To want a bidet / jet in my new bathroom

I am British but have family in Asia where it is more the norm not to rely on toilet paper and to use water to clean yourself after using the loo. I’ve seen jet sprays kind of like mini shower hoses by the toilet and even jets which come from in the toilet (less keen). Haven’t seen a proper bidet for years and not sure that’s up my street.

I find toilet paper inadequate and love a fresh clean feeling. I used the Andrex toilet wipes for a bit but have since been led to believe they are not very environmentally friendly so don’t buy them now.

I’d quite like something like the water jet by the toilet - just moved into new house and getting bathroom completely re done so could have whatever I want.

I do know someone who has this actually it she is older and from aforementioned Asian country.

Anyone else?

They had these by the pool in Sri Lanka(pool toilets) , disgusting, people hosing their bums off , spraying shit all up the wall, so grim… we called it the bum hose!

tarziew · 26/01/2023 20:47

Yeah I don’t know how I’d feel about using a public one tbh.

Hell yes. I lived in East Asia (Japan / Korea) for a while and totally fell in love with this concept.

We're getting our bathroom done up in a couple of months and getting a bum gun fitted - sadly the bathroom isn't big enough for a bidet and I can't afford one of the all-singing / all-dancing Japanese super-loos, so this is my middle ground.

(We'll just have to dry off with loo roll, no additional space for bum towels.)

@2020ihavenoname That's great advice but 2-3 years late!

@tarziew do you need to wipe before using the bum gun? I just clean with water then use toilet paper to dry although you might want to avoid that part if it irritates you.

tarziew · 27/01/2023 22:00

I wipe with paper then rinse the tissue residue off then air dry. It’s worked wonders so far, my irritation has almost gone.

When this thread was new I said I was getting Japanese toilet when change bathroom. I didn't do that but I did move to house with bidet and it's fantastic. So refreshing! Would still love a Japanese toilet through...

Doesn't poo-y water go all over the seat

Well no because you only squirt it at your anus. The water goes in the toilet.

Doesn’t it wash pooey water down towards your urethra?

Fuck I've led a sheltered life. 😱

In Japan every toilet has features, washing, drying, white noise, lid lifting, auto flush, seat heating etc.

Oh, don't you go to the toilet. I thought everyone did.

Cococomellonn · 28/01/2023 09:15

@tarziew I just thought maybe you don't need paper at all in that case as I find the water is enough to clean (especially if paper irritates you) but sounds like you've found a way that works for you

tarziew · 28/01/2023 09:18

I definitely do for number two but if it’s just a wee, a quick blast of the jet is enough. 😊

I meant that I'd never heard of all these amazing options. Never travelled much, never these set-ups before.

But thanks for your post.
