Crocs for babies - supportive enough?

Posting here for traffic.

Are crocs better than jelly type shoes?

For babies? is this a serious question?

RocketSurgery · 30/04/2019 12:41

I can’t imagine actual Crocs would be very supportive. I got some rubber sandals made by Crocs for my dc which he wore from about 9mo. They seemed supportive.

Ones like this

For how long? Quick paddle or wearing all day?
I’d go to an independent shoe shop and ask them. If they think they’re ok you could make sure they are properly fitted.

racewhorse · 30/04/2019 12:52

@ZeroFuchsGiven Yea? Why wouldn't it be. A 14 month old walking baby.

My 16 month old wears Crocs. I think they're fine. She has the band round the back to hold them on. Sometimes she cuddles them.

octonoughtcake3 · 30/04/2019 12:53

Lots of people would say a 14 month old is not a baby. I can’t imagine how such a young child would keep crocs on.

managedmis · 30/04/2019 12:55

14 months?

No way.

Unless crocs now do sandals?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 30/04/2019 12:57

Babies and toddlers need support on their feet, I can't think of anything worse than putting crocs or jelly shoes on feet so small.

legolimb · 30/04/2019 12:58

Would something like this be more supportive and protective?

I was always very careful which shoes I bought for DS - I know how painful it is to get blisters and sore patches. It would be horrible for a small child to have uncomfortable feet.

Damntheman · 30/04/2019 13:16

I think a child that young would need the type of sandals that come down over the toes, if you get what I mean? Otherwise they're going to catch the front of the sandal in the floor/ground and faceplant/do themselves a real nasty.

I don't know about crocs, a proper baby sandal jelly shoe should be fine but check regularly around the ankle that it isn't rubbing and creating a sore :)

Flakeyface · 30/04/2019 22:48

Blimey is it 1950?
Babies most certainly do not need ‘support’ on their feet. They’re not elderly breasts.
They have soft growing bones and hyper mobile joints. They need barefoot or the nearest thing. Very soft UN supportive footwear.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 30/04/2019 22:49

Ffs, no.

Notanidiot · 30/04/2019 23:00

If the baby is not yet walking, they do not need footwear, only babby padders or whatever those soft booties are called now.

My biggest bugbear (apart from seeing tiny babies in front facing pushchairs with mums in phones not talking to their babies) is babies in mini trainers etc.

Their feet are growing and shouldn't be put in rigid shoes. Or worse still liitle tots in Ugg style boots that don't have enough support. It's horrible to see children walking on the insides of their feet knowing they will have ankle, knee and hip problems later on in life as a result.

EllenRachel · 30/04/2019 23:12

My children have been wearing crocs since they could walk. First ones were a size 3 I think. Not all the time but very easy for holidays and hot days.

LizB62A · 30/04/2019 23:14

They don't need fashion footwear.....
And, as above, definitely not Ugg's - I'm convinced there's an Ugg timebomb brewing in terms of dodgy knees, ankles etc.

julensaor · 01/05/2019 00:23

probably not as everyday shoes?

Pinkkahori · 01/05/2019 00:29

My dd had tiny little Crocs as summer shoes when she was 2. They never rubbed or hurt her feet at all and she could walk perfectly in them.
I don't like open toed sandals on young children. I think they can cause trips and falls.

Rosesaredead · 01/05/2019 03:22

My baby has crocs. They're great for your feet. He loves them!

Rosesaredead · 01/05/2019 03:24

A 14 month old isn't a baby? Shock I still consider my 20 month old a baby Blush

User8888888 · 01/05/2019 03:29

Basically think of crocs as summer wellies. They are great for pottering about in the garden, playing with sand/water etc but probably not your only pair of shoes.

Jent13c · 01/05/2019 03:30

I have a 2 year old with non branded crocs. We live abroad and they are perfect for nipping down to the pool, wearing around the pool or nipping down to the shop. He loves that he can put them on and off himself. However I would never let him wear them if we were venturing any further. They are very wide and he has tiny narrow feet and slips out of them/falls over the whole time.
I think it definitely depends on the child though, mine is a very cautious child and not particularly well coordinated. I see so many tiny little kids running about the park with crocs or backless flip flops with no bother at all.

LiliesAndChocolate · 01/05/2019 03:47

They are very dangerous on escalators. There have been several accidents and in some place you will see the symbol of crocs with a big X near the escalator. A child even lost a toe. www.kidspot.com.au/parenting/real-life/in-the-news/mums-warning-about-dangerous-shoes-after-her-5yearold-lost-his-toe/news-story/a1156a03f2b5cfe90a0e8c2a1aaf821c
