For my sons first passport!

My parents full birth certificates and marriage certificate and the same for my husbands parents.

It’s bonkers. Has anyone else had to provide all of this?

What if you don’t have everything?

From memory, my understanding is that the online system generates different documentary requirements, depending on how you answer initial the screening questions.

I think that's what's changed in the past year or so. It's now (apparently) asking for everything, needed or not.

Meyamoo · 03/05/2019 08:35

I remember seeing that there was a longer list of documents which may be required, but you only have to send them if they apply to your circumstances, otherwise you can just ignore them!

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 08:37

@Meyamoo did you see the screenshot attached to the OP?

Yabbers · 03/05/2019 08:42

I applied last month and all I needed were our passport numbers and her birth certificate.

Meyamoo · 03/05/2019 08:45

@RubberTreePlant

Thanks for that information, sounds like it’ll be a lot trickier for us if there is a next time!

Meyamoo · 03/05/2019 08:48

@RubberTreePlant

No, i didn’t see any pictures attached to the OP, maybe because I’m on my phone? I’ll have a look once I’m on a proper computer.

My husband doesn’t have a British passport

But why is this relevant if the OP does? Since when do both parents need to be British for you to get British citizenship? Was the baby born in the UK?

Sexnotgender · 03/05/2019 09:04

Baby was born here yes to me a British citizen who was born before 1983.

Sorry if it was upthread, I've lost track of all the comments! OP, were you born in the UK or have citizenship by descent?

Sexnotgender · 03/05/2019 11:06

I was born in the uk. My parents were born in the uk, my grandparents were born in the uk...

Lochroy · 03/05/2019 11:44

So all I can read into it is either it's a system cock up or you've entered DH as the lead applicant or it's erroneously not picking your citizenship up. Surprised if all that paperwork is needed in your situation.

Sexnotgender · 03/05/2019 12:06

UPDATE:

I phoned and spoke to a lovely gentleman and the ONLY thing i need to provide is my sons birth certificate!

What a bloody ridiculous system. He says lots of people phone asking the same thing.

It’s not hard to code a web page to only ask for what they actually need!

OP posts:
lborolass · 03/05/2019 12:58

That's a good, if not surprising, result.

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/05/2019 13:07

I doubt my parents original birth certificates exist. I don’t know my gps and I doubt their marriage certificate exists either.

So I know I couldn’t provide any of those details.

Andoffwegoagain · 03/05/2019 13:22

Good news for you, but how annoying! I spent days getting all the information, almost certainly all unnecessary Angry I agree it can’t be that hard for them to have a computer system that works.

Well done for ringing OP, clearly what I should have done Smile

Sexnotgender · 03/05/2019 13:26

It’s definitely good news!

We were going to have to courier papers over from my in laws and send my husbands passport.

My parents would have been straightforward but glad I don’t need to do it.

Great outcome @Sexnotgender, and in line with what I would have expected, given the circumstances.

Sum77 · 17/05/2023 10:23

Hi,
Just to share my experience.
At first, I sent only my Daughter's Birth Certificate.
They sent me a letter asking for one of our British Passport/ ILR.
so I then sent only my ILR BRP card. (Did not send information of Grand Parents).
Passport of Daughter got approved.

I’ve got a passport and provided the number, I applied online and these are the documents they have specifically requested.

You can only get copies of uk certificates online unfortunately.

My husband doesn’t have a British passport.

It’s because your husband doesn’t have a British passport

Did you not read OPs update?
All that was required was the child's birth certificate and OPs passport number as she is a British citizen and has passed on the British citizenship to her child through birth.
