Anyone following the drama? Seen comments on twitter but not sat through bye sister yet

I don't think it'll change anything long term, he's followed by impressionable teenagers who won't see what the issue really is.

I vaguely remembered the Ebola scandal and that got brushed under the carpet but the same kind of racist scandals have occurred with Jeffree Star and it has not made one bit of difference to his fame now. Unfortunately the target audience means they can get away with a lot.

OvaHere · 12/05/2019 13:58

I started the the thread in Feminism Chat for the reasons Outanabout stated.

Tbh I was only vaguely aware of JC at the beginning of this weekend but quickly found myself down a rabbit hole following the story. Grin

I agree that he will probably make a comeback and ride it out once the dust settles due to having a lot of very young followers.

It won't last forever though, the plummet to obscurity will come when he ages out of his target market unless he's very smart (not a lot of evidence of that so far).

Reminds me of Onision, one of the original Youtubers beloved for a while by tweens. He was beset by various scandals but what really did him in was becoming a middle aged dude that kids couldn't relate to and he never worked out how to grow up and adapt.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 12/05/2019 14:01

I have watched bye sister it’s a real eye opener this all started because he advertised someone else hair vitamins and didn’t tell his friend/youTuber what he was doing and it upset her especially after he kept telling her that he couldn’t advertise hers and that he didn’t like the ones that he ended up advertising he’s also had a lot of help off her husband with contracts think she feels a bit stabbed in the back and I would feel the same if someone did that to me.

leftovercoffeecake · 12/05/2019 14:09

I think although he's still going to have a lot of young, impressionable fans supporting him, his reputation will never be the same.

Quite a few big celebrities/YouTubers have unfollowed him because of the scandal... Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Demi Lovato, Shane Dawson, etc.

Also, I think brands are going to be very wary about working with him, which could hit hard. I know lots of people are tweeting Morphe, asking if they're going to separate from James and lots of people are returning their palettes to stores.

Moominfan · 12/05/2019 14:14

So has this come out because of vitamins? Very new to the Make up world. I follow jeffree star and wasn't aware of racism scandal. Love Jackie aina. Waiting on their responses Confused

Moominfan have you watched Tati's video "Bye Sister"? That really explains it all, especially how much she and her husband helped James Charles and she said she accepted it when JC declined to help promote her vitamin business due to the young age of his fanbase, but hten made up an excuse to promote her chief rival vitamin company.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/05/2019 14:31

Upshot is the drama is about a young man whose let fame go to his head.

Being rude to his fans, fleecing then for money, thinking he can behave inappropriately to straight men - just because he's famous.

Nothing new there and tbh he was getting away with it until he shat on his own doorstep by promoting a rival product (and lying about how it came about allegedly) to the much bigger youtuber who had been hugely supportive/influential in his career and business.

She's washed her hands of him publicly at it sounds like a lot of his followers are doing the same.

However, in a few weeks there will be a new drama and it will sadly all go away (as long as He keeps his mouth shut and lies low for a bit).

Awrite · 12/05/2019 14:40

My dd sat me down yesterday morning and told me all about it.

He is endorsing his mentor's competition. After stating that he couldn't endorse her product as he morally objected to vitamins.

She's firmly on the mentor's side and happy that he has lost subscribers. This is after idolising him for ages.

She also said that he's known for bragging about turning straight men gay.

She's 13. What a world we live in.

munchies87 · 12/05/2019 14:43

The posts about him being inappropriate towards a boy/man because he thought he was BI is made up, the girl has admitted to it and she made a fake conversation with a fake account lookin like she was talking to him when she wasn't, not sure why she did that or what she thought she'd gain

CustardySergeant · 12/05/2019 14:46

The rapid change in subscriber numbers is astonishing

Lurkeycakewoman · 12/05/2019 14:48

My dd dragged me into the world of makeup influencers last year and James Charles was one of them.
I've been reading this all weekend he was losing subscribers as early as last Monday tati was just the straw the broke the camels back so to say.
Shane dawson and ryland warned him in a video last year hes fancy to straight men would get him in trouble

Tiscold · 12/05/2019 14:50

Numerous reasons really, I'll try explain.

