To want to buy a cheap but good hoover

(I did post elsewhere but had no replies)

I have a cordless bagless stick hoover and it’s got worse over time, what it does pick up falls out when you switch it off
It doesn’t pick up hair at all but I like the small design so thinking corded but small?
I have spent ages on review sites because I only want to spend £50 but seems that most cheap hoovers are just not worth it and don’t pickup pet hair - the one thing I need

Do I bite the bullet and pay more or does a cheap but good vacuum exist?

I would have to put it on a credit card if it’s over £50 and I really don’t want to do that (0% on purchases but not the point)
Partly as I really need other stuff and £150 for a hoover seems crazy for something you use a few times a week BUT I currently have really grotty floors because even a broom isn’t worth bothering with just moves it all around!

I might go for the ugly builders hoover 😂

Just to add my 'big' hoover is a Sebo and is 15 years old, still going strong! I did buy a Shark corded but hated it - awkward, heavy, didn't suck up to the edges on the sides, annoying hose retracting as you're trying to use it so constantly battling against the auto-recall thing - gave up in the end, bought the £50 cheapie from Argos and gave the Shark to MIL!
