DH booked spa hotel for us & our 2 dogs

WWUD, DH said leave it to him to book a breakaway next month, we have 2 dogs and have stayed in hotels with them for the odd night but it’s not really great due to not being able to just let them out and quite restricted being in basically one room.
So he rang and said he had booked a 4 night breakaway and just said on the coast in uk, when I asked if it had an enclosed garden (thinking it was a holiday cottage) he wouldn’t say.
I know I shouldn’t have but I had a look at his emails (wrong I know and he would be annoyed if he knew I had looked).
Anyway it’s a lovely spa hotel right by the beach but I just feel it will be alot of a hassle each time the dogs want to go out to put them on their leads and walk them to where ever is suitable for them to go to the loo etc and I’m pretty sure dogs are not allowed in most of the hotel, the dog friendly rooms are in the ‘courtyard’. AIBU to think he’s not really thought about it? Should I just go and make the most of it instead of sounding ungrateful??

Can you not leave the dogs behind and make the most of the hotel?

flowery · 09/05/2019 22:36

When you agreed to go away did you not discuss this issue then?

Youtoldme · 09/05/2019 22:37

No wouldn’t leave the dogs at home, love taking them on holiday with us

It’ll be lovely. How often do your dogs need to go out?

DP does first thing pee break. Then breakfast & a walk on the beach to tire them out, head to spa. Someone takes em for a pee in the pm at lunchtime, another long walk later pre dinner, and a quick pee break before bed. Sounds fine to me!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/05/2019 22:37

Confused is a boarding kennel or pet sitter not an option?

dalmatianmad · 09/05/2019 22:37

Can the dogs stay with family? Or a home boarder?

Youtoldme · 09/05/2019 22:38

Just presumed he would have booked a cottage, like we always do unless it’s just for an odd night

Maybe he fancies a change?

My idea of a perfect weekend away ❤️ Spa & doggies together

Enix · 09/05/2019 22:41

I think your partner is being thoughtful having booked a coastal spa hotel - it's something different, relaxing and you really shouldn't have looked as that's a bit dishonest and kind of shitting on his intentions, especially if you complain about his booking. I'd just go and take the dogs as you want to take them with you. It is suitable for dogs as you said (even if it's a room in the courtyard) and you can take them for walks along the beach.

If you wanted a cottage as per usual, you sort the break away next time.

GCAcademic · 09/05/2019 22:42

This would stress me out as well. The dogs will get all wet and sandy from the beach too. Nightmare in a hotel room.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 09/05/2019 22:42

Sorry, I think YABU.

Youtoldme · 09/05/2019 22:45

Thanks for your replies, I realise that I shouldn’t have looked, I will go and have a great time. Thanks for the advice

They can probably wee in the courtyard.

SarahAndQuack · 09/05/2019 22:59

Are you sure it's not a dog-friendly hotel?

My DD's godmother gave us the most amazing holiday in a spa hotel when we had a newborn and she was heavily pregnant. The hotel was dog-friendly and they had people who walked her dog each day and did doggy daycare. It was amazing and really relaxing and lovely (plus we got to enjoy the relaxation of the hotel together with dog snuggles, which is the best of both).

JaneEyre07 · 09/05/2019 23:04

We did this a few years ago OP, it wasn't remotely relaxing. Dogs weren't allowed in the main part of the hotel including the restaurant but you weren't allowed to leave them unattended in your room either so fuck knows what they expected you to do with them Hmm. If they get wet or sandy it's a nightmare, and trying to keep them off the beds wasn't fun either. Dealing with their food and bowls without a kitchen wasn't easy ..... as was darting out for a wee in the morning and having to get dressed to do so.

Never again.

Hollowvictory · 09/05/2019 23:07

Lol, that you would expect dogs to be allowed in a hotel restaurant 😂😂

RSAcre · 09/05/2019 23:08

Nah. Just take every dog towel you own - of not enoughm buy some cheap ones (or buy nice expensive ones for humans, but swap down some of your older current human ones?) & cover the hotel room carpet in them.
Bring giant fleece blankets to put over the bed, unless you know your dogs won't bed-jump.

I bet you will all have a lovely time, & all that's awry is a bit of 'fear of the unknown'. Once you are there & can scope out the courtyard set-up & know how long it takes to get out to a wee-spot, you'll be laughing.

xx

This is my idea of heaven!! Spa plus doggies. Perhaps a long exhausting beach walk and swim for the hounds in the morning then leave them to sleep whilst you spa? Hope it’s better than you expect and you all have a fabulous time.

BlackCatSleeping · 09/05/2019 23:09

I was also thinking that the courtyard sounds like it must be dog-friendly.

Hopefully you will have a great time.

StateofIndependance · 09/05/2019 23:09

Dogs are allowed in loads of hotel restaurants!

ineedaholidaynow · 09/05/2019 23:11

Hollow many places where you eat let dogs in now, they certainly do near where we live.

Passtherioja · 09/05/2019 23:12

I'm glad you're going to go ahead and enjoy the break. I guess if you take the doggy family on holiday you just have to juggle their care with your fun.

LizzieSiddal · 09/05/2019 23:15

We went to a posh hotel by the sea recently. There were dogs in the restaurant, so some do allow it.
It put me off ever going again as they the dogs wet and stank. Quite off putting when you’re trying to eat your breakfast.Hmm
