To ask if anyone here had a positive outcome from high number miscarriages?

I've had 6 miscarriages now and am finding hope dwindling with each one.

I've never actually met anyone (that I know of) who's had more than 3 in a row.

Has anyone else had such a high number of miscarriages and then gone on to have a positive outcome?

I know the cause, and there is no treatment, just told to carry on trying.

I feel like the higher my number gets the less chance I have.

The odds reset every cycle I'm afraid, but also that is a good thing.

Do you have a depletion syndrome or something else? How early are your miscarriages? After 6 they should be offering IVF and chromosonal testing of embryos before transfer as a solution to make sure only unaffected embryos are transferred.

I've only had 3 but I wanted to send heartfelt best wishes to you. They really take their toll. Flowers

Is enrolling in any ongoing research studies possible / of interest to you?

TrumpsFerret · 12/05/2019 21:07

I know someone who had 5 and has 2 small children now. I know they had help though as it was a genetic issue. I'm sorry that you are going through this - I just hope it will all work for you.

Thank you, and sorry I don't mean to imply that three isn't a lot. It's too much for anyone, I would wish one on my worst enemy.

I have a chromosomal abnormality. I have not been offered IVF (as of yet) although my partner has children already so I don't think we'd qualify Sad

Have you been tested for anything yet? 6 miscarriages could be the sign of a deeper problem - hypothyroidism, clotting disorder, PCOS, chromosome or genetic issues, can all cause miscarriages. A lot of them can be treated too if you get referred to the right people (usually a fertility clinic to start with).

I had approx 5 (1 not sure because of time/getting to hospital etc), but what is the condition that they’ve identified? Mine took a lot of investigation before being able to actually carry a pregnancy to term. There were so many because they weren’t looked into, but it was eventually manageable, as it turned out.

Whyisitsodifficult · 12/05/2019 21:12

Yep I’ve had six but had a healthy child after. I don’t know whether it was a coincidence but the only change I made was low dose aspirin. Good luck I know how much it hurts.

Ohkayyy · 12/05/2019 21:12

It's a translocation. It is not medically manageable.

It's possible, but it just seems to be less and less comforting each time.

OP sadly the options will be just keep trying or somehow find the money to do ivf with embryo testing :( it's the only way you can guarantee embryos aren't affected.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 12/05/2019 21:13

I had 5 before having DD. I had 2 further after having her and as I was then 42 we threw in the towel.

I was checked out by my local hospital after 3, and after 5 I got myself refereed as a private patient to Prof Regan’s clinic at St Mary’s. There never actually found anything wrong but they prescribed progestone and I had acupuncture as well. DD is now 9.

Also get your antithyroid antibodies checked and tsh as even if you were getting a few good eggs they might not stick if you have antithyroid antibodies uncontrolled or tsh higher than 2.5 :(

SunnySideDownUp · 12/05/2019 21:15

Sorry for your losses.

I've had 4 mc, and have 2 dd now.

Olivetree615 · 12/05/2019 21:17

Just wanted to add in, my mother had 6 before going on to have myself and my sister; sending you love! Flowers

MontStMichel · 12/05/2019 21:18

I had 4 miscarriages around 12 weeks, and lost 3 pregnancies around 5 - 6 weeks (with experience I knew when I was pregnant within 48 hours). It turned out I had Asherman’s syndrome, probably from the first ERPC. I had surgery to divide the adhesion, had IVF to try and stop anything else going wrong and had twins first time.

I knew another mum who had had 6 miscarriages; she had a zinc deficiency and after she started on zinc tablets, went on to carry a baby to term!

I went for psychotherapy after the 4th miscarriage. My psychotherapist had had 6 miscarriages and went on to have a baby.

mummumumumumumum · 12/05/2019 21:20

My mum had 2 miscarriages after me, had 2 full term pregnancies then had 6 miscarriages before getting pregnant with my youngest brother.

theWarOnPeace · 12/05/2019 21:24

It's a translocation. It is not medically manageable.

Ok that makes it particularly hard on you as some doctors tend to say just keep trying, without really being able to actively help. My friend had/has this but they went for I think PGS and IVF and did again for their subsequent children, it was very successful and certainly for them was worth every penny.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 12/05/2019 21:24

I had 1 before DC1 and then 3 after plus an ectopic - we ll keep trying but I don't feel any hope when I get a BFP - plus I've found my family are less compassionate the more I have so there is less and less emotional support to keep me going x

RhubarbIsEvil · 12/05/2019 21:25

I knew someone who had 9. She now has 3 Dcs.

Decormad38 · 12/05/2019 21:30

4 mc and 2 healthy girls.

Bumbers · 12/05/2019 21:39

My heart goes out to you. I have had multiple losses and my DH has a translocation.

Have you had tests to check that the losses are caused by the translocation? Ours have not all been.

I would also look into Guys hospital in London - I am not sure if what the rules are for PGD on the NHS, but I think they also do private.

Wishing you all the luck in the world.

Teddybear45 · 12/05/2019 21:55

Do you know if the losses are definitely caused by the translocation? Before I went private to a fertility clinic I was told my PCOS was the problem and in my first NHS cycle they blamed that for poor egg quality. After further testing (only offered after 3 transfers failed) the actual problem was found.

Really strongly suggest going private before you try again and ask about PGD / PGS - some clinics even offer it for free as part of a package (either through Access or outside of it) if you have a genetic issue.

small2018 · 12/05/2019 22:17

My friend had 5 in a row then had her DS after seeing a specialist and taking certain meds. She blogged about it to help others, have a read:

silvercuckoo · 12/05/2019 22:38

I know it sounds bad, but I don't know how many I have had, definitely more than 5 as that was when I stopped counting. 2 healthy DC now, one after another.
