I stole a cat.

A local cat.
For the last year he's got progressively worse.
Rspca called. Came 3 times. Twice cat wasn't about. Once cat was about but owner wasn't. They were absolutely useless.

Called local rescue. They agreed cat was in a state but had no legal ground to remove him.
Scanned him. No chip.

Knocked on owners door and they refused to sign him over.

Rescue staff tried again. We're very upset.

2 months passes again.

I see cat. He is absolutely SKIN AND Bones. Covered in fleas. Weeping eyes. Heaving breathing.

He followed me home and I fed him.

I take photos and call a local rescue. They see the state of him and come immediately.

They scan him. Still no chip.

I lie and say I don't know who he belongs to.

They take him. It's been 2 weeks now.

They've sent me photos. He's been vert treated. In a Foster. Flea treated. Gaining weight.

Neighbours haven't put up posters or seem bothered.

You didn't steal anything. You saved a cat from neglect. My DP did the same.

SecretNutellaFix · 10/05/2019 17:07

I'm so glad Ghost has a chance of a happy life now. Well done.

Cattucino · 10/05/2019 17:12

You didn't steal her, you rescued her Flowers

Timeistickingaway · 10/05/2019 17:12

I had neighbours like this. One of the cats was taken home by a nearby business. The other car was run over. They were completely negligent and left the cats all day and night, and fed them rubbish

Wheresthebeach · 10/05/2019 17:12

He's gorgeous! You absolutely did the right thing.

Magnificentbeast · 10/05/2019 17:14

Well done OP. You've saved him from a very wretched time. Poor thing.
I hope he finds a loving human to take him in.

Tinkobell · 10/05/2019 17:14

Nice work OP! I did the very same thing a few years back and never flinched. The cat would have died in weeks if no action was taken. The cat will be loved, cared for and valued elsewhere. They kind of give up on caring for grooming themselves if they're neglected, it's terribly depressing. Feel chuffed!

Lweji · 10/05/2019 17:16

You should ask MNHQ to change your thread title to rescued instead of stole.

Well done.

Pugwash1 · 10/05/2019 17:16

You are amazing. Well done you. Go to bed proud and smiling thinking of the wonderful future this little guy has thanks to you.

Tinkobell · 10/05/2019 17:17

That cat looked in a bad way OP. They probably hung on to it because it caught the odd mouse or rat, that's all - not because they care for it.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2019 17:17

Posts like this make me hate humans so much

How could people DO that Sad

You did the right thing and Ghost is a beautiful animal ThanksThanksThanks

Butterymuffin · 10/05/2019 17:17

You hero. The 'owners' are the wrong doers. Ghost is gorgeous. Hope he is adopted soon!

FoxSquadKitten · 10/05/2019 17:20

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Jaxhog · 10/05/2019 17:21

Well done. Probably best you don't adopt him, as the CF previous owners might snatch him back.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/05/2019 17:22

You absolute Star!

More people should have the courage to do this.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/05/2019 17:23

100% the right thing to do (but I think you should delete the post with his picture as he is quite identifiable, not being a bog standard tabby)

No! God bless you, that will be one very grateful cat.

MensWithVens · 10/05/2019 17:35

Jelly.
This cat was bones. And wofed down food like it had never been fed.

He was crawling with fleas (and worms we since found out)

They found no underlying issues and with regular food and flea/worming treatment he is already gaining weight.

No the same situation.
