To think the judge who sentenced Ted Bundy said these words to him??

'You're a bright young man. You would have made a good lawyer and I would have loved to have you practice in front of me, but you went another way, partner. Take care of yourself. I don't feel any animosity toward you.'

I watched the documentary about his horrific crimes.

WTF was the judge doing talking to him like it's a shame he broke into someone's house? I'll bet the families of all those women (and child!) he murdered felt animosity towards him!

TBH it wouldn't surprise me if these words had been said to a serial rapist today. I've just read a story about a man who kidnapped a 16yo and kept her captive for a year, raping her hundreds of times. He didn't even get a jail sentence. Nothing has changed since Bundy Sad

Scarcelyburnt · 05/05/2019 21:23

He was a white, good looking educated man. If he was black or a woman, I'm sure the judge would had expressed very different words.

PrincessCessy · 05/05/2019 21:24

This is the Ted Bundy story through and through though, isn’t it?

ElektraLOL · 05/05/2019 21:26

Well I'm very surprised that even a judge, especially in a state like Florida would be taken in by Bundy's apparent charm. So what if he was bright? Most psychopaths are... he was a very dangerous man who also had an uncertain grip on reality at the best of times. I noticed that he was also given airtime to push a 'poor me' narrative whilst he was on death row.

I think he seems exactly like Ian Brady, never happier than when the spotlight was on him.

It’s unbelievable

But people like Bundy are able to split teams working with them, they can be so convincing that people are totally drawn in you heard two very different accounts of who he was

It happens often that is why you will have teams working with psychopaths and narcissists

PaperFlowers4 · 05/05/2019 21:30

“ I don't feel any animosity toward you.”

That is actually chilling.

Really, no animosity? After hearing about what Bundy did to all those women.

ElektraLOL · 05/05/2019 21:31

I can't understand why that man was a judge.

OP posts:
iklboo · 05/05/2019 21:32

While it's not a judge's place to feel animosity towards culprits it sounded almost like he was saying it was a shame Bundy was caught.

ElektraLOL · 05/05/2019 21:33

Yes @iklboo that's exactly how it came across to me as well.

I watched the film last night and was appalled by the words the judge used. I really feel for the victims families.

GunpowderGelatine · 05/05/2019 21:41

Sadly OP white clever men are basically Teflon coated when it comes to sex crimes. Nothing has changed.

LunchBoxPolice · 05/05/2019 21:44

I was shocked when I watched this last night too. Such an odd thing to say to a murderer

LarryGreysonsDoor · 05/05/2019 21:46

I can't understand why that man was a judge.

The patriarchy, that’s why.

ChocoCrocc · 05/05/2019 21:47

Yes, I agree. Really bizarre way for a judge to address a serial murderer/rapist. Especially one was horrific as Bundy.

bamboofibre · 05/05/2019 21:47

YANBU

youarenotkiddingme · 05/05/2019 21:51

I'm very interested in true crime.

This sounds an utterly disturbing case on many levels and I don't know the case (although have heard the name).

I would be interested to watch the documentary if someone could point me in the right direction.

I was discussing the other day with my friend (female cps lawyer) whether she thought the judicial system was still a upper class white mans club.

Thankfully she said not as much as it was.

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/05/2019 21:52

I would be interested to watch the documentary if someone could point me in the right direction.

It's The Ted Bundy Files on Netflix

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/05/2019 21:54

We watched this as well & felt the same.

Also watched The Yorkshire Ripper Files on BBC3 & some of that was unbelievable too, especially the way the victims were treat. Sad
That's also worth watching for anyone interested in true crime.

bamboofibre · 05/05/2019 21:55

I'm sick at the film, that this scumbag is entertainment! FFS, he kept some of his victims alive for days, strangling them to unconsciousness and reviving them to rape and torture them.

Starlive23 · 05/05/2019 21:56

Oh my word, how unprofessional! Certainly in this day and age, I guess times were different then, but I totally agree OP, that's like expressing administration for a murderer!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/05/2019 21:59

Though I am not dismissing the fact that becuase Bundy was white, educated and charismatic he was viewed differently - it was a shame it was him of all people

This does happen with psychopaths/narcissistists professionals are at times drawn in they often manage to split teams of legal staff/medical/psychology teams/police investigators/judicial/prison staff/

That’s one of the reasons you will have teams working with tbem and really difficult personalities the team will be changed around frequently so less chance of splitting and manipulation to be had

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/05/2019 22:12

What an awful thing to say. I saw the film was on Netflix but haven’t watched it yet.

Aridane · 05/05/2019 22:13

Gosh

Here's a slightly fuller quote

You missed out the beginning of the judges words where he called him Exceedingly wicked shockingly evil and vile.
