We had a furry lid cover and u shaped thing on the floor but not on the actual seat. That’s gonna get pissy real quick

TooManyPaws · 04/05/2019 16:34

We had the loo lid cover and the pedestal mat as well as bathroom carpet, even though I thought it was unhygienic then. Someone I knew in the 80s had a matching cistern cover which boggled my mind.

I really hate padded vinyl loo seats.

hewontstopshitting · 04/05/2019 16:37

I had one of these when I was little, I used to hover instead of sitting on jt

chemenger · 04/05/2019 16:38

I was a teenager in the 70’s and I don’t remember ever seeing one of these. Covers on the lid, yes, but not the seat.

Gertie75 · 04/05/2019 16:42

My nan used to have one, I loved it and used to go to the toilet more times in the 2 hours we visited her than I did the whole week!

As a kid it never crossed my mind how unhygienic it was.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 04/05/2019 16:52

My ex-MIL (now deceased) had a back leather padded toilet seat. It was revolting.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2019 16:55

It’s not going to be warm and cosy for long especially if there are any males in the house. More cold and damp... but don’t despair you can wring the wee out with the weight of your thighs folks. And just hope that it wasn’t a heavy period or diarrhoea day! 🤢

Never seen anything like it. Lid covers in the 70’s yes.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2019 17:00

I think we should just theme our loos. They don’t get enough attention.

Lid covers were popular, and useful. If you share a bedroom in an unheated house and have to change in the bathroom it is horrible to sit nude and dry yourself on a cold toilet seat, the cover makes it less of an ordeal.

goldenchicken · 04/05/2019 17:01

OMG that is fecking gross but wonderfully hilarious!

Yes I do remember the loo seat covers.

Me and DH still had one in the mid to late 1990's. Shock

I saw these on Amazon and couldn't believe it. How unhygienic! I live in a house of boys though. Lots of people in the reviews thought they were great.

goldenchicken · 04/05/2019 17:13

@Mummyoflittledragon LOL! Love the themed loo! Grin

Anyone used to watch One Foot In The Grave?

Ronnie and Mildred (Victor and Margaret's frenemies,) had a loo seat with a pic of them on it, that you saw when you lifted the seat! Grin

I guess if you live alone it might be ok? But no, not something I would buy. I moved into house once with a seat like pp mentioned above, padded vinyl type. But it was ripped and an old man had lived there before. You can imagine how it smelt! That was the absolute first thing to go.

I love the heated toilet seats in Japan. So toasty on a cold day!

Hecateh · 04/05/2019 17:15

My parents had one on the seat in the early 70's so they definitely were a thing. I think even then though most people would see the downside.

They quickly went on to the padded plastic one though which was almost as disgusting,

Meercat2 · 04/05/2019 17:16

My MIL has just replaced her bathroom carpet with a.......new carpet. It's a real acrobatic show trying to have a shower without touching the floor more than absolutely necessary with your set feet afterwards

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2019 17:16

goldenchicken
That’s funny. We need a new seat. Maybe I’ll get something quirky!

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/05/2019 17:17

Meercat
Flip flops / shower shoes could be good?

PinkHeart5914 · 04/05/2019 17:18

I not that long ago went for a wee in a friend of mil home and the toilet seat was white looked normal until you sat on it, now it wasn’t knitted but like vinyl soft and squidgy texture. Was a horrid unexpected sensation on my bum

floraloctopus · 04/05/2019 17:19

Everyone had these in the 1970s.

We must have been in a different 1970s - I've never seen one before thank goodness

Deathraystare · 04/05/2019 17:26

Mmm lovely. Wonder if there are any knitting patterns. Might ask Auntie to knit one for me!!!!!

MitziTheTabbyIsMyOverlord · 04/05/2019 17:31

I feel they're aspirational

stickerqueen · 04/05/2019 17:34

yuck.

on a side note anyone want one knitted?

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 04/05/2019 17:39

Probably the same type of person that would buy this?! Grin Grin

(Looks like some kind of negligee for those with a white goods fetish) Blush

Mummyoflittledragon flipflops are an excellent idea. Don't know why I haven't thought of that before
