To think I shouldn't be THIS heavy??

So to start, I know I am no supermodel. Fairly tall at 5'8, size 14, smaller waist, medium bust. Fairly curvy arse/ thighs but toned. I am fit and strong and exercise 4-5x per week, including strength training.

Now I know measurements and photos are a better gauge than the scales, and muscle is meant to weigh more than fat (but I thought that was bullshit).....I am 14.5 stone! I have a friend with the same body measurements as me and same height and she is TWO STONE lighter.
Can some people just be 'heavy'???

On my screen, green is labelled 'low'. My cross would be JUST out of that range.

It would be nearer a stone to get down to the nhs's 11st5 recommendation, and i cant do that without damaging methods. I am JUST above the 'low' importance section, which sounds far more reasonable, i could easily be a statistical outluer and, when taking into account other factors, it certainly doesnt make a good case for damaging myself to make numbers add up perfectly. A lot more reasonable than my doctors attitude years ago Hmm

Nhs etc give 11st5 as the top end.

Smartbmi gives 12st6, a full stone heavier, as JUST outside the 'low importance' range

That stone is the difference between good and bad health for me, so im pleased theres been progress in the last 15yrs and there is leeway for bigger builds.

Obviously i paraphrased their wording but it is certainly very different to the nhs line ive been given - presumably their lines on the chart mean something or they wouldnt have drawn them Hmm and like i say, in context with my life, it places low importance on losing the stone i would have to to get down to the desired 11st5. You keep saying 8lbs but 12st6 to 11st5 isnt, and, it would take a LOT of work for me to get there. I already do manual work, never sit around the house watching telly, and have a very strict diet and im 14st6 (pictured)

@Kennehora alienator has mentioned 12st 6 as her target weight.

Most bizarre discussion about BMI I've ever seen on here. I reckon someone's scales are broken (or their eyes/brain).

ContinuityError · 08/05/2019 07:58

14 st 6 at 5’7” and age 30 is well into the moderate risk zone and getting close to high risk. It still calculates a BMI of 32 but classifies it as “overweight” rather than the WHO definition “obese”.

SBMI = 48/70

This assessment is based on the newly developed Smart Body Mass Index. Its ideal range is between 30/70 and 39/70.

Your Smart Body Mass Index (SBMI) is calculated as 48/70 or "48 points out of 70".

With a weight loss of 14 pounds down to a target weight of 13 stones 6 pounds, your health would benefit.

I’m just under 9 stone. 5’6 and I can’t fit comfortably into a size 10🤯 What the actual fuck?

I'm 5'6'' and if I got the conversion right, 11,5 stone. That makes me clearly overweight, not even at the top end of healthy, normal BMI. I am quite comfortable in those size 10 trousers, and can also fit into this Topshop size 10 skirt. Attached photos of labels too, to show I'm not making the sizes up.

RiversDisguise · 08/05/2019 09:58

That skirt is super cute!

Alwaysthesun · 08/05/2019 10:00

It's all a bit of a puzzle. I actually have a very small bone structure - small waist, wrists and ankles etc. I have a small back, but large boobs (32G) and bum. I weight just under 14 stone at 5 f 7. I wear a large size 12 on top and a 14 on the bottom. I'm pretty toned, but would like to drop weight. I've had some severe food intolerances going on for years and my body got a little wreaked. I prefer to be 11 stone max. My sister is the same height and to look the same size as me needs to be a good 2 stone lighter Hmm

RiversDisguise · 08/05/2019 10:07

Kennehora has posted nothing but accurate information all thread. I suspect most of us are ducking in and out with long breaks for our sanity. So hats off to that lady.

The sad thing in paradise's and others' posts is the defeatism, the idea that they will never be a healthy weight, that it's impossible for them. It's so very possible. If they were put on a calorie controlled diet under supervision they would 100% lose weight.

It doesn't matter how strict your diet is of you are getting too many calories. It doesn't matter if you restrict 18hrs a day if you eat over your target calories in the other six.

It's not necessarily easy but it's mindblowingly simple.

ContinuityError · 08/05/2019 10:09

11st 5lbs would be 72.1 kg?

I find this website quite useful for estimating clothes sizes from different shops from your measurements:

sizes.darkgreener.com/

I’m 5’6” and 10st 12lbs, I’d never fit into a size 10.

ContinuityError · 08/05/2019 10:12

As in I have a big frame and I personally don’t fit size 10 (even when I was 10 st 2 lbs a few years ago), not that I’m doubting G5000

DieselSucker · 08/05/2019 10:29

@G5000 you weigh 73kg?

G5000 · 08/05/2019 10:36

72 something.

DieselSucker · 08/05/2019 10:48

@G5000 wow.
When I was that size clothes, I was weighing about than 63kg and I'm 5ft10

FigaroSiFigaroLa · 08/05/2019 11:37

NC’ed. G5000 would be my ideal figure. To achieve it I would need to weigh 74-76kg. SmartBMI calculator puts me in the green ‘optimal’ zone in that weight. My current weight of 86-87kg the SmartBMI puts at overweight and no longer optimal. We know that. However, it does say it is not obese for my height/age and is good enough provided my health markers are ok such as decent muscle mass, blood sugar, blood pressure etc. It also said I would do well just to maintain or go slightly lower. I completely agree with this assessment. Yes, overweight, but not unhealthily obese like some posters on here would have you believe.

Go by your own body. If the weight of 74-76kg is optimal for me, for another woman it will be unhealthily fat and dangerous.

FigaroSiFigaroLa · 08/05/2019 11:47

Will also never squeeze in anything other than size 14 now. I wore a 12 top and 10 bottom at 20 when I had no boobs and before I carried and birthed three children. My body has changed considerably following 6 combined years of breastfeeding, going from a B cup to a GG cup. The band size hasn’t really changed. My hips will never ever ever fit into a 10 again. And that’s fine.
