Washing up

Hoping to settle a difference of opinion... Do you rinse the dishes under the tap as a last step when washing up?

I always rinse under the tap after having used a soapy sponge on the dishes beforehand.

How dirty are you that you object to sitting in a bath full of water? I have baths without rinsing off after but I'm not caked in dirt to begin with so it doesn't bother me. I use a jug of water to clean after using the loo so I know I'm not going to be sitting in anything terrible in the bath...

You can tell those who care about the environment from those who don't.

AlletrixLeStrange · 04/05/2019 20:35

Nope and I leave the washing up on the drawing board to dry, nobody's died yet and I can't taste any soap in my food

YAWN...

Yes I wash my dishes under running water but I don't own a car, a dog (all that meat consumption) and live in a very economical one bedroom flat.

You're very clever to be able to spot someone who doesn't care about the environment from this one issue.

fblake · 04/05/2019 20:49

Yes.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 04/05/2019 20:51

No and I'm not going to waste water for no reason.

Not once in 30years+ of hand washing up (have never had a DW) has any family, friend or partner ever commented on soapy plates when eating with me.

Aprillygirl · 04/05/2019 20:52

None of that excuses the fact that you are wasting a valuable resource every single day for no reason findingmyfeet.

TheSmallAssassin · 04/05/2019 20:52

No, I've never rinsed, neither has anyone in my extended family. My husband (who does pretty much all the washing up in our house anyway) has never rinsed either, though he uses a washing up bowl instead of the sink, which I can't be doing with.

AliceRR · 04/05/2019 20:54

he uses a washing up bowl instead of the sink, which I can't be doing with.

Why does that bother you?

findingmyfeet12 · 04/05/2019 20:56

The trouble is I think I do have a reason.

The fact that you don't - shame but hey that's life.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/05/2019 20:57

I had a friend who rinsed. She used no more water than a bowl full to wash up the other way.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/05/2019 21:00

Wash and rinse as the sink fills, most things then get rinsed but I don't think I'll die from a small amount of bubbles of a few drained dishes. Can't waste water.

DeltaFlyer · 04/05/2019 21:02

I rinse glasses under the tap after washing so they don't get streaky. Pan lids are rinsed too as they're also made of glass.
I wash and rinse the item straight after (double sink)
Don't bother with other things and never noticed soapy pots

TheSmallAssassin · 04/05/2019 21:05

I don't know AliceRR, it's not a rational thing! He uses a hanky too, which is something I've always thought goes with using a washing up bowl, based solely on my best friend at school, I think.

DeltaFlyer · 04/05/2019 21:05

I pre rinse pots that have things like gravy or bean juice on to keep the washing up water cleaner.
Glasses get done 1st, then cleaner pots, dirtier pots such as pans and then the cats dish

InsertFunnyUsername · 04/05/2019 21:06

Yes i rinse after washing up.

Its because I'm a Gemini i do it like that.

BaronessBomburst · 04/05/2019 21:11

I don't believe in any god and rinse dishes.

I used to rinse before I put away and rinse them before I used them.

Now I just do the latter.

The DCs help put them away and get them out so mucky fingers etc. Which is why I give them a cursory rinse before I use them, and In case of bubbles or residue.

dementedma · 04/05/2019 21:21

I rinse the worst off before washing up in a bowl. Dont rinse after unless very soapy

CheeseFace · 04/05/2019 21:28

No, and trust me I will not be lying in my deathbed wishing I had either.

MrsBAF · 04/05/2019 21:34

yes. i dont feel soapy bubbles is edible

it comes out without bubbles from dishwashers too

MollyHuaCha · 04/05/2019 21:41

Of course you have to rinse off soap bubbles from plates, cups, cutlery, pans. It's horrible not to!

Would you leave shampoo in your hair?

Unicornshopkeeper · 04/05/2019 21:59

I don't understand how soap residue is left on dishes etc if you're drying them with a tea towel?

procrastinatingtoday · 04/05/2019 22:06

Yes of course you rinse soap out!

Other nations know British people don't do it, and find it very strange 😁
