To ask when my post is likely to get to me?

Ordered something from eBay on Sunday, it was posted this morning from London 1st class, being delivered to East Midlands.

Can anyone take an estimated guess re when it will arrive?

It's a parcel but a fairly small one. 5 packets of hair extensions for box braids, my appt is on Wednesday morning and I'm panicking they won't arrive!

What do we think? WIB sensible to presume 1st class won't always be next day and to buy some more from my local shop (just not the colour length I really wanted, but never mind...)

Not a big deal, just a bit strapped for cash at the moment, hence the eBay buy!

How long is a piece of string? It could be tomorrow but more likely Wednesday.

Why are you buying hair extensions, let alone considering buying more, when you are strapped for cash?

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:02

@brizzlemint I have Afro hair that is extremely hard to look after. I have it braided into a protective style that lasts 6-8 weeks. I have a 6 month old and struggle with my hair as it takes hours to do and I can't braid very well. It's an essential for me, not a style thing.

If I bought more I would just use the other ones next time I get my hair done.

I send multiple parcels every day via first class post. The vast majority arrive the following day. So really should be with you tomorrow or Wednesday at a push.
If it is a small parcel (rather than a large letter) there will also be tracking information so you can check progress

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 12:12

Hair extensions are essential? Only on MN!

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:12

Thank you @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - keeping my fingers crossed!

@brizzlemint you clearly have no idea how hard Afro hair is to care for when not in a protective style, let alone when you are a single parent with a 6 month old to look after.

OP posts:
brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 12:19

I know that Afro hair can be hard to look after but I know people with Afro hair who manage to look after it without needing hair extensions. They are a luxury and not an essential.

Being a single parent with a 6 month old has nothing to do with it except that you presumably have less money to spend on hair extensions.

fixyourgardengate · 29/04/2019 12:24

Should be tomorrow. Assuming it really has been posted. And that it gets collected from the Post office and sent to the sorting office today. And is clearly and correctly labelled. And has the correct postage on it. And that it gets sorted to the correct delivery office. And then transported to the correct delivery office. And is then passed to the correct Delivery officer (postie). Who can then attempt delivery.

So much can, and frequently does, go wrong. But Tuesday is generally a very light day delivery wise so I would like to think it will arrive tomorrow Smile

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:27

@brizzlemint knowing people with Afro hair does not make you an expert on Afro hair. Great that your friends are able to look after their hair. I really struggle with mine. What type of hair do they have? 3b? 4c? Because it makes all the difference.

Being a single parent to a 6 month old has everything to do with it. It takes me over an hour to wet my hair every day, put the right products in it, style it, let it dry etc etc. It's extremely time consuming and I don't have the time nor energy to do braid outs or Bantus every night to make it look nice. If I just leave it as it is I have a big task the next morning to make it look nice again. I'm talking 1-2 hours by the time it's dry.

When it is in a protective style I can wash it once a week and that's it. It saves me countless hours doing my hair, and that to me is essential.

Thanks @fixyourgardengate - and yes you're right they may not have even posted it! Fingers crossed they're being truthful :)

@brizzlemint, why are you so concerned about how the OP spends her money? That's her business.

OP, I would imagine it would be tomorrow. Can you track it at all?

HBStowe · 29/04/2019 12:29

@brizzlemint stop being so bloody judgemental! Who are you to jump down her throat about a purchase just because you don’t see is as an essential?!

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:29

Thanks @SrSteveOskowski - I've messaged the seller for tracking info - don't usually buy things online so hoping they'll get back to me :)

Being a single parent to a 6 month old has everything to do with it. It takes me over an hour to wet my hair every day, put the right products in it, style it, let it dry etc etc

That's choice though. I am a single parent (through choice) and could easily spend an hour to wet my hair, products in and style it etc but instead it's just tied back. I don't have the time or the money to do and spending money on products etc is a luxury. I have very thick, very coarse hair that is extremely curly and a nightmare to look after, hence just having to tie it back.

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:40

@brizzlemint you're lucky that you can just tie your hair back. I can't. I have a certain type of Afro hair and I can't just tie it back because it's not long enough. Trust me on this one. Not sure the two would even be comparable. Great that you have all that time. My son is hard work and I'm really struggling. I have PND, I have anxiety, I just left my abusive ex partner and I'm struggling if we are comparing life stories here. I can't do my hair every day. I have no motivation, I'm exhausted because I'm on new medication which stops me sleeping, and it is essential for me to look vaguely presentable otherwise my self esteem would be lower than it already is (if that's even possible).

You clearly have very little knowledge on the topic. The extensions cost £12, hardly mega money. Not sure why you've got such a problem with my post.

llangennith · 29/04/2019 12:42

OAAN try not to rise to the bait of nasty comments made by mean people on here. I don't have Afro hair or a young baby but I can empathise with you as it clearly is important to you to get your hair sorted.
Your post was about postal delivery, you didn't ask for approval or otherwise for your hair extensions.
I hope they get to you by Wednesday.

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:44

Thanks @llangennith - it's hard not to sometimes. I'm in a really bad place and with PND even a comment from a stranger on the Internet is enough to cause significant upset. Hence why I don't post about personal things on here. Didn't expect to get comments like that on a post about postal deliveries!

OP posts:
llangennith · 29/04/2019 12:48

Certain people should pay heed to the saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 12:51

Maybe post on S&B would be a better place for you than AIBU.

Sorry to hear that you have PND and are struggling, and sorry to have upset you.

OAAN · 29/04/2019 12:54

@brizzlemint yes you're right, I should've known my posting in AIBU gave people automatic rights to be nasty!

Thanks all, will hopefully get my parcel tomorrow. Shall try not to feel too guilty about having my hair done Confused

OP posts:
Cryalot2 · 29/04/2019 13:01

Oaan , hope you get your parcel promptly .
Difficult hair can be stressful.

Good wishes.

rainbowunicorn · 29/04/2019 13:02

OP I have always found that the majority of 1st class mail does arrive the next day unless it has been a bank holiday and Royal Mail are playing catch up. Fingers crossed that it arrives in time for you.
Just ignore the likes of brizzlemint, posters like this seem to appear on every thread that is posted on AIBU just to be nasty, judgemental and argumentative.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 29/04/2019 13:09

Why would your response had been different if she had posted on s&b brizzlemint? aibu isn't a licence to be horrible is it?

This thread was about postage times not should I buy this.

There's no guarantee op but there is a chance it could get there in time. Could you change your appointment to later in the week so it's more likely a definite that it gets there in time.

Next time give yourself a bit more time if you can then it takes the pressure off! Smile

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 13:13

aibu isn't a licence to be horrible is it?

That's always been my experience.
