If you need this on the back of your car you shouldn’t be driving?

Just that really.I saw it on a car last week (dash cam picture, before someone asks) Am I required to be patient when your reactions are so slow that you can’t break fast enough and hit my car, or worse my child?

If, as I suggested, drivers are retested, say, every five years

I think 10 years would make more sense. You have to renew a photo card licence every 10 years, so it could tie in with that.

Having said that, I found my driving tests more nerve-wracking than any other exams I've done (because they're sat next to you, rather than papers being taken away,) so while I think refresher tests would be good, on a personal level, I'm glad we don't have them!

To be fair, Emma, I'd hate them too.
At least that's honest 🙂

I mean there should be some reason for retesting.

The lack of comprehension and logic referenced the assumption that I thought everyone should be retested except me and mine. Capiche?

@Alsohuman

Capiche?

Si. Perché parli in italiano?

Actually you're probably right TheRedBarrows they're probably being bought as a 'joke' for older relatives. I suppose it's all a matter of one's sense of humour; as you say, hardly screams razor sharp wit.

I remember a lot of the school mothers having 'mum's taxi' stickers in their cars when my DCs were at school. I imagine they thought they were amusing when they bought those as well.

They're still making the choice to put them up once they've been given them.

The P signs or as they have been for the last 10+ years green Ls are just to give a new driver a break I guess this could be the same principle but honestly the question should be why do drivers feel the need to tailgate someone who's driving a bit slower (and probably the speed limit as I've found since passing) their is huge pressure on drivers to speed up in slower zones!

Was it Price Phillip in the car? Hmm

Driving on a busy road this morning. There is space for cars to go single lane in both directions, with parking along the left side. There's not a LOT of extra space so if there is traffic in both directions, it's important to pay attention not stay completely within your side of the road. Which I was doing. Unfortunately the elderly gentleman who must have parked his car on the left earlier (I certainly hadn't seen him) didn't think about this and just opened his passenger door. I had just enough space to swing a little to the right to avoid hitting him and luckily my reflexes and attention are good so I didn't swing so far to the right that I hit oncoming traffic.

So no, I have no patience for elderly drivers, new drivers or people with baby signs if they can't drive or pay attention. I don't mind the signs, and certainly it's usually a sign I'll have to watch for even more stupid behaviour from the driver than normal though.

It's only like p plates

Not really. P plates suggest that while a driver has passed to a safe standard they may not yet have the experience to fully appreciate all the nuances of driving and of other driver behaviour, and they may not yet be as efficient as they will be given time.

Conversely, this sign suggests that the driver's abilities used to be acceptable but have deteriorated with age, which is a bit worrying. One has recently passed and will get better, the other passed many years ago and is only going to get worse.

How can he use his rear view mirror with that sign?

I passed my test less than two months ago. Today I had the school run - thirty minutes each way in rain. I am still recovering, and as far as I can tell, none of it was my fault. I had two drivers pull out in front of me, which worried me. I was driving more or less at the speed limit but there wasn't anyone behind me so I could stop okay. And while I was facing uphill, steep slope, traffic lights, I had someone so close to my rear that one more inch would have been adultery. I was terrified starting off, as there wasn't room for error. Of course I managed it, as I do the run twice every school day, and I paid a lot of attention to my instructor, but it isn't fun.

This is why I have P plates - so that people know that if they pull out in front of me, or they are really close when I am stationary facing up a hill, I don't have the experience to deal.

And I'm still regularly tailgated when I'm at the speed limit or driving a difficult part of the route so I firmly support anything that says 'cut this driver some slack and take a breath' and that doesn't obscure the driver's view.

Mind you, some of my older relatives should have had their keys confiscated a lot earlier. I plan to stop when I don't have to do the school run.
