He needs to apologise profusely and with conviction, shut up and move to the highlands

What did the Highlands do to deserve that?

SouthWestmom · 09/05/2019 12:15

Sheilagh Fogarty on Twitter tweeting quotes defending him . FGS.

Alsohuman · 09/05/2019 12:16

Yes they have @floribunda, what people are, somewhat illogically, saying is he’s a Labour supporter so can’t be racist. Try telling Margaret Hodge that!

SouthWestmom · 09/05/2019 12:16

Btw

I'm white. I see colour. I just don't treat people differently because if it. But it's bloody obvious dbil is black. Still offer him a cup of tea and a space on the sofa along with white SIL.

KindnessCrusader · 09/05/2019 12:17

What's with the 'racist' all the way through the article? It's not 'racist', Daily Fail, it's racist. Grim.

Springwalk · 09/05/2019 12:18

kalde Good point, I thought there might be a remote mountain with no other human life, where he can spend his time reflecting on his despicable judgement. He is certainly going to find it very hard to find a hiding spot in London for a good long while.

Personally I can not see why he is trying to defend himself, he would have been better advised to have apologised in full and and left it at that [and then packed his bag]

He is a left wing London champagne socialist. Racist and classist is now appears.

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 12:19

I'm afraid that is something you just can't apologise for. There's no coming back from it. It's so depressing to know there are still people around like that in 2019.

HarryDaylight · 09/05/2019 12:20

His fury at being sacked for his vile conduct is bizarre.
On what planet is he living?

MyAuntyBadger · 09/05/2019 12:20

He's always been very arrogant, not sure why anyone's surprised. He's just rent a rant who thinks everyone is wrong and he is right, about everything. Intelligent? Can't say I've ever thought that about him, intelligent people normally have the sense to listen to others.

FictionalCharacter · 09/05/2019 12:22

He's been sacked. Still acting innocent. It was an awful thing to do - absolutely everyone knows what an image like that means.

JacquesHammer · 09/05/2019 12:29

There is categorically no way he didn’t make the connection.

He spoke earlier this year when Millwall were involved in some racism issues on the pitch.

It’s a fairly shit human being to not only be racist but totally unwilling to make any sort of apology for his actions.

Gth1234 · 09/05/2019 12:30

Apparently he can't.

ohwellstartagain · 09/05/2019 12:31

It made me think of being paraded around like performing monkeys, not race.

When I was born my dad said I looked like a baby gorilla he saw on the tele. I'm white.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 09/05/2019 12:32

I listened to him on LBC just now. He said he had no idea (re MM being mixed race, I think), which I find hard to believe, given all the publicity and the fact that he is a journalist as well as a presenter; it is part of his job to be well informed on what is general knowledge. I also think that, even if she was not mixed race (i.e. no racial connotation intended in the tweet as DB says), this would still be very offensive to new parents, whoever they are, about their baby. Being offensive to anyone for whatever reason is never amusing, to my mind.

DreamingofSummer · 09/05/2019 12:32

He made a mistake, deleted the tweet and apologised. Should have been the end of the matter. Over-reaction from the BBC.

DuckWillow · 09/05/2019 12:32

I really like Danny Baker but I am so disappointed in him for this. How can it ever have seemed a fun idea... even if he was drunk.
I don't for one moment buy the idea that he "isn't racist so didn't realise it would be offensive"

Disappointing Danny, very disappointing

floribunda18 · 09/05/2019 12:33

I'm sure he will be now offered a rent a rent spot somewhere in the media.

findingmyfeet12 · 09/05/2019 12:34

DB is well aware that racism like this wouldn't be tolerated at the BBC (despite previous BBC scandals etc).

It's the only reason I don't think he meant a racist slur - he would have known he'd lose his job/career/reputation etc.

He has failed to focus on the impact of the image however. His apology fell far short. That other radio presenter was barely concealing his own prejudices.

NoSauce · 09/05/2019 12:34

He didn’t apologise, not really. Tough shit that he’s been sacked. He has to face the consequences of his actions. Anyone who thinks he shouldn’t have been sacked are as bad as him.

OceanViewSentosa · 09/05/2019 12:34

What gets me about this is when people come out and say it was a mistake, he didn't mean it etc.

He had to open his computer, log in, google images, select and upload then comment on it. All that is not done subconsciously. He didn't accidentally press a key and it ended up on twitter. Its only a mistake or you didn't mean it when you are called out on it or found out.

findingmyfeet12 · 09/05/2019 12:36

When I was born my dad said I looked like a baby gorilla he saw on the tele. I'm white.

With respect, so what?

elkiedee · 09/05/2019 12:36

Like @BertrandRussell, I do feel shocked because it seems out of character.

But there are a number of more racist and reactionary guys at the BBC I'd like to see cleared out. How about the vile UKIP supporting Mike Read?

Hearhere · 09/05/2019 12:36

Wtf
There can be no excuse or justification for what he posted, trying to dismiss it as just a mistake??
I don't think so

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/05/2019 12:37

I'm still conflicted on it.

I can clearly see the racial connotations.

I can also clearly see the Old Fashioned Family Trots Out Newborn connotations

Part of me thinks the issue is with those who connect chimpanzees as a refrence to black poeple

Part of me thinks it is just cruel to the chimp.

Most of me wants to live in a world where it just doesn't fucking matter!

floribunda18 · 09/05/2019 12:37

How about the vile UKIP supporting Mike Read?

Does he work for the BBC? I haven't seen him in anything since about 1988.
