It's not like you all have not been wondering

OP posts:
Nearlythere1 · 08/05/2019 17:52

holy moley, common names or what

dayswithaY · 08/05/2019 17:53

There was a Blind Gossip article a few weeks ago about a posh relative stopping another relative from using a certain baby name. We all thought it was Will and Kate stopping Harry and Meghan from using the name Diana. Clearly if it's really George's nickname then they might have been objecting to Archie but they went and used it anyway. Drama!

NoTheresa · 08/05/2019 17:53

The name Archie has mediaeval and aristocratic roots. Look it up.

SemperIdem · 08/05/2019 17:54

What is Zara a diminutive of? Confused

DeadWife · 08/05/2019 17:54

I can just see the Americans pissing themselves right now over threads like this, and no doubt what will surface in The Fail, all the class angst.

It's embarrassing.

Mummyshark2019 · 08/05/2019 17:55

It's cute. Nothing wrong with the name at all. They have chosen what they have chosen.

Nanamilly · 08/05/2019 17:55

I think that Prince George told a woman in the park ( or somewhere) he was called Archie . I read this somewhere a while back and it made me wonder if it was a ' code name' or something? Or just an over active imagination! They do have nicknames for the royals.

It was on the news. She came across George whilst she was out walking and spoke to him not realizing who he was. She asked his name and he said Archie. It was just about then she realized who he actually was. His protection officers seemed happy enough to let him have the same kind of exchange other kids have with people.

TidyDancer · 08/05/2019 17:55

"There's loads of Archie's up here- it's pretty posh ( you won't find any in your sink estates)"

FWIW I don't think this matters at all, but Archie is definitely not a posh name. I would categorise it with Alfie and Charlie etc.

JacquesHammer · 08/05/2019 17:55

I’m more delighted that not only is it a cute name, there’s a certain poster on here who will be aghast, AGHAST at how “common” it is and not fitting for a “blood prince”

Magic Grin

OceanSounds123 · 08/05/2019 17:55

Well I love it so nerrr😀

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/05/2019 17:56

It’s a shit name. Poor little sod.

It doesn’t even go together.

DeadWife · 08/05/2019 17:57

GrinJaques

Saavhi · 08/05/2019 17:57

why have they specified the Mountbatten-Windsor bit

QueenofallIsee · 08/05/2019 17:57

I think it is lovely! Archie won’t be on the throne and even is he was, he could use a different moniker. If you are going to pick on ‘common’ names used for royals, far worse is Savannah!

BentNeckLady · 08/05/2019 17:57

*Archie Harrison??? Sounds like the naughtiest boy in the class.i

^ this.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 08/05/2019 17:59

From my pov Archie lives in a Scottish castle and is an inventor

RubberTreePlant · 08/05/2019 17:59

why have they specified the Mountbatten-Windsor bit

Because they could have chosen for him to go by "Sussex".

Prequelle · 08/05/2019 18:00

I don't get this 'it's a nickname' business. It's a name in its own right. Thousands have it.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/05/2019 18:00

I like it. It's a sweet name.

I know a few Archies. They are all what I would consider 'posh'. Not that that means much as I'm working class so probably not judging it correctly.

It shouldn't matter though. The parents like it. They seem very happy and bother the mother and baby look well. That's what's important.

Shoppingwithmother · 08/05/2019 18:01

I thought this thread was a joke too - awful name. Sorry but it sounds really common, especially Harrison.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2019 18:01

I knew a few Diane's ( not Diana 's though ) When lady Di first came on the scene in the early 1980s they thought they were 'posh ' as it sounded similar! (A step up from a east end council estate! )
My dad used to call my friend ' lady Di' she found it funny!
What's in a name eh?

Archie sounds a bit American too. I'm sure it'll suit him.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/05/2019 18:01

Both not bother

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/05/2019 18:02

Archie is definitely not a posh name

It is in Scotland. Well, according to Monarch of the Glen (showing my age a little bit).

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 08/05/2019 18:02

Have they specified Mountbatten-Windsor to underline the fact that he will not be titled?

KingHenrysCodpiece · 08/05/2019 18:02

Harrison Ford must be quite chuffed!
