films are shown soon. They were fab

jacksonmaine · 16/05/2019 22:36

Yes bad show by the BBC.

RoomR0613 · 16/05/2019 22:40

I think she specifically asked for no fuss to be made. Given the way they usually respond to these kind of things I assume the BBC are simply respecting her wishes and her family.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/05/2019 22:45

I wouldn’t call showing one of her films ‘a fuss’.

KatherineJaneway · 16/05/2019 22:46

They probably won't pay for the rights to show them

RubberTreePlant · 16/05/2019 22:52

Maybe at the weekend.

I agree @StillCoughingandLaughing that calmly broadcasting one of her films wouldn't constitute "a fuss".

They did on BBC four and a tribute program that I watched.

5foot5 · 16/05/2019 22:57

Would anyone watch? Would they not seem terribly dated?

RubberTreePlant · 16/05/2019 22:59

They did on BBC four and a tribute program that I watched.

A film and a tribute? The tribute must be the thing I watched on iPlayer. What was the film?

PrivateIsles · 16/05/2019 23:01

Film 4 are showing a few next week - on the bank holiday maybe.

happyhillock · 16/05/2019 23:02

Hopefully at the weekend

Mac47 · 16/05/2019 23:03

I was hoping for "on moonlight bay", haven't seen it in so long, one of my favourite ever films.

RubberTreePlant · 16/05/2019 23:03

Thanks @PrivateIsles

I must be able to subscribe to that somehow. It's one of the few channels I miss from our old Sky subscription days.

Would they not seem terribly dated?

Depends which ones they are imo. The Man Who Knew Too Much is brilliant.

HeronLanyon · 16/05/2019 23:05

Dated !? Blimey Calamity Jane is just great. Amazing score. Yes dated in lots of ways - so what. Shall we stop watching films or reading any novel written before, what 2010?? Sorry that triggered me !

RubberTreePlant · 16/05/2019 23:07

The same sarcastic response jumped into my head.

I'm now making a list of "dated" culture Grin

Heron I'm with you there. I love old films soooo much.

WineIsMyCarb · 16/05/2019 23:12

@RubberTreePlant Chaucer. The man thinks sticking your arse out of the window to fart in someone's face because they are trying to catch you having it off with someone you shouldn't be is funny. Stupid, very long-time-dead man!

Quintella · 16/05/2019 23:13

The BBC generally shows those kinds of films on BBC2 at the weekend.

magicstar1 · 16/05/2019 23:13

We have an amazing cinema with waiter service etc. and they show old movies on a Friday afternoon. They’re showing Calamity Jane and I’m bringing my mother.
Her death was on all the news programmes here, and the newspapers. She was amazing, and I hope there are plenty of her movies on soon.

PrivateIsles · 16/05/2019 23:15

magic that sounds fab. It's great seeing old films on the big screen - as they were meant to be seen!

WineIsMyCarb · 16/05/2019 23:17

Not sure I've seen any DD films though. The Man Who KTM sounds good, so may just pop down to blockbuster* and see if they have a copy.

Blockbuster obvs a joke, but really do want to see one of her films. Is Man Who KTM the recommendation? I'm looking for a Gateway Drug for DD films. DH and I like to find a film theme and make our own movie season. We've enjoyed:

All the James Bond films season
Tom Hanks in the 80s& 90s season
The Rock in an improbable storyline season
The Dan Brown Opus Dei films... oh Da Vinci code, that's it!
