To ask what you do with the ends of your bread?

Just that, really. I used to give them to the birds until I learnt that bread isn't good for birds, and they're a bit too dry to eat as part of a sandwich or toast, so what do you do? Just chucking them in food recycling seems wasteful. Have I been missing something obvious? Am I being too picky and should be eating them anyway?

Closetlibrarian · 27/04/2019 15:11

Prefer the ends to dip in stew.

Taswama · 27/04/2019 15:13

I put in the freezer and use for beans on toast when I realise we have run out of potatoes and that was plan A for DC supper.
You could also break into largish chunks and bake in oven on a low temp for an hour then whizz into breadcrumbs. I did this pre dc.

BetsyBigNose · 27/04/2019 15:13

They make the best toast for beans on toast, cos they can absorb loads of extra butter!

Singlenotsingle · 27/04/2019 15:13

Bread pudding. (But you need an egg, milk, vanilla essence, melted butter and sugar)!

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2019 15:14

Toast! We fight over them in our house.

Everydaypeople · 27/04/2019 15:14

Eat it! We used to fight for this as children as it was the best bit, ootie it was called. I can’t believe you’ve been binning them

cardibach · 27/04/2019 15:14

How is any piece of bread too dry to toast? Crusts are great for toast, as it happens. With loads of butter, as PP have said.

StrawberrySquash · 27/04/2019 15:15

Good for dipping in soup. I also breadcrumb stale bread. I always have a bag in the freezer of breadcrumbs. Also croutons are good; dice, toss in oil, bake. Add to soup or salad.

rabbitheadlights · 27/04/2019 15:15

Either butter and eat as is if fresh crusty bread ... Or toast and lather in butter and eat .... Best bit of a loaf everyone fights over the heal in our house

Moltenpink · 27/04/2019 15:15

Stick them in the food processor, make breadcrumbs and freeze. Use for breaded chicken, fish or stuffing straight from frozen.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 27/04/2019 15:16

Eat them! Like others have said, it makes great toast.

Nonononon · 27/04/2019 15:16

Cheese on toast.

Clevs · 27/04/2019 15:17

Breadcrumbs!

Gth1234 · 27/04/2019 15:17

Either eat them or throw them. It's only a few pence and loaves are heaper than rolls anyway. I like them.

XiCi · 27/04/2019 15:17

Everyone fights over them for toast. How can they be too dry to toast Grin

AfterSchoolWorry · 27/04/2019 15:18

I eats 'em.

HoppityChicken · 27/04/2019 15:20

Favourite bit, I eat them straight away, neat, yum!

Emmabryant123 · 27/04/2019 15:20

Toast it 😁

pigsDOfly · 27/04/2019 15:21

I use them as I would a slice of bread in a sandwich.

Thegoodthere · 27/04/2019 15:22

Ooh, thanks all! I like the sound of bread pudding. And soup dip. And maybe jammy toast. I'm not a fan of beans Envy on toast but DC is, so will try that next time.

I just can't imagine enough butter to counterbalance the extra-dryness of end bread Grin

If fresh baked bread they are devoured with butter.

If supermarket we bin them, though the oven breadcrumb idea sounds good as would always have a ready supply of breadcrumbs in the freezer.
