If you need this on the back of your car you shouldn’t be driving?

Just that really.I saw it on a car last week (dash cam picture, before someone asks) Am I required to be patient when your reactions are so slow that you can’t break fast enough and hit my car, or worse my child?

If you need this on the back of your car you shouldn’t be driving?

And blocking a big chunk of the visibility from your rear window isn’t wise either!

HBStowe · 08/05/2019 11:50

What a weird interpretation of that sign. Why do you assume it means their reactions will be slow?

I would assume it means things like, ‘don’t get frustrated at a petrol station if I am taking a while to get out of my car’, not ‘I’m going to kill your child with my slow reactions’...

lunar1 · 08/05/2019 11:51

I completely agree. I was almost run over in the supermarket car park a couple of weeks ago. The man got out and yelled at me that I needed to be wary of elderly/vulnerable drivers. I don't bloody think so!

CripsSandwiches · 08/05/2019 11:53

Of course if their reactions are dangerously slow they shouldn't be driving but there is a range of acceptable driving speeds and the tie taken to do manouvres etc is different for different drivers so perhaps while they're safe to drive they may be doing 45 rather than 50 on a country road or not nipping into the small gap you might be able to get into when pulling out from a junction.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/05/2019 11:53

well they are obviously not using their rear view mirror at all!

I loathe all these signs!

scarbados · 08/05/2019 12:05

No worse than 'Baby on Board'. It shouldn't matter to any driver who is or isn't in the car in front.

downcasteyes · 08/05/2019 12:05

There's nothing wrong with a plea for a bit of patience, provided that we are talking about driving that is within the boundaries of what is safe. Someone taking a bit longer than you as they turn a corner does not make them unsafe. Someone being unable to stop a car in an emergency situation is obviously unacceptable.

Loopytiles · 08/05/2019 12:06

Yeah, no worse than “baby on board” - urgh! Ageist though.

999caffeineplease · 08/05/2019 12:09

I would read this as a joke on first viewing, and do the baby on board signs not alert emergency services to the presence of a child? I have neither age group/sign in my car but I’m sure I’ve heard that before.

DonkeyHohtay · 08/05/2019 12:11

Is it any worse than a P plate or those bloody awful "little princess on board" stickers?

Stupid to put it in the middle of your back window though.

purplelass · 08/05/2019 12:12

do the baby on board signs not alert emergency services to the presence of a child

If this is true, do the owners of these signs take them out of the car when the child isn't in there? I've always wondered this...

Sirzy · 08/05/2019 12:12

and do the baby on board signs not alert emergency services to the presence of a child?

That would only vaguely work if it was removed every time the baby wasn’t on board! But either way I think the emergency services are much more likely to go for a thorough check of the car (and if needed surrounding areas) than use a sign to know who may be on board

JacquesHammer · 08/05/2019 12:13

No worse than any of the myriad of dire signs that seem to be on the market.

The placing is awful though - that IS a concern!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 08/05/2019 12:14

No. They would never assume that the presence of a sign guaranteed that there was a child, or that the lack of one meant their wasn't one.

youngfreeandnotsingle · 08/05/2019 12:15

Yeah, I've heard the signs for children are to alert emergency services too!

bengalcat · 08/05/2019 12:16

Anyone who doesn’t have patience with other road users shouldn’t be on the road in my opinion .

NewGrandad · 08/05/2019 12:16

Worse than "Powered by Pixie Dust"?

Damntheman · 08/05/2019 12:16

Eh.. the sign shouldn't be blocking so much of the rear window but frankly a sign like that, and P plates are perfectly valid to me. They say "Please don't get up my arse". They wouldn't be needed either if people weren't so bloody aggressive on the road.

downcasteyes · 08/05/2019 12:16

I assume "baby on board" is to alert other motorists to the fact that it can be rather more difficult to concentrate on the road when you have a small person screaming at 100 dB in the back of the car. You do see parents doing slightly mental things in a car who are clearly in this plight.

PortiaCastis · 08/05/2019 12:17

Thing is unless you take the sign down when baby is not on board the emergency services will be on a wild goose chase

bobstersmum · 08/05/2019 12:17

It's only like p plates

HBStowe · 08/05/2019 12:18

Worse than "Powered by Pixie Dust"?

This should be an arrestable offence imo.

outvoid · 08/05/2019 12:19

One of the questions on the theory test is something to do with being more patient for elderly drivers... Ridiculous, they shouldn’t be on the road if their reactions are slow- it isn’t safe!

missbattenburg · 08/05/2019 12:19

Worse than "Powered by Pixie Dust"?

NOTHING is worse than that...

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 08/05/2019 12:19

I cannot stand any of these signs.
That one is asinine. If you can’t drive properly get off the road
