I’m starting my first ‘proper’ job out of uni soon and the company will be paying for further professional qualifications so I’ll be locked in for 3 years after them. Pretty standard, but it has made me wonder how often people tend to change companies.

People my age haven’t really moved around much yet and my parents/their friends seemed to stay with the same employer for decades!

I'm 35, first job was 7 years but 4 roles from advisor to team manager.

this job 12 years with 7 roles each progressively more senior. If a progression opportunity doesnt become available within the next 18 months I'll look externally, if it does I'll stay with this company.

7 years and I’m 32, job before that 5 years

I'm in my 25th year at the same company. Started at the bottom and worked my way up over the years. Now at the top of the tree for my role with a fab team around me and love what I do. 47 this year and expect I will be here until I retire.

14 years, but I have worked in the same industry since leaving school, so 20 years working either training or in the same job.

12 and a half years. It was a temp job when I moved to a new city and I’m still there (was only a temp for a few months before getting made permanent). Many of my colleagues did the same. It’s not a career that anyone says “I really want to do that for the rest of my life!” But it’s generally a decent company to work for, so people end up staying.
