Dairy Milk tastes just as good to me.

Donning my hard hat and flame proof suit.
I have a feeling it is only me 😣
I have been reading threads for a while now about how horrible Cadbury's chocolate is these days.
Every single time I think, god, I can't bloody taste the difference.
What the hell Blush

They released the vintage versions at Christmas again and I definitely noticed the difference, the new version is sickly and has a horrible texture

Same here, OP!

PuppyMonkey · 29/04/2019 20:27

It’s definitely a different taste, but I still eat it. I tell you what tastes exactly the same as it did in olden times - Fry’s Chocolate Cream. £1 for a pack of 3 in Morrison’s last week.

Bloody love Aldi chocolate too. the Choceur range - yes please.

Cobblersandhogwash · 30/04/2019 07:19

Isn't Cadbury owned by Kraft now? American chocolate is vile.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/04/2019 08:36

American chocolate is vile. I was reading about that, to see if it could just be me, my taste buds. It isn't me or my taste buds.

American chocolate contains butyric acid - also found in Paremsan cheese and vomit

It is a very pronounced taste. Very unpleasant. Yet I know a few people here who cannot taste it - they were quite excited to take our staff room box of Hershey's off our hands!

CornishMaid1 · 30/04/2019 08:47

Hersheys is vile - it has a very strong soap or washing powder taste to me - never knew about the butyric acid so I wonder if it is that I taste.

I will eat 'cheap' chocolate if I am desperate and want it (I don't count Aldi and Lidl choc in that as some of theirs is actually very good). I do prefer the better quality chocolate though.

Hotel Chocolat for me is currently the best, but then they use less sugar and a lot more cocoa in them which is why they end up more expensive.

bluebellforest · 30/04/2019 09:03

Wow! Can't believe American chocolate contains butyric acid.
I remember going to America in the early 90's and thinking that Hersheys tasted like sick 🤢
That explains it.

I still can easily munch through a kilo in one sitting! Tastes lovely to me still

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 30/04/2019 09:05

I still like it and will still eat it but I've noticed a difference in the quality. It's more greasy and not as creamy. The main thing that's changed is the Creme eggs.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/04/2019 09:23

Green & blacks use palm oil too now I think

They don't use palm oil in their chocolate but they DO use it in their chocolate spread and their butterscotch.

MindyStClair · 30/04/2019 09:27

I haven't had Dairy Milk for a while, but last time I did, it wasn't so much the taste as the texture that was an issue. It felt kind of waxy, and not at all melt in the mouth.

Galaxy is still OK, but I'm certain that chocolate used to taste better when it was in a foil wrapper! (gah, I'm old).

SammySamSam09 · 30/04/2019 09:30

I love it still. More than I should which is why I'm back on my diet 😂

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/04/2019 09:33

I haven't touched Dairy Milk - or anything made by Cadbury - since Kraft/Mondelez took them over.

I used to love Galaxy but don't touch that either now they use palm oil.

I quite like Aldi's Moser Roth and Green & Blacks and Montezuma. I find Lindt just ok. Shame that Thorntons have gone downhill. When I was a kid they were considered really posh and expensive. Getting chocolate from Thorntons was a special treat!

Hotel Chocolat are a little too sweet for me (used to like them but they seem to have got sweeter as they've gone more mass market?).

I like Leonidas and Neuhaus, but Godiva less so (another company that has gone mass market and seems to have compromised quality to do so).

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/04/2019 09:36

It’s horrible Sad. There are other options (Aldi chocolate is ok) but don’t link stuff link Lindt or Swiss chocolate and I really miss the distinctive Cadbury taste. Not the monstrosity they currently sell. I still eat it out of desperation as if I concentrate really hard I can almost taste how it used to be Sad.

Orangecake123 · 30/04/2019 09:38

I can't taste the difference either!!

Ritter sport is my new favourite and I loved Green and blacks milk chocolate.

Sweetbabycheezits · 30/04/2019 09:53

Discovered Aldi chocolate a few months ago, and I won't eat anything else now. Tastes amazing, really cheap for a 200g bar and no palm oil!!
