To think that Cadbury’s have way missed the memo?

Just seen an advert for the new Cadbury’s buttons treat box thing - think they’re called Treasures?

Plastic box. Two big compartments. Shite plastic toy. About four buttons.

Have Cadbury’s missed the cutting-down-on-plastic memo? What’s wrong with a bag?!? And why the need for an additional treat when you’re already giving buttons (or a Freddo)

Am I a miserable bitch, or is this just ridiculous?

To think that Cadbury’s have way missed the memo?

I agree. All this stuff adds up.

GabsAlot · 13/05/2019 21:04

looks stingy but then i eat a whiole bag of giant buttons to myself

chainofevents · 13/05/2019 21:12

@GabsAlot

DSD introduced me to the mixed milk and white button ‘share bag’ on Friday. Game changer.

How is it different to a Kinder egg? No-one complains about those

It's not and I do for a start. But why launch more of the same shit?

Serin · 13/05/2019 21:25

YANBU, The world does not need more plastic crap.

Alena92 · 13/05/2019 21:28

Also, should the chocolate not be the treat in itself (on a diet, chocolate buttons are my weakness - appreciate this is likely to be me being highly miserable)
Well obviously you don’t want a toy, you’re an adult! But for kids, the treat is the toy and not the chocolate!

TulipsTulipsTulips · 13/05/2019 21:31

The 1980s called, they want their tacky promo back.

I agree OP.

YetAnotherNameChanged · 13/05/2019 21:37

Yet another ridiculous thing from Cadbury.

WhiskersPete · 13/05/2019 21:44

Don’t Cadbury make their chocolate out of plastic now too? Certainly tastes like it

Allhailthesun · 13/05/2019 21:48

It would be fine if it was still 1978. A chocolate and a toy in a cute package would have been the treat of the year.

Now they will be dished out weekly alongside a daily influx of other plastic sugary carby treats. It’s the amount of shit not the shit itself.

CalmdownJanet · 13/05/2019 21:48

Maltesers Truffles are the same, the amount of plastic on each sweet is ridiculous!

BlackPrism · 13/05/2019 21:53

Agreed. Their dark milk is amazing though. They need to start packaging in something made of wheat and paper or something

SoupDragon · 13/05/2019 21:58

What’s wrong with a bag?

I do think this shows the problem we have with plastic. It's just everywhere and we've stopped thinking about it or noticing it (and I include myself here). The plastic tray part might be recyclable but the peel off lid isn't and nor is the toy. The bag would be no better. As a PP said, an egg carton type material would be better, like the "egg and spoon" things (Which have a plastic spoon 🙄).

stressedoutpa · 13/05/2019 22:03

I couldn't agree more.

I hate Cadbury's now and this doesn't help their cause.

Jinglejanglefish · 13/05/2019 22:03

I thought the exact same when I saw the as! And I do complain about kinder eggs too.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 13/05/2019 22:06

Their chocolate tastes like plastic nowadays anyway so they have to give you plastic tat toys to encourage you to buy it.

Totally agree with you OP. I thought the same when I saw the ad.

IceIceCoffee · 13/05/2019 22:07

It doesn'yt always matter if its recyclable when a lot of councils don't recycle plastic. I live in a big city and they don't accept plastic in the bins. I know there are facilities elsewhere but not always accesible.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 13/05/2019 22:08

Their dark milk is amazing though.

Oh no I was really disappointed with it! Love the ads for it though! Grin

Alena92 · 13/05/2019 22:13

Oh yes dark milk is divine

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 13/05/2019 22:14

🙄🙄🙄

Walkaround · 13/05/2019 22:20

Cadbury's chocolate is vile these days - smooth and waxy. It has lost all of its interesting textures and after-taste. It's just cheap crap, now, like their stupid plastic pot and toy.

chipsandgin · 13/05/2019 22:27

@StillCoughingandLaughing - we can just stop using plastic - in fact a number of countries have committed to banning single use plastic by 2021, the alternative is a doomed planet!:

www.earthday.org/plasticban/

Also if you have Netflix watch ‘A Plastic Ocean’. The implications of having a ‘don’t care’ attitude about continued use of single use plastics are terrifying...really worth doing some research & seeing if your opinion changes? Plenty of viable alternatives, especially when it comes to food packaging. Cadbury’s now tastes like wax candles so I’d be swerving that anyway!

MammaSchwifty · 13/05/2019 22:27

Agreed, it's completely tone-deaf and out of date.

They also missed the memo about not altering the recipe for their chocolate so that it tastes like cheap, gritty, chocolate flavoured coating, and fucking about with the shape, presumably to try to mitigate the impact.

Missingstreetlife · 13/05/2019 22:27

Plastic is a recent invention, we can live without it

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 13/05/2019 22:33

I am having a long running argument with DD (12) over which chocolate is better, Dairy Milk or galaxy. I say galaxy she says DM (and all her friends agree) although both are clearly far inferior to Lindt
Back to the point, yes i think Cadbury ABU by bring out blatantly unneccessary plastic packaging. Even foil wrapping is more easily recyclable.
On a similar note i was appalled at the 02 recently that all the massively overpriced food sold there came in cardboard cups/trays bit there were no recycling bins for it.
