To think Radio 5 host Danny Baker cannot stay at the BBC?

And the joke isn't even funny. If he wanted to make a jibe at the Royal Family then why not make the animal ginger in reference to Harry's colouring?

But really, that wasn't my point. If concussion or cognitive impairment is in the mix, the point isn't that it's made him racist (more like revealed the racism!).

Why has he exacerbated the situation like this? Grovelling apology was the way to go. Why didn't he?

If I knew him well, I would be advising a GP check-up.

I don’t know why he didn’t make a sincere apology. He came across as an arrogant twat if I’m honest when on his doorstep. Begrudging and annoyed that he’d been sacked.

I think people on here and elsewhere tend to confuse the meaning of "reason" and "excuse". People who are puzzled by what really seems to be quite bizarre conduct and wondering whether it is caused by drink or health problems are not excusing anything, and it's really inappropriate and unhelpful to get aggressive towards them.

Then why, why, why is he being so criminally stupid? He made a racist joke. We live in an 87% white country where people rock up and say it was PC gorn mad when Robertson's Jam finally stopped with the dolls. He could have got away with it pretty easily in our current climate just like Boris Johnson does every time he says something vile.

Instead he compounded it with ridiculous excuses. I understand that he's probably racist, but I don't understand why he's making it so obvious. What is going on?

I'm not a Meghan fan to say the least but this incident has actually opened my eyes as to what she and her son have and will have to put up with in the future. There was nothing about this 'joke' that was funny. It reminds me of the Frankie Boyle 'joke' about Harvey Price. Arrogant white men who think they can say anything.

I don’t think he is. I think he thought he could get away with it because of his age, sex, demographic etc.

But then, of course, sometimes people are stupid for no reason!

So someone posts a racist tweet, he then quite astonishingly does not apologise profusely for doing, he lies about not knowing who the royal baby had been born to and that he didn’t know Meghan was mixed race. And you think it’s unfair for anyone to disagree with people asking whether he’s ill or has been drinking?

So you have never heard of racist slurs on black/mixed raced people being likened to a monkey? I don’t believe you. Stop making excuses for him. His apology ( if you can call it that ) was pathetic and blatantly obvious he wasn’t sorry in the slightest.

Oh, please; the man's a broadcaster for pity's sake. I'm really not the type to think MM's heritage is the only thing that matters, but to suggest someone in his position wasn't aware of it is beyond ludicrous

BTW is anyone running a book on how it'll be before he checks into a "clinic" of some sort? "He was suffering guv, honest" Hmm Though of course he'll be recovered for when his tour starts ...

As I mentioned earlier, this is about job opportunitiy. He tweeted/deleted the pic then apologised and got sacked. His mate chris Evans has done stuff before and eventually leaves to a higher paid job. Jeremy Clarkson also staged a fight that allowed him to go to Amazon Prime. Danny's agent (who gets a percentage) will be working on the new deal. Expect an announcement in a few weeks (or less). Danny will be apologetic but will be looking forward to a new start. The incident got him plenty of publicity. In his world the only thing worse than being talked about is....
