To always request a refund on my substitutions (online shopping)

HostOffice · 04/05/2019 22:21

I always do click and collect. On the app it tells me what substitute items I have and it's really easy to request a refund if I don't like the substitution. I'm now beginning to find more and more reasons to request the refund, sometimes genuine and sometimes less so.

Given that I get to keep the items it's a bit of a moral dilemma!

Fair game or immoral?

OP posts:
PinkSlide1 · 04/05/2019 22:23

Immoral! If you don't want substitutions just select no substitutions.

englishdictionary · 04/05/2019 22:25

What’s the point? Just say no to substitutions if you don’t want any.

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2019 22:25

So they substitute the item, you say you don't like it, you keep it and they refund you? But you actually do like it?

Interesting.

bigdecisionstomake · 04/05/2019 22:29

Hope you’re joking...? This is wrong in every way and all the rest of us simply end up subsidising your shopping. Why would you even begin to think that that’s ‘fair game’?

SteveTheSpiderPlant · 04/05/2019 22:31

I didn't realise you could keep them and refund them. Seems a bit cheeky if you are soung it regularly.

Greeborising · 04/05/2019 22:32

So if you request a refund on a substituted item you get the item AIND a refund? 😳
Shady

MondeoFan · 04/05/2019 22:34

Things like this is why the prices are creeping up at the supermarket. Imagine if every online shopper did this?

CloserIAm2Fine · 04/05/2019 22:34

Don’t be a CF! If you don’t want substitutions then tick the box that you don’t want them. If you don’t like the substitutions you receive then don’t accept them, give them back to the driver.

CFs like you are not screwing big business like they like to think, big business will simply pass the cost of such cheeky fuckery on to their customers

Onceuponacheesecake · 04/05/2019 22:35

You know what subs you are getting. You can reject them when you receive your order instead, then they go back to store. Or just select no substitutions for certain items you don't want to compromise on. You are being a massive CF and because of people like you, eventually requesting refunds for legitimate reasons will become more difficult

Bouncebacker · 04/05/2019 22:37

I only get delivery- but if I don’t like the substitute, I just give it back to the driver and they take it off the bill. If I keep the substitute and it’s more expensive that the item I ordered, I only pay the cheapest amount. That seems crazy that you can keep something but say you didn’t like it and not pay.... morally dubious if you do this one purpose

Gazelda · 04/05/2019 22:40

You know it's Immoral. Don't even try to convince yourself otherwise

Thesearmsofmine · 04/05/2019 22:43

YABU you can either select no subs or refuse it when you collect your shopping.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 04/05/2019 22:45

Why would they even offer a refund on stuff you’ve willingly accepted at delivery?
Yes, what you do is fairly grubby, really. Are you pleased with yourself?

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 04/05/2019 22:46

Thats lousy. If you wouldnt find it acceptable to do in store, then why is it acceptable online?

Lalallama · 04/05/2019 22:47

I'm going to go against the grain and say I understand your viewpoint OP. Every time I do an online shop there are at least 5 substitutions or items which are unavailable. I don't have time to check them all when the delivery driver is standing at the door waiting for the crates back so i can't always give them back even if I want to. Many of them are absolutely fine (same product but different brand for example) but some are unsuitable, eg different size nappies. So I have no qualms about asking for refunds for them and then giving them to friends.

I feel it's compensation for the inconvenience too. I get shopping delivered because I don't drive, so every time something is substituted or unavailable it's an extra bus trip with a baby and toddler to buy the things they said were in stock when I ordered the evening before, but which weren't at all.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 04/05/2019 22:48

I do click and collect for groceries, they show me my subs when I get there if I want them lovely, always price matched and you usually get something better or a larger amount for the same price,. If I don't want it I say no thank you, they refund it and take it away, I don't keep it!

bananascanturnonlamps · 04/05/2019 22:48

It's not a moral dilemma really is it 🙄

Buddytheelf85 · 04/05/2019 22:49

With my online shop you either keep or reject the substitution at the point of delivery. If the item they’ve substituted is more expensive you pay for the cheaper item. It’s no easier to complain about substitutions than it is to complain about items you chose.

Clearly your online supermarket is different, but I think what you’re doing is too close to fraud for most people to feel comfortable with it.

My online shop tells me in advance what’s been substituted and what it’s been substituted with - so if you’re not happy you just say to the driver ‘I don’t want the substitute nappies’ or whatever. Do some providers not do this?

Lalallama · 04/05/2019 22:54

TheGrey1houndSpeaks none of the Asda delivery drivers have never gone through the substitutions with me or asked if I'm happy with them. They always seem in a massive rush.

thelastgoldeneagle · 04/05/2019 22:54

Bollocks, Lalallama - there’s plenty of time to check and ok substitutions.

Op, you’re a thief.

Summerontheway · 04/05/2019 22:54

I think the OP is talking about ASDA and said click and collect so there is no driver involved. At my local asda you collect from a locker and any items you dont want you're supposed to leave in the locker and they process the refund. In my experience they have not once processed a refund on anything I've left behind so I end up requesting it myself on the app as you only have 3 days to do it. That's when I realised it would be very easy to keep the items and request a refund... yes it's wrong but they have opened themselves up to this with their system and made it very easy for people to do it

frasersmummy · 04/05/2019 22:54

Which supermarket allows you to keep your subs and refund them!!
