or is it more sinister than that. Is this just a hatred of women/of females.

Of course they know, and I think it's done out of spite (because who cares about women) and narcissm (because they want to be on top of a podium and don't care how they get there).

They know that they are not competing fairly. They do it anyway because they want to. That's called bullying.

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 15:35

I also think there is an element of vanity and validation - look at me, I must be a woman because I competed against women and when they beat women it's affirmation of how much better they are at being a woman than all those poor substitutes for women who are women by virtue of their sex.

CurbsideProphet · 09/05/2019 15:36

We had diversity training at work and the trainer kept swapping between "sex" and "gender". It seems that for certain sections of society how you feel cancels out biology. I feel like a woman, therefore I must be one.

I imagine there are men who think "I'm not quite good enough to compete against male athletes... but because I want to win I'll put some lipstick on and compete against women instead" .

DuMondeB · 09/05/2019 15:38

YANVU to post this here and not in FWR which is clearly the place where anyone who wants to engage with this endless subject will be

Do you think so? Only, if you are a not-particularly-political mum with a sporty daughter, who just lost her place on the uni ladies football team to someone with a male body, would you definitely, instinctively know that the Mumsnet Feminism board is somewhere you could discuss it? Even if you don’t actually use that board?

Or would you be sucking it up and worrying in silence because you’ve seen Martina Navratilova and Sharron Davies getting abused on Twitter and your daughter doesn’t want you to say anything in case you both get the same treatment?

And if we are keeping it tidy and staying in our little areas do we have to keep posts about cheating partners exclusively on Relationships? And all child related stuff on the parenting boards? What about celebrity gossip? Because if we aren’t allowed to post stuff in AIBU that could also go elsewhere, AIBU will end up being nothing but parking threads 🤷‍♀️

JAPAB · 09/05/2019 15:42

Sport is split by sex, not gender. They can believe what they like about themselves but their sex does not change, therefore the want to compete in the sport category not applicable to their sex raises questions as to their motives.

It isn't split that way though is it? Though you might think it ought to be.

If the event is called "men's" and "winen's" then no further motivation is needed than "I am a man/woman so I go here". It is like with anything else. If the sign says "woman" and you are a woman, then that is that. Even if others say "but you are not a woman" or "but they didn't mean your type of woman". They are just being unreasonable.

The above types of thoughts are all that is needed really. Not hatred or contempt for women in general.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2019 15:51

Thank fuck someone is finally talking a bit of sense. Brilliant this MRA has had “her” record and trophies removed.

but they didn’t mean your type of woman

By that I take it you mean a woman with a penis. That would be a man. Or a man, who identifies as a woman ie a transwoman. Not a woman.

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 09/05/2019 15:54

I am not sure its always about hatred of women. I think they just dont give a shit about women at all. All they care about is their ego boost. They want some spot light. They dont care that it damages women as a whole.

Women are acceptable casualties to them.

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 09/05/2019 15:56

Definition of Woman is an adult human female

If you were born male you are not female. Nor will you ever be. To be a woman, you need to be a female.

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 16:01

A man is an adult human male
A women is an adult human female

Your sex determines whether you are a man or a woman not your feelings.

Sport is segregated on sex - men are male, women are female - it's really not that difficult to understand.

Any male who attempts to or chooses to compete against women on the basis of their feelings is treating women with hatred and contempt.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/05/2019 16:02

I'm sick of the 'shouldnt all sports be categorised by height/weight/hair colour'. Never an issue until men wanted to win women's sports,

Abso-fucking-lutely

I'd never really seen gas lighting in action til all the 'toilets have never been sex segregated', 'lets play sports based on how some feels' bollocks started

Thread after with posters making out that sex segregation hasnt been a thing for hundreds of fucking years

Toorahtoorahaye · 09/05/2019 16:04

Why would I post in feminism when there’s already a thread going there and i can reach more women here who aren’t aware of what’s going on? But thanks for your concern.

he obviously loves dangling the ladies along and you all let him ffs!

Do we all let him?

Sweeping generalisation much!

Huskylover1 · 09/05/2019 16:18

I've decided I am going to identify as a Child.

I'm going to enter a Boxing competition, in the age 5-8 category.

I'm not even going to bother training. I can rough up a 5 year old no bother, it's a piece of piss.

And don't you dare suggest I have an advantage. I "feel" like a child, therefore I am one, and to suggest otherwise is a hate crime.

It's not cheating in any way, shape or form.

Hmm
RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 16:21

Yes all this but, but and what abouts drive me mad too.

The system is simple, only one box needs to be ticked and that is the box marked sex, that is the only determinant necessary. Simple, straightforward and not open to interpretation.

PeoplesFrontOfJudith · 09/05/2019 17:03

This is the epitome of disrespect for me. Let’s not ignore the added elephant in the room of race in this particular example as well

To think these men are really just taking the piss out of women?
YouJustDoYou · 10/05/2019 06:38

@Peoples...holy Moses. I think that photo absolutely epitomizes and emphasises to a point they may actually be unable to avoid what people are trying to get across to them about the fact that a male body is a male body and it is GROSSLY unfair to allow a male body to compete on the same level as female bodies. GROSSLY, grossly unfair.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/05/2019 09:42

It's just been reported on Yahoo News that the person has been stripped of the titles. The reporting was very fair and GC views got a good airing. I'm pleased. It made me especially giggle that the ruling was described as 'stunning'.

justarandomtricycle · 14/05/2019 09:55

YANVU to post this here and not in FWR which is clearly the place where anyone who wants to engage with this endless subject will be.

This topic touches on the concept of women itself, that includes women who aren't made to feel very welcome there.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/05/2019 10:14

I don't think most transwomen fell contempt or hatred at all when they compete in womens sports.

However, they are seizing on a sudden advantage they have been given, which is at the expense of sportswomen

It already distorts some womens sports at all levels
and it may soon be that girls and womens sports are no longer for females, unless the top girls and women are prepared to trail in last.

Biology means that those who were mediocre in mens sports can be top class in womens sports

That transwoman in the photo above is probably a very nice person, but irrc they were over 50 years old
and had insufficient talent to be successful when they were a young man ocmpeting against other young men,
but are now able to be the star in a team of young sportswomen aged around 20.

That means a young women athlete was unfairly deprived of that place, so that a mediocre male athlete could be a star.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/05/2019 10:34

However, they are seizing on a sudden advantage they have been given, which is at the expense of sportswomen

It is just so MALE. Women? Who are they other than vessels to fulfil MY needs?

Toorahtoorahaye · 14/05/2019 13:48

Actually, Ludwig already played college basketball as a young man. The rules state you only get one go or something, this was waived in wig’s case to give them a second go at the women’s event. Ludwig took the place of a young woman, very possibly a young woman by that pic. Ludwig might be delightful but I can’t overlook the delusion, selfishness and entitlement they have displayed.

Same with the 60 plus TW (think another ex military man) McGregor in Australia who plays at the highest level of cricket amongst teams of much younger women.
