Princess Anne was looking a little chubby around the middle the other day I thought.

IrishGal21 · 09/05/2019 14:52

Someone I know worked close to him in the 80s/90s and said he was a total tw*t....not much has changed. He used to ponce about the studio with his demands. An ignorant, entitled man who doesn't deserve a mansion and salary he gets when other more talented people are struggling.

NoSauce · 09/05/2019 14:52

Grin Stealth

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 14:52

He's either desperate or showing his utter contempt for us and our powers of basic thinking

FaithFrank · 09/05/2019 14:54

The interviewer asked him if he was the only one in the world who didn't know that Meghan had given birth and he repeated that he didn't know!

Thereby demonstrating he is a liar AND a racist AND not sorry about what he did.

PortiaCastis · 09/05/2019 14:54

The Queen's corgi bitch is updogged p'raps that's who he meant

Yes that's it. He figured since the Duke of Edinburgh was caught driving recklessly the other day, it was proof that there was life in the old man yet...

Danny Baker is digging his own career grave by coming out with such pathetic excuses.

Aurignacian · 09/05/2019 14:57

There’s no excuse, the tweet was racist in the extreme and it was right that he was sacked.

It may not have been intentionally racist but that almost makes it worse. His statement, that he didn’t know which royals were the parents is ludicrous and his apology pathetic.

SaveThePangolin · 09/05/2019 14:57

Danny Baker said that when he tweeted that picture he didn't know that the new Royal baby that everyone was talking about was the Sussexes. He just thought it was one of the other royals he said. Hahaha Jeezy! Him and his legal team clearly have utter contempt for the intellligence of people. No way of proving he didn't think that, I suppose, but he's making himself look worse and worse and worse.

Kedgeree · 09/05/2019 14:57

*What do you mean by Meghan’s “so called race”?

I mean most of the ways people use the word "race" are biologically speaking, fucking nonsense and it annoys the hell out of me, but that's probably a diversion we shouldn't follow.*

I'd like to follow the "diversion". What did you mean by "so-called race"? How is it nonsense, biologically speaking? Are you trying to say that mixed race isn't a race? So she's nothing? Confused

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 14:58

Yes I wondered about a corgi. They pernanatly look nine months pregnant surely

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/05/2019 14:59

I believe him that he genuinely didn't think of the racist connotation
Of course, and during all his years in football, as both a fan and a presenter, whenever he saw bananas thrown at John Barnes he genuinely thought it was because the crowd were concerned about Barnsey’s potassium levels. The excuses and ‘bafflement’ on this thread are incredible. ‘He meant it as a class joke’, ‘he must have been off his face’, ‘I think he might be having a sort of breakdown’. Well that, or maybe he’s just an actual racist. Occam’s Razor.

recrudescence · 09/05/2019 15:03

Career-wise there was only one way out of this: abject apology, humble acceptance of punishment, long period of rehabilitation. I’m afraid he’s blown any chance of a comeback by his subsequent comments. Even if he’s not a racist, he is an idiot.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 09/05/2019 15:04

It doesnt make sense.

Earlier he said it was a caricature of class and the circus around the upcoming birth. So how did he manage to know there had been a royal birth, yet filter out which baby had been born? How did he filter out the 9 months of pregnancy news?

And yet suddenly be interested enough now (without having actually seen any headlines or pictures) to tweet.

Hopeygoflightly · 09/05/2019 15:06

In an interview on his doorstep on BBC News just now, Danny Baker said that when he tweeted that picture he didn't know that the new Royal baby that everyone was talking about was the Sussexes. He just thought it was one of the other royals he said. The interviewer asked him if he was the only one in the world who didn't know that Meghan had given birth and he repeated that he didn't know! How bizarre

jesus wept, is he for real? Just hold your paws up Danny and apologise properly for having a sense of humour that belongs in colonial South Africa circa 1920 FFS.

cushioncovers · 09/05/2019 15:06

I'm shocked that he thought it was acceptable to tweet that. 😮. Like others I've sat and thought maybe it was a joke that I just didn't understand but I can't see any other side to it other than it making a reference to Meghans heritage. It's just shocking!

cushioncovers · 09/05/2019 15:07

Exactly king

MauritiusNextTime · 09/05/2019 15:10

'The interviewer asked him if he was the only one in the world who didn't know that Meghan had given birth and he repeated that he didn't know! How bizarre.'

It is bizarre. His racist 'joke' was bad enough but his mockery of the BBC's response seems quite odd. I wonder if he's well, not making excuses for him but it's just not the behaviour of a supposed professional presenter. He seemed manic on his doorstep on the news.

1forAll74 · 09/05/2019 15:11

It is obvious what he was meaning, and thinking about this joke.He should go,I agree.!

He has had supportive comments re this,,but his humour only appeals to like minded people. His doorstep comments to that reporter, were of a couldn't care less attitude, so he is,as he is, not funny,

cushioncovers · 09/05/2019 15:12

Yeah he did seemed to be acting weird when he was on his doorstep. I'm surprised he didn't get a spokesperson to read a prepared statement for him. He's just digging himself deeper by rambling.

NoTheresa · 09/05/2019 15:16

He is an ignorant person who deserves this sacking. With bells on.

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2019 15:17

I haven’t seen anybody the coverage- is he just being a bit odd or “might he be ill” odd?

MauritiusNextTime · 09/05/2019 15:17

'Yeah he did seemed to be acting weird when he was on his doorstep. I'm surprised he didn't get a spokesperson to read a prepared statement for him. He's just digging himself deeper by rambling.'

He was rambling wasn't he. Seemed agitated and totally not grasping the gravity of what he's done. The denial about knowing which baby it was, all so odd.
