To want to buy a cheap but good hoover

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 19:05

(I did post elsewhere but had no replies)

I have a cordless bagless stick hoover and it’s got worse over time, what it does pick up falls out when you switch it off
It doesn’t pick up hair at all but I like the small design so thinking corded but small?
I have spent ages on review sites because I only want to spend £50 but seems that most cheap hoovers are just not worth it and don’t pickup pet hair - the one thing I need

Do I bite the bullet and pay more or does a cheap but good vacuum exist?

Get a Henry and you won't regret it, I wish I had bought one years ago after trying various Dysons etc Smile

rabbitheadlights · 28/04/2019 19:07

Not cheap but there are often offers to be had... I don't think Henry can be beaten on performance

Shootingstar1115 · 28/04/2019 19:08

Have you considered buying one on a payment plan? Shark and vax do them I believe. IMO a vacuum under £50 wouldn’t be very good (but u have two messy kids and a white dog who constantly sheds). Have you thought about second hand, Facebook selling sites maybe?

ASilhouetteAndNothingMore · 28/04/2019 19:09

I've had a vax reach for just over 2 years, it's really good, half the price of a Dyson.

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 19:11

I had a henry and sold it when I got this one!
Henry was always taking the paint off all the door frames where he would drunkenly career into it way too fast if you pulled him along
Also the D.C. said it was too heavy to use on the stairs if I asked them to hoover. Henry and uprights are out I think

Have a look at reconditioned ones?

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 19:13

Is a low end shark any good either?
I have seen refurbed shark and Dyson and the original Dyson is on Wowcher for £100

I bought a £50 Argos ‘basics’ Hoover to keep upstairs - it’s fab! Noisy, power lead is a bit short as is the hose attachment, but it does battle with dirt, dust & dog hairs (white collie) admirably! Think it might’ve gone up to £55-£60 now, but still great value imo.

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 19:22

Thanks I will look!
I looked for Henry and a screwfix one came up also a karcher at half the price of a henry. Now I am not sure what to get

Titan from Screwfix. It's bagged but completely worth it.

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 19:31

Can’t believe it’s £44!

I just bought s shark last week from Argos. £149.99. it's a corded one and brilliant. Just love it.

I had a Dyson cordless. Load of rubbish. It's now three years old and just doesn't cut the mustard. Had a Vax which I've thrown out as smells really really badly of burning when I turned it on.

I'm delighted with my corded shark. 8metre cord on it

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 20:26

So they aren’t just hype?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/04/2019 20:27

Titans are brilliant. I bought one to deal with our building dust and like it more than the Dyson. The bag is a pain though

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 20:33

I spent £300 on a Dyson last year and it was the worst decision I ever made!

Half the time it doesn't pick up anything and it cant handle any hair. Not to mention it cant move on a carpet with any type of pile!! Its caused so many arguments with DP cause I didn't listen to him when he said the reviews were terrible Blush

My £50 Vax was much better!

Bluefargo · 28/04/2019 20:37

I got a Miele classic C1 for about 100 - it's the best vacuum cleaner we've ever had. Powerful but nice and light. I hated my cordless dyson.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 28/04/2019 20:37

I LOVE my Vax. Was £90 and absolutely worth every penny and more

isseywithcats · 28/04/2019 20:57

having been a dyson fan since they came out until i bought my last one two years ago i would have defended dysons to the death, but they are rubbish now the quality and robustness has gone, so when this one died i went for the £99 Vax from argos its brilliant really powerful, the hose attachment is a bit fiddly but i love it

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/04/2019 21:10

Shark cordless is my recommendation

PookieDo · 28/04/2019 21:20

I still have no hoover 😂

Questions: what is the battery like on the shark? Is corded more powerful?
Is the Titan heavy? Why is the bag fiddly?

Thanks!

I got a Vax in the sale and it's pretty decent. I have to clean it regularly but it does a good job

Herland · 28/04/2019 21:26

I'm going to second Miele. I faffed about with cheaper hoovers for years that would be fine for a while then be really shit. My Miele is AMAZING. Really powerful. It uses bags which I love because I have allergies. Not cheap but I got mine in the sale at Curries.

Ihatehashtags · 28/04/2019 21:28

Cheap and good generally don’t go together with vacuum cleaners. I love my Electrolux pet. It’s so light and does a really good job.

Bonkersblond · 28/04/2019 21:35

My best vacuum so far has been a Vax but sadly after 5 years with just a couple of replacement filters it’s died, have a Shark being delivered tomorrow, didn’t go cordless though as have quite a big house and would frustrate me if it ran out, great reviews on Amazon and good price £300 down to £150.

Cryalot2 · 28/04/2019 21:36

Depends on what you need.
Cordless, lightweight, upright, pet hairs ect.
Vax and Henry are good. I would love a gtech air ram but way beyond budget. We have a Henry, but it is so heavy. Have a vax steam mop and based on it I think Vax are great.