  1. His friend tati and her husband basically helped build his career. She promoted him on her channel, her husband negotiated a large numbers of contracts for him, she promoted his products to her fans and basically is the reason he got so many fans so quickly.

He then repays the favour by not only saying he doesn't want to promote her stuff as it's irresponsible to promote vitiman products to young kids, he then promoted her rivals vitiman product on his channel. So stabbed his mate in the back for a quick bit of cash after all she had done.

2 sexually harassed men. He prayed on bi curious guys and did lots of things for them, got them tickets to places but when they realised they didn't want to go through with having sex, or had it but decided it wasn't for them, he threated them and how he was going to ruin them and get his fans on them.

He also acted sexually to a bunch of straight men and made them uncomfortable, he kept touching his waiter and stuff even after being asked not too.

  1. Charged over 500 quid for meet and greet tickets, well above the standardrate and didn't provide an acceptable service at all.
  1. Was just generally a dick to people. Tati had to apologise to her friends and family after he got so drunk at her party he started shouting and chucking stuff at people. He has been known to be rude and sees himself as better then everyone around him, so has drove loads of his friends away.

And unfortunately for him, he has lost the most subscriber's on his challenge in 24 hours in the whole history of youtube. A load of what were his friends have unfollowed him and said they will not endorse his products or support his business anymore, meaning he has lost a lot of business and contracts

Tiscold · 12/05/2019 14:52

@munchies87. Multiple men have come forward saying this. Even tati has said she had heard about it and seen how irresponsible snd creepy he has been to guys who refused his advances.

napalmskies · 12/05/2019 14:53

He uses his celebrity status in order to manipulate straight men into doing sexual favours.

If they don’t comply he does things to ruin them - make brands not work with them, remove their social media etc

napalmskies · 12/05/2019 14:56

Tati had to apologise to her friends and family after he got so drunk at her party he started shouting and chucking stuff at people.

Huh? I’m not sure that happened.

He went to her birthday party and said sexually explicit things about a waiter and when told he was straight he said so what I’m a celebrity.

She then apologised to her family and friends the day after.

munchies87 · 12/05/2019 14:56

I find the whole thing quite confusing tbh!

HerondaleDucks · 12/05/2019 14:58

I watched the full Tati video this morning and it was very honest and heart felt. I always knew there was something money grabbing about JC.
I think he uses the excuse that it's ok for him to sexually harass straight men because he's a celebrity or something to that effect.

PookieDo · 12/05/2019 14:59

He makes himself look a victim when he doesn’t get what he wants by using his platform to shame men
Ie he ends up saying he feels used when they won’t give in after he gives them free tickets and trips
This is why people warned him not to do it because it’s not morally ok

napalmskies · 12/05/2019 15:01

Nothing new there and tbh he was getting away with it until he shat on his own doorstep by promoting a rival product (and lying about how it came about allegedly) to the much bigger youtuber who had been hugely supportive/influential in his career and business.

Tati is not a bigger YouTuber at all.

Tiscold · 12/05/2019 15:07

@napalmskies. I read it on reddit somewhere so apologies if not true.

But god, he still is a fucking creep that doesn't deserve 1 subscriber let alone the millions he has and is hopefully losing.

Tiscold · 12/05/2019 15:08

@napalmskies. She has over 8 million subscribers which i would class as big.

And she literally made his career as well

PinguDance · 12/05/2019 15:08

Omg Tati has denounced James? Must be bad. He came to her wedding and everything. Tati does kind of like drama tho, she’s just a bit less obvious about it.

BarbedBloom · 12/05/2019 15:08

I cannot stand Tati but good on her for calling him out.

PinguDance · 12/05/2019 15:11

I think Tati is overstating her influence in James Charles’ career tbh, it always seemed to me like they were equally using each other.

Moominfan · 12/05/2019 15:12

Just watched the video, there's sooo many follow up vids. Make up world is shady.
