Mine are 10 and 14 now and they just drink milk mostly, water or occasionally apple juice. they won;t drink squash or anything fizzy. don't like it. I just wondered what others drink and whether this was normal. If we are out in a cafe they tend to ask for a glass of milk, or sometimes a hot chocolate.

Whats your AIBU ?

SingingSands · 13/05/2019 16:41

Mine are 15 and 11. They mostly drink water at home. Sometimes diluted squash, very occasionally fresh orange or apple if we have it. Youngest likes a coke if we're eating out, eldest likes a lemonade. So mostly just water really.

They both like a glass of Buck's Fizz at Christmas, New Year and birthdays!

outvoid · 13/05/2019 16:41

6, 7 and 9. They drink water or squash mostly. Sometimes will have a milkshake but not very often, hot chocolate is a treat.

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2019 16:43

My 12 year old drinks tea, milk or water mostly. He's allowed one 'other' drink a day which depends on what is around - juice, elderflower presse, fizzy mango.
In a cafe he'd normally choose a chai latte, milkshake or earl grey tea. He's free to choose anything he wants though.

MaMisled · 13/05/2019 16:44

Mine are 20,22, 25.....mostly Jack Daniels from what I can make out!

Itsagrandoldteam · 13/05/2019 16:49

I've got a 15 year old who drinks more milk than anything else. He does drink a fair amount of water too. He would drink a lot of coke if we didn't ration it.
Breakfast - glass of milk
Lunch - bottle of water
After school - glass of milk
Dinner - glass of orange juice and a glass of milk
Before bed - more milk
water in between

LoafofSellotape · 13/05/2019 16:50

Mine are teens. At home they drink water, fresh juice or a cup of tea. When out they would probably have a J2O or fizzy drinks, or a tea/ hot chocolate depending on what kind of occasion it was.

sugarbum · 13/05/2019 16:54

12 and 9. The older one is happy with water. The younger prefers squash. They both would have diet coke if they were offered it, but that doesn't happen all that often!

ShesABelter · 13/05/2019 16:54

14 year old will drink anything. 9 year old prefers water.

Ces6 · 13/05/2019 16:54

Water and sometimes fruit juice.

Oh for goodness sake - talk about petty - why??

Either answer the fucking OP or leave.

DS6 mainly milk, one squash a day plus water. Has developed a taste for fanta though so might have that when out for a treat.
DSS14 nothing or when pushed will have squash and expects fizzy drinks at the weekend. Can normally get him to drink a tea if he's cold or some fresh orange when he finally makes it out of bed. Apparently tap water is mingin and only drinks evian at his mums Hmm Grin

ChiaraRimini · 13/05/2019 17:57

Plain water
Tea/coffee first thing in the morning.
Fresh orange at breakfast
I don't buy squash or fizzy drinks.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 13/05/2019 18:00

I'm kins of relieved the milk thing was normal at older ages.

I wasn’t aware there was an age limit on drinking milk.

chipsandgin · 13/05/2019 18:02

Water mainly, sometimes fresh lime & soda, the 15 year old has just started drinking coffee in the morning, sometimes juice, milk, occasional cider with a meal, occasional coke when out with friends. I also make nutribullet juices in the mornings when I’m being organised!

agnurse · 13/05/2019 18:02

Ours drinks milk, water, and tea. We don't normally have juice or squash in the house except occasionally.

Milk is absolutely recommended for adolescents and actually they need more milk than young children. The body only lays down fresh calcium matrix in the bones until about age 25. Now, after that you still need calcium, but you can only maintain what you already have - you can't put down any extra. This is why it's so important that children and teens get enough calcium - a poor calcium matrix can predispose them to developing osteoporosis in older age. It's not just the girls, either. Men can and do develop osteoporosis. Incidentally, this is also why the physical activity recommendations are higher for children. Assuming the bones are healthy, the more stress that is put on them, the denser they will become. Physical activity can help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life.

Ragwort · 13/05/2019 18:02

When DS was 14 he would like appeltiser/coke/J20 if we were out or for a special occasion. Sometimes had a homemade smoothie but not too keen on plain milk, quite liked Nesquick. Actually he would the odd half a lager if drinking with us at home Blush.

formerbabe · 13/05/2019 18:02

My eldest is 11...only milk and water at home. Occasionally a juice if we're out. My dc don't like squash or fizzy drinks.

dementedpixie · 13/05/2019 18:04

Ds - water, squash, flavoured water, diet coke at the weekend
Dd - squash, flavoured water, yazoo strawberry milk, fresh orange with lemonade at the weekend

BertieBotts · 13/05/2019 18:04

10yo, squash though would drink coke all day every day if he had the choice.

I drink the most milk in our house apart from the baby.

WhatHaveIFound · 13/05/2019 18:07

DD (17) - water, apple juice, smoothie, occasionally lemonade
DS (14) - water, very occasionally milk/chocolate milk

FudgeBrownie2019 · 13/05/2019 18:08

Squash, fruit juice, water, milk, those Dr Moo milkshakes if DH is demented enough to buy them when he's shopping.

They both drink water, too, and lots of it as they're both quite sporty.

justasking111 · 13/05/2019 18:12

Until age 17 drank fruit juice with breakfast, water at school and water or squash in the evening. One bottle of pop a week if I remembered. He went to work in a restaurant got friendly with the barista and is now a coffee snob Smile
