Love Harrison as it’s my little boys name 😍

managedmis · 08/05/2019 18:04

Bit apples and pears, non?

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 08/05/2019 18:04

The only Archie I know is very posh indeed. He is an Archibald though.

I think it’s brilliant that the Sussexes are doing things their own way. I read that Fergie wasn’t allowed to call Eugenie Sophie, so it’s refreshing that they have been allowed to choose their own name and their own way for their child.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/05/2019 18:05

What does a bit apples and pears mean?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/05/2019 18:05

I just feel sorry for the poor child if he goes the same way as Wills & Harry. Can already see the headlines... "Archie BALD".

Taffeta · 08/05/2019 18:06

Massive ROFL reading all the middle class snobs on here dissing the names

For centuries, the working classes and upper classes have way more in common than the twattish net curtain twitching oh so bothered about class middles.

Which this thread demonstrates well Grin

Guess what? Archie and Harrison are popular with both the working and upper classes! Like many names.

WeCameToDance · 08/05/2019 18:07

Off topic but why does everyone on mumsnet seem to hate the name Harrison?
I genuinely dont understand the vitriol surrounding it.

HeadlessGummyBears · 08/05/2019 18:07

It would be nice for people to not have to constantly compare all the time. Maybe William and Kate preferred more “traditional” names? A lot of parents have kids called George, Charlotte and Louis and not all of these parents are posh or upper middle class so it doesn’t mean that William and Kate chose less common first names than Harry and Meghan.

madcatladyforever · 08/05/2019 18:08

My grandfather a war hero was Archibald so I'm pleased.

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 08/05/2019 18:08

Really awful! Sorry Megs

RubberTreePlant · 08/05/2019 18:08

What does a bit apples and pears mean?

Apples and pears (stairs) is an example of Cockney rhyming slang.

@managedmis is being a massive snob

HeadlessGummyBears · 08/05/2019 18:08

@Taffeta My point exactly.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2019 18:08

I bet Eugenie was a bit tired of people pronouncing her name incorrectly sometimes! I like it , but with most unusual names it must be a pain when people say it the wrong way or can't spell it.
I knew a Yvie and everyone thought it started with an E!
At least Archie is easy to say and spell.

ForalltheSaints · 08/05/2019 18:10

Beautiful Scottish name. Though my first thought was of Archie Gemmill, who gave a lot of Scottish people their fondest memory of a football World Cup.

Bluerussian · 08/05/2019 18:10

I don't believe it - refuse to believe it.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/05/2019 18:10

I know several dogs called Archie.

Saavhi · 08/05/2019 18:10

What other surnames do the great-grandchildren go by?

Igottastartthinkingbee · 08/05/2019 18:11

It’s ok, sounds a bit sink estate to me but I really like that they haven’t gone with a stuffy ‘royal’ name. I wonder if there was uproar when Zara was named? That’s always struck me as a none royal name. Good for them, congratulations Harry and Meghan.

RattyTat · 08/05/2019 18:11

Why would you refuse to believe it? It isn't as though they named him Shithead. It isn't that out there.

Mabellavender · 08/05/2019 18:12

I like the name Archie, it suits all ages and i think it’s strong enough to be a name on its own rather using Archibald.

Shoppingwithmother · 08/05/2019 18:12

Phillips for Peter Phillips and Tindall for Zara’s children.

Polarbearflavour · 08/05/2019 18:13

I wonder if he will be given a title in time?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/05/2019 18:13

What a lot of faux snobbishness on this thread. Do you not realise that when you can't restrict yourselves to an 'I don't like it' sort of comment, in favour of making some really nasty comments as a put down, you show yourselves up for what you are. Not 'classy' as you seem to think you are, but pitiful.

The parents picked the names, they like them. How would you have felt if others had made the comments that some of you have, about your own choice of children's names?

I've stayed off all the threads but I wondered about this one. Not any more. Same old, same old. Green-eyed monster alive and well and festering on MN.

Nearlythere1 · 08/05/2019 18:14

Megan clearly thinks archie and harrison are very british-sounding names, which they are, but not in a good way...
