To hate most kids clothes these days (lighthearted)

Babies and toddlers in ripped jeans, demon jackets, leather jackets and girls with huge bow headbands on to loudly proclaim THIS BABY IS A FEMALE CHILD. It looks ridiculous. Leggings, slogans, it's just all so tacky. I hate most kids clothes I see. It's so ugly.

Anyone else?

I agree with on most of that. It's making them old before their time. It's really really hard to avoid slogan T-shirts for boys over 2 as almost everywhere has loads of them. The only thing I don't is on leggings. They are a good comfy option in the warmer weather. Especially for girls under dresses/long tops

IceRebel · 27/04/2019 08:18

I dislike headbands on any young child, as I think they must be super uncomfortable.

However as for any other clothes, so long as a child is comfortable and the clothes are practical for playing in I couldn't care less about slogans or the material they're made out of.

TeenTitans · 27/04/2019 08:18

Yes the boys t shirts are a real pain. The clothes look like they're teenagers going to magaluf not little kids.

Yes I avoid most high street stuff and get Frugi, Kite, Maxomorra etc second hand as they are such lovely colourful child like brands.

GetsIt · 27/04/2019 08:21

I was having this rant yesterday after seeing Denim hotpants and mini dungaree dresses with nineties style ribbed, turtle neck crop tops under them.... For 1 year olds

KateyKube · 27/04/2019 08:22

Boys clothes on the high street are awful. Dull sludgy colours, too much blue, too many dinosaurs and cars, no interesting prints. I buy all my DS’s clothes online from Scandi and Aussie brands - he has turquoise leggings with narwhals printed on them, giraffe patterned pyjamas, dungarees with multicoloured fish, jumpers with green snails and yellow ducks... No idea why the high street can’t produce something more interesting!

Hahaha88 · 27/04/2019 08:22

@GetsIt urgh!!!! That's nasty

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/04/2019 08:23

As Emrys said... Frugi, Kite, Dunns, Picalilli, etc. Absolutely fine to buy second hand too, it lasts brilliantly.

Frugi have a sale on at the moment, if you want new.

Hahaha88 · 27/04/2019 08:24

@KateyKube if you want to sell them on when he's outgrown them Wink waves

Justanothernamechange2 · 27/04/2019 08:24

I agree. Theres a river island kids in the closest city to me + the window display always just screams "how to whore out your baby".. toddlers do not need rips and chains on their clothes and definitely do not need handbags and heels!

BloodyMothers · 27/04/2019 08:24

@KateyKube

Where from?

harrietkatie · 27/04/2019 08:25

Totally agree. Young girls with denim hot pants and cropped tops?? No thanks.

My son is 7, we tend to get him stuff from John Lewis. X

There are some awful kids clothes but equally loads of lovely ones. You just need to look harder and probably spend more (there is a reason JoJo and Boden are popular).

I have found it harder to get cheap clothes for nursery now my daughter is in the biggest age range. H&M has become my new go-to.

DeadButDelicious · 27/04/2019 08:26

Got to agree with you on this (except leggings, leggings are a nice alternative to tights in cool weather). I always try to buy DD practical, fun stuff in a range of colours. She doesn't need to look like a mini grown up.

Where I live there seems to be a trend towards swathes of pink when the child is a girl. Pink prams, bedecked in pink blankets, even pink faux fur trim in winter, pink toys and a giant pink bow on their head just so everyone can be absolutely certain that this child is in fact, a girl. Hmm

Elllicam · 27/04/2019 08:28

@kateykube what sites do you buy from? I’m looking for stuff for my 4 little boys.

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/04/2019 08:29

Head to JoJo Maman Bebe and Joules, some lovely stuff in there! I think Next are good for babies too.

Bluewall · 27/04/2019 08:30

I am currently trying to find dungarees for my toddler boy which are not navy blue or grey. I hate gping into the shops and there are bright colour and patterns for girls and grey black and navy for boys ! Asda are the worst for that.

I do manage to find non slogan t-shirts etc but you often need to go for more expensive brands.

Also I honestly can't see how people see a baby with a massive bow on its head and think that's cute !! The other thing I don't get is when babies are decked head to toe in pale blue or pink including pram blankets and decorations etc Ok we get it it's a boy !

user1493242132 · 27/04/2019 08:30

Zara and John Lewis sales are good for keeping them like they should be

BarbarAnna · 27/04/2019 08:30

But I also can’t stand little kids trussed up in Boden or fancy clothes. I know one poor little boy who often wears a bow tie and his sister always has outfits of bright tights, dress, top, matching hair accessory, knee boots. All expensive and slightly ridiculous for a small child.

My kids wore plain tops and leggings without trying to make any kind of statement, until they were old enough to start choosing. They sometimes pick some horrors, but hey ho.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 27/04/2019 08:31

We struggle to find clothes for DD12. She can either dress like a 5 year old in pink sparkly rainbow unicorns or she can dress like a hooker in a bum flashing mini skirt and tit flapping crop top.
Shes opted for 'boys' joggers ...

KittyWindbag · 27/04/2019 08:31

I love leggings, they’re so practical and comfortable for babies (and for me).

I can’t stand the drab colours and wannabe sophisticated silhouettes on children though. They are children! Let them wear bright colors and fun designs. My son wears a lot of joyful colours and nothing makes me happier.

user1493413286 · 27/04/2019 08:32

I kept my baby in babygrows until she was pretty much walking as they impeded her moving and got so many comments about her being in pyjamas, ummm no she’s a baby and therefore in a baby grow

TeenTitans · 27/04/2019 08:34

Yep i tend to buy from JoJo, John Lewis, Boden and Rachel Riley. Obviously more expensive but the clothes last and my kids pass them down to each other

You think it’s bad for toddlers? Wait till they are over 5! I nearly cried when ds got to old for JoJo! After that it’s downhill rapidly for clothes.

He’s 10 now and I buy a mixture of GAP (very hit and miss), Joules/ Boden (but he’s outgrowing their styles), and John Lewis. You can’t always get them second hand as boys of this age are hard on their clothes, so it’s an expensive business!
