To really want to pick up and cuddle crying strangers babies?

I understand why parents do not always pick up a crying/screaming baby. And I would never interfere. But God sometimes when I hear a baby I don't even know crying in public, it really physically hurts me and I really really want to pick them up and cuddle them.
Anyone else?

When I see a baby screaming or a toddler acting out I always want to go up to the mum and tell her it gets better and babysit for an hour till she gets a coffee and gathers herself
But I usually walk on by so I don't appear like a loon

Me too, ssd. Sometimes I catch their eye and try to at least do a reassuring smile, then afterwards I think "yeah, they definitely thought I was crazy".

Christ I am not judging. I know why you can't always pick up a crying baby. But it is like a strong involuntary urge I get.
I'm not even that bothered by babies normally. It is an urge I have no control over. And there is one particular type of crying that really does it.

Nope
I had a real crier and awful sleeper of a baby so I just have sympathy for the parents

It's maternal instinct, we're designed to react to crying babies and in some of us the instinct is stronger than in others.yanbu
