To renounce underwired bras?

Fruityb · 06/05/2019 17:32

Today a bra, that has been comfortable, decided to spend the whole day digging into the sides of my boobs until I pulled the bloody thing out. This happened yesterday with a different bra and has left me really sore.

I have been measured and wear bras that fit well enough but I can’t wait to get them off at the end of the day. After yanking it off today I fished out my crop top bras I wore when pregnant and it’s like my tits went “aaahhhhhh!”

I wore soft bras when pregnant and they were awesome. I’d wear underwired where it needed it but does anyone else just not bother with them otherwise? Underwired that is not bras!

They’re just awful things! I don’t have massive boobs so I’m ok.

Molke all the way!!

opticaldelusion · 06/05/2019 17:41

Haven't worn underwire for decades. I suspect they were designed by a man. Uncomfortable as fuck, frankly.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 06/05/2019 17:42

I find underworld bras more comfy because I hate the sweaty cleavage with a soft bra.

However, when I say ‘comfortable’ it is off the second I walk through my door.

BogglesGoggles · 06/05/2019 17:43

You’re not being fitted correctly. The underwire shouldn’t come into contact with breast tissue at all.

feelingverylazytoday · 06/05/2019 17:44

Haven't worn them for years. I wear those crop top things now, and I've bought a few stretchy tshirt bras for. the summer so I can wear vest tops with thin straps.

Fruityb · 06/05/2019 17:46

It’s fit until now and it’s like two of them have just gone bad! I have one the exact same in another colour and it’s so comfy! I just find them horribly uncomfortable anyway - they need to go! I’ll keep them for special occasions lol.

I hate them, having said.that im pretty sure ive been wearing the wro g size thanks to the bloody M&S method.

Have been wearing 44DD (expensive, ugly and painful) but according to boob or bust method i should be in 40f. Have bought a pretty bra from primark for £4 (quarter of the lowest price bras i usually buy) and we'll see if it makes a difference.

Really sick of deep indentation marks and feeling like underwire is stabbing me!

Treaclepie19 · 06/05/2019 17:48

My boobs are not going to thank me for it but I've been wearing seam free crop top style bras from peacocks for almost a year (5 months of pregnancy and then after)
Mixed in with a few breastfeeding non wired bras that I picked up too.

Meh.

tor8181 · 06/05/2019 17:50

as a J/K cup i have no choice to wear bras that lift and separate other wise they will be by my belly button

Fruityb · 06/05/2019 17:55

Didn’t realise I’d finished it on that originally! Was saying mine aren’t huge so I can manage but I realise for some they are not a choice. Mine are a little sad since having ds anyway 😂

I'm the same! I have compromised with some Triumph bras that have a silicone wire instead. Called magic wire wp bras. Or the Gossard Women's supersmooth.

However at the weekends I tend to wear sporty crop tops. In my case I think my boobs are just a different shape than they were and underwires hurt a lot more.

You have my sympathy - there are a couple if M&S bras that have been comfy, I've gone and bought the exact same bra and usually one is comfy and one is not...just had to bin one after about a month of wear whereas another in exactly the same style is still comfy 6 months later...

LadyRannaldini · 06/05/2019 18:11

When I was working I usually removed my bra at the traffic lights in summer, unfasten and down the shirt sleeves, it was bliss but got me some funny looks at times!

SeraphinaDombegh · 06/05/2019 18:15

I've recently given up on underwire bras entirely. I've been fitted properly but I have quite a prominent sternum, so even the best underwire ends up rubbing on it and it's incredibly uncomfortable. I'm quite small of chest anyway, so it's soft/tshirt bras all the way for me now. My only sadness is that they're not generally as pretty as underwire ones Sad

DontCallMeShitley · 06/05/2019 18:16

Does anyone know of a bra that is not underwired, not padded like a sofa and is a real bra, like you used to get?

learieonthewildmoor · 06/05/2019 18:25

Simone Perelle make wirefree bras. The one called “Caresse” was beautiful, comfortable and a proper bra. Very expensive unfortunately.

Laiste · 06/05/2019 18:46

I'm an x bra fitter. (not M&S, a proper lingerie shop) I know my bra brands and i know how they should fit.

I have a narrow back, a short torso and small ribcage but mahoosive boobs - H/J cup. For years i wore plunge style Freya bras in a 32/34 but over the last year my normal bras began to feel awful. Digging into my armpits, four boob, sagging or gaping and gaping. I believe it's me - i have changed shape slightly.

No probs, i thought. I can do this. And I began trying loads of different styles, different brands, tried a higher gore (the bit between your boobs which should lay against your skin) tried changing cup and back sizes up and down. Tried deeper bands. Tried spending £££. I've even tried a bit of DIY sewing on the bands and straps. Nothing worked and i was getting very disheartened and confused and miserable and out of pocket! I've tried bending the wires in or out and all that. Nothing helped. The only thing i refused to try was a ''lightly padded'' bra. The ones which are lined with spongy material right through the cup. WHY would anyone want bloody padding in a H/J cup?! i thought.

BUT - guess what. I've just bought some ''lightly padded'' Ella plunge bras from Simply Be online (i didn't realise they were padded, i cursed when i opened the package) for £22 for a 2 pack and MY GOD they fit, they're comfy and they hoike me up! Grin I'm so happy!

The moral of this great ramble for anyone struggling is this: keep trying. Something out there will fit you and it may well be a cheapy in a size or shape or style which you didn't expect. Try everything.

bridgetreilly · 06/05/2019 19:06

Laiste, I hear you on the padding. I LOATHE the fact that unpadded bras are so rare, especially for bigger sizes. I don't care if someone can tell I've got nipples. Everyone has nipples! I just don't need a bra to add extra size to my already ample bosomage.

OP, I hardly ever wear underwires any more and I do not regret this choice at all.

Lovelylugs · 06/05/2019 19:13

I cut the wires out of all of my bras. Just a tiny hole at one end and they slip out very easily.

Fruityb · 06/05/2019 19:19

It won’t damage them not to surely? I just feel like I’ve been conditioned to be horribly uncomfortable and put up with it! This one I’m wearing now is so bloody comfy -it’s from Sainsbury’s.

I’ll wear them where needed but I think day to day I’m at the end of the road lol. I can’t afford to splash out on expensive jobs really - I spend less on shoes than some of those cost!

I only wear soft bralettes now! So much nicer and they are very pretty. I do have one underwire one for date nights when I want them on show a bit Grin

Laura221 · 06/05/2019 19:21

Oh also I just get one from h and m or new look or something. Cheap and because they dobt have all sorts of stupid sizes always fit nicely

MrDarcysMa · 06/05/2019 19:23

Sloggi zero feel. Life changing !

SunshineCake · 06/05/2019 19:25

I was under the impression that with my G cups I needed under wiring. I bought a soft bra in the sale and while I'm not 100% it is right it's nicer than a bra with wiring. I despair of ever getting a bra that fits correctly but I'm certainly looking to buy non wired in the future.

SunshineCake · 06/05/2019 19:53

I tried a padded bra in desperation as it was literally the only bra in the shop in my size. It fit lovely. I planned to buy more. By wear number three it was just as uncomfortable as previous bras. This always happens and I'm fed up with it. Does anyone buy new bras every 3/4 months as recommended ?

UnRavellingFast · 06/05/2019 22:04

@LadyRannaldini When I was working I usually removed my bra at the traffic lights in summer
And what sort of work was this GrinGrin
