My neighbour is painting my garden wall!

Just looked out of the window to see my neighbour from two doors down painting my front garden wall! AIBU to think this is really weird? (Albeit probably done with the best of intentions...)

I live in a terraced Victorian house with a white painted front garden wall at the front. For what it's worth, I take care of the appearance of my house at the front with window boxes and plant pots, get windows cleaned, and had the wall and my window sills etc. re-painted 3 years ago so they are not exactly looking terrible. The paint has worn down a bit in the rain and London pollution but compared to some houses on the street was looking just fine.

This neighbour is generally obsessed with the appearance of our bit of the street - often sweeping the pavement, putting everyone's bins back into front gardens etc.

But surely you knock first before starting to paint a wall that doesn't belong to you?!

I’d pay for a neighbour like that.

I'd love to have a neighbour like that.

I wouldn’t let a neighbor do anything to my property.

Ditto!

I would be out there like a shot asking what the hell he thought he was doing. There is no way I would tolerate this.

He is taking away your control, your choice of whether you want to change colour etc. I'd probably wait until it was dry and then go and paint it again in stripes of orange, shocking pink and purple and paint lime green flowers on it freehand to pee him off. A day later I'd make sure he was in and then stand outside his wall with my paint cans. Grin

You should worry! When I was younger I went on holiday with my parents to a rented cottage. During the week we were at the cottage, my father painted the fence, the front door and the garden furniture! God knows what the owners thought when they next came Blush

I'd go and offer him a brew and thank him for helping you out and keeping the street clean etc. Sounds like he works hard for his street and really takes pride in it. Maybe ask him if there is anything you can do to help.
