to expect NCT classes to meet after bl**dy work?

I can't believe it. I've waited ages for them to get back to me and now they say it's 3 sessions. One 8pm til 10pm and 2 x 10am-4pm. How the hell do they expect my husband and I to manage that before I start maternity leave??????

Very sorry everyone. Hormonal pregnant angst coupled with disappointment.

I don't know anyone locally with children. I was hoping to make friends with other mums and now I won't be able to.

The thing is, whoever organises your NCT classes locally will already know that weekday courses are not ideal. But they will be offering the courses they can get teachers and spaces for! Nobody is thinking 'oh, we won't do weekend classes, just to annoy pregnant people'.

I organise NCT classes in my area - they're all two-day courses, normally a Saturday and the following Friday, so only one work day rather than two. I know that two weekend days would be better, but I offer the classes my teachers are willing to do! If one of my teachers said, i want to teach buck naked, covered in woad, in a local park, at 3am, I'd try offering it, and see what the takeup was!

I probably would ask some questions first ... you know ... will you bring the woad, or do they need to bring their own? That sort of thing.

Update from NCT

sadly unable to offer naked classes at 3am.

They have just lost one teacher, one is on maternity leave and the other is struggling to cover the whole area.

They have given me details for the next town and I will try there.

Obviously with my rational head on I realise that they don't try to annoy pg women and do try their best.

I didn't do NCT classes precisely because of this. They were in the middle of the day - we were both working - the woman was incredibly snotty about it on the phone and I just thought 'Oh piss off then!'. I did my local hospital classes instead and they were great.

WhenI booked in there were a wide range of options from intensive weekend courses to evenings spread over a fortnight - was the option you are looking at the only one they are offering?

MadamePlatypus · 26/07/2007 14:06

That seems really odd - we had 2 x 10am-4pm at weekends and then one 8 till 10pm session with BF counsellor. People who could do week days did shorter sessions over more days.

I wouldn't worry too much about meeting people - you can always do the postnatal classes. I didn't do them but know people who did the postnatal classes through some of my pre-natal class friends, and I got the impression that they could be more sociable because by that point you actually have the baby and have more in common.

I found this incerdibly funny and would seriously consider teaching naked in park at 3 am covered in woad.
I can see as a mum and teacher both sides of this thread. My colleague was booked up to teach and I pleaded with her to put on another class as we are oversubscribed by 75%. The only free day was friday . Would you believe this classed filled in less than 10 days!
I enjoy classes so much that I have decided to teach twins classes as well in the autumn and currently have available places in reading!
I am off now to pack for expected wet holiday in wales with dh, dd, and ds who fondly embraced me as I have received news of my degree at an advanced age.
Any mumnetters got ideas for wet week in New Quay?

This might not help with meeting people locally but I was given a flyer yesterday at a maternity shop for weekend antenatal getaways see www.goodbirthgetaway.co.uk
