Missed odd months, then had a 4 month gap and thought that was it. But no, it's back to odd months again and alternating light and heavy.
Haven't had kids, so not sure if Mother Nature is punishing me, lol.

My friend is 60 and has her normal monthly periods! They are the same as they've always been, though she's lucky they are problem free.
But yes I was surprised

Pipandmum · 15/05/2019 18:40

I’m 57 still get the odd one. If concerned ask your GP.

Addicted2Sugar · 15/05/2019 18:43

My Mum still had regular periods till she was 61. I am OVERJOYED to hear that we generally follow our mothers. Overjoyed I can tell you.

WeWantSweet · 15/05/2019 18:49

Thanks for replies. Not too unusual then. Not concerned really, just a bit miffed. Lol @ Addicted2Sugar

My Mum had regular periods until age 55, then they stopped for a bit, then started again for a couple more years.

I'm 50 and fully expecting to follow suit. Still getting fairly regular periods but lighter than they used to be.

Look on the bright side : while you still have periods your hormones will protect you from heart disease and thinning bones. Unless that is rubbish which I have read somewhere.

WeWantSweet · 15/05/2019 19:09

Thanks bit, maybe it is delaying some stuff.

I'm not following my mother. She had a fairly early menopause (with lots of symptoms) - her periods stopped in her early 40s. I'm 51 and still regular as clockwork. I have a 5 year old conceived naturally.

I guess the bright side is while we're still menstruating away we don't need HRT.

DontTouchMyCurls · 15/05/2019 19:37

Oo, this is news to me! I'm almost 50 and still fairly regular with the odd month missed, though they're really heavy and I flood when I stand up, plus other perimenopause symptoms People tell me to ask for HRT but haven't really looked into it properly and didn't know you don't take it if you still have periods.

My DM was 60... Only ten more years of bloodbath hell!!

HazelBite · 15/05/2019 19:47

I was 64 when I had my last one!
Like a PP mine were very heavy, and I took HRT from the age of 58. I took one that allowed a period once a month (a bit like the pill) I would come off it periodically to see if they had stopped, which they did when I was 64. I still take HRT (keeps me sane) but a different one as I don't have periods any more.

WeWantSweet · 15/05/2019 19:48

My understanding is that you are in peri-menopause (with all that may, or may not entail) until you have a year without a period which then means you have reached actual menopause?

Jesus. 64?? I’m 52 and I wish they’d bugger off. Can’t imagine having to put up with them until mid-60s although yes, protective factors I suppose Confused

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 15/05/2019 20:04

64!!!!!!

I’m 39 and thought I was heading towards the end of periods!

I started at 13 or 14 so that makes me exactly halfway through them.

WTF!!!!

In fact - as I had a good 4 years off in total due to pregnancy and breastfeeding plus I’ve been on the mini pill for the last couple of years which seems to stop them I probably have more periods ahead of me than behind me.

No Fucking Way.

Am so going to flounce off this thread in horror now!

maddiemookins16mum · 15/05/2019 20:07

55 this year, regular as bleedin clockwork (more’s the pity).

Pinkarsedfly · 15/05/2019 20:07

Jesus. I’m 45 and can be regularly heard wailing ‘I’m too old for this shit!’

I used to dread menopause. Not any more. Bring. It. On.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 15/05/2019 20:09

I'm praying to God I'm one of the lucky ones having periods until quite late in life. Do not want all the horrible symptoms associated with the menopause. Have fibromyalgia and don't think I can take much more. My mother had it early and I'm rapidly approaching the age she was when they stoppedSad

Singlenotsingle · 15/05/2019 20:17

64??? I was 50 and glad to get rid of them!

Does that mean, pip, laiste, Maddie, Catherine, you risk getting pregnant right through your 50s and maybe 60s? Shock

WeWantSweet · 15/05/2019 20:23

Catherine that's what confuses me, whether it's actually during peri-menopause time where the potentially horrible symptoms run riot but then calm down/disappear when you've hit the 1 year with no period, actual menopause?

OP posts:
lljkk · 15/05/2019 20:30

If you read the menop boards on MN, they are full of women insisting they have terrible perimenop symptoms even while their periods are still happening (albeit perhaps not as clockwork scheduled as previously).

Mine are trouble free so not bother to me.

Laiste · 15/05/2019 20:32

I think the chances of me falling pregnant are pretty slim, even though i have a regular cycle. Slim to almost zero. Although i did fall for DD4 (5) naturally at 45 it took us two years of meticulous charting and temp taking to get the timing spot on. (we think it might have been low sperm count as much as age) Since DD came along as far as contraception goes I must confess we just avoid my ovulation time and it seems to be working ...

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/05/2019 20:33

Seriously?? Ah fuck it - I thought they would be long gone by 50!

Redcrayons · 15/05/2019 20:42

Ffs I can’t do another 15 years of it! I’m 47, I thought I’d be done by 50.

I’ve got peri symptoms, but the doctors say until I go a whole year without a period I can’t have HRT. But the bastard keeps showing up. I’ve only missed 2 in the last 2 years, despite having sweats, palpitations, crazy-making anxiety.

DontCallMeShitley · 15/05/2019 20:47

I wish mine hadn't stopped (was earlier than many people) because what happens afterwards wasn't so great. If yours are straightforward look on the bright side, it could be a lot worse later on.

bridgetreilly · 15/05/2019 20:50

This is the most depressing thread ever. I'm 45 and have been having erratic (anything from 3 to 12 weeks) periods since I was 40. Really, really hoping not to have another 15 years of this!

Andylion · 15/05/2019 20:53

That's what I thought too. Made it to 11 months, YAU!, then last November, it came back. Now it's been twice since then.

borntobequiet · 15/05/2019 20:55

I’m in my mid 60s and still have a cycle. I had a Mirena fitted 3 years ago to prevent heavy bleeding - I still get light spotting every 3 months or so, still get PMS (though far less severe than I used to). I take HRT in the form of oestrogen gel and have absolutely no intention of stopping. My menstrual cycle has made my life a misery on and off since I was fourteen.
