To eat curry takeaway, or any takeaway actually, directly from the boxes and bags rather than putting it in bowls and on plates?
The point of take away is no hassle and washing dishes is a hassle imho😁 Once I attempted to eat the curry just with the naan so I wouldn't make a spoon dirty. That's how lazy I can be.
Plus whatever is left over will just get the original lid popped back on and put in a fridge. Simple.

Apparently I am "uncivilised" and should put it on normal crockery.

No need for shame!
I don’t do it as I like to be able to get a little bit of everything on my fork, also chutney etc

fizzybubblepop · 13/05/2019 15:02

Absolutely not! What's the point of getting a take away if your going to give yourself a load of washing up! Great idea with eating the curry with the naan bread! How did it go? I might try that one!!

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/05/2019 15:04

Ha ha my parents (RIP) used to decant takeaway into china serving dishes and set it all out on the table, with serving spoons and everything Grin

YANBU OP! What's the point of a takeaway if you can't eat it with your hands to save on washing up?

Buscake · 13/05/2019 15:04

Soz you are uncivilised! Grin

It’s got to be put on plates - esp curry!

user1493413286 · 13/05/2019 15:06

I do that with most takeaways other than curry as I like it with the rice on the plate

Teacakeandalatte · 13/05/2019 15:08

Yeah I like to keep washing up to a minimum but I can manage a plate and fork.

IAmTheChosenOne · 13/05/2019 15:09

How do you mix eg curry and rice in one container? It would spill

I would agree that pizza from the box is most appropriate

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 13/05/2019 15:19

@fizzybubblepop too much sauce peft over so I had to get a spoon in the end☹️

How do you mix eg curry and rice in one container? It would spill
I put rice on the spoon and then it goes into the curry box for a nice dip. Or I put few spoons of rice in one part of the sauce. Kind of mix it.

Tbh I don't usually have rice with curry. Just naanBlush

I do this. GrinGrin

Whatnotea · 13/05/2019 15:32

Only if you have it for breakfast!

Rice with curry?
You must be southern.

GreytExpectations · 13/05/2019 15:34

Well, considering that its traditional to eat Indian curry with your naan/chapati bread using your hands its not really that inventive of an idea...

Nothing wrong with eating out the boxes though

GarnierBBCream · 13/05/2019 15:34

Of course YANBU

FurrySlipperBoots · 13/05/2019 15:35

The whole point of a takeaway is to save time and effort (ie, no laying the table, doing the washing up, loading the dishwasher etc). My mum insists we all have plates and cutlery for takeaway chips. I mean, why?!

recrudescence · 13/05/2019 15:36

I actually think that is pretty lazy - you are saving on a tiny amount of washing up.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 13/05/2019 15:36

@GreytExpectations it's not. 😁 But I guess curries here have way more sauce than there.

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 13/05/2019 15:37

I genuinely don't enjoy a takeaway as much if it's served on plates / with cutlery.

LilQueenie · 13/05/2019 15:37

When it comes to takeaways I've been known to sit an unclean plate on my lap just to stop the sauces dripping out the boxes on to me. It always tastes better eaten from the box.

GreytExpectations · 13/05/2019 15:38

Rice has been served with Indian curry for a loooong time. Goes way back to the ancient times in India. Sorry I'm not trying to be goady, I just don't understand why this is questioned when its the traditional way of eating that culture's food? It's like someone asking why they would have chips with their fish n chips Confused

GreytExpectations · 13/05/2019 15:42

it's not. 😁 But I guess curries here have way more sauce than there.

It's not? Do you mean it's not inventive or its not traditional?

Also, sorry but laughing at your "over there" comment. Curries vary form region to region. Indian is a huge country- some are more sauce based and some of more dry.

Still18atheart · 13/05/2019 15:47

I had a takeaway pizza straight from there whilst camping- so not exactly an environment where you want to do any extra washing up. When I told my dm what I’d done she looked at me as though I had two heads. I reasoned that I wouldn’t have been able to heat the plate up (plastic) so cardboard was going to keep the food warmer for longer

Yabbers · 13/05/2019 15:57

😂 yes, I think this is actually understood by pretty much everybody (even in the north) 😂

cookiechomper · 13/05/2019 15:57

I eat all takeaway straight from the container, except curry. That needs to go on a plate. I'm surprised at the person that didn't know curry goes with rice...

Eliza9919 · 13/05/2019 15:59

Plates and knives & forks must be used in my house for Chinese & Indian. And we usually use forks with kebabs.

How can you have a bit of everything otherwise? Without double dipping all the tubs?

Eliza9919 · 13/05/2019 15:59

Double dipping is fine if its just me & DP, but not when there are loads of us.
