And which recipe for homemade ice-tea you like most?

Flyingfish2019 · 26/04/2019 22:47

Is it really called iced tea? English is not my native language. Looked it up now. Wiki say both is okay???

mouldyhousemouldylife · 26/04/2019 22:50

When I Google ice tea all the results say iced tea.

Voice0fReason · 26/04/2019 22:57

I love iced tea. Brew it in a large jug with a few spoons of sugar. Then cool it with cold water and ice. Keeps for a few days in the fridge.
Very refreshing.

Moanranger · 26/04/2019 23:00

I make my own - unsweetened ALWAYS! Sun tea, 1 bag of black tea & 1 bag of mint tea in a clear 2l jug, fill with cold water & put in sun to brew, takes a few hours. Remove tea bags & chill in fridge. Sun brewing keeps it from being cloudy & also not bitter.

CupOhTea · 26/04/2019 23:03

I bloody love ice tea. I like it sweet, but not too sweet. So maybe a teaspoon of sugar per cup.

I hate it unsweetened, which is strange, as I do like black tea, hot, without sugar... maybe it’s because it reminds me too much of tea that’s gone cold.

Dh always has milk in his hot tea and he loves unsweetened ice tea. Maybe he doesn’t have the same association.

CupOhTea · 26/04/2019 23:04

Oh whatever, iced tea, ice tea meh

Snuffalo · 26/04/2019 23:05

You need the right tea bags (www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/Luzianne-Iced-Family-Sized-Bags/dp/B000LLKB9I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?s=grocery&qid=1556315988&refinements=p_4%3ALuzianne&sr=1-1%29&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-am-i-being-unreasonable-3570536-AIBU-to-ask-you-if-you-like-ice-tea" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/Luzianne-Iced-Family-Sized-Bags/dp/B000LLKB9I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1556315988&refinements=p_4%3ALuzianne&s=grocery&sr=1-1) and you need to NOT make ‘sun tea’ as it’s a bacterial time bomb. You also need to serve it with a full glass of ice and another glass to top it up as it melts. You can have it sweet or unsweetened but if it’s sweetened you have to add the sugar while it’s still hot before you refrigerate it. I’m from Tennessee, please ignore everyone else as they have no idea.

@Cupoftea: I thought you liked it when I read your username.

Grin I didn’t even think of that! I do bloody love tea, in all its forms.

Prequelle · 26/04/2019 23:08

I don't drink ice tea the way a lot of southern US folks seem to do, with lots of added sugar

I just basically get a nice herbal tea, let it get to room temp then put in fridge. Serve with a shed load of ice. Some of the fruity ones are lovely this way

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 26/04/2019 23:09

Do the bottles of Lipton peach or lemon flavour drink count? I like them*

That's the kind I like too!

origamiunicorn · 26/04/2019 23:11

No, gross. Think you have to be, I dunno, Spanish? American??? To like it.

...or nationality has nothing to do with it?! Brit here, love ice tea, Lipton's peach is amazing. Other brands are available. Grin

ImTheRealHFella · 26/04/2019 23:12

Love it. Am a tea addict anyway.

Make my own as I don't like it too sweet. Cold brewed to prevent that bitterness. One tea bag, plus fresh mint, lemon juice and a little sweetener, Stevia works well.

Sometimes I brew the tea plain and make full sugar peach syrup to add to it.... delicious.

Geraniumpink · 26/04/2019 23:13

Homemade peach iced tea is lovely. Only homemade iced coffee can rival it.

Flyingfish2019 · 26/04/2019 23:18

@GeraniumPink: How do prepare do it? Do you buy the juice or make it from peaches?

OP posts:
Geraniumpink · 26/04/2019 23:22

I cobbled together my own recipe from sugar, a couple of ripe gently stewed peaches (cooled and strained) black tea and ice.

Tillygetsit · 26/04/2019 23:23

I'm a Brit and Iced tea is my drink of choice in summer. Yum!

Pinkkahori · 26/04/2019 23:27

I love it. I buy ready made lemon iced tea in the summer and sometimes make my own.
When I was pregnant with dc2 I had HG and i kept getting dehydrated. I couldn't tolerate even sips of water but then I remembered that I used to love Lipton lemon iced tea and i tried it. It kept me out of hospital.

Doobigetta · 26/04/2019 23:29

Yes, I love it. Both the Liptons kind and the proper kind made with black tea, lemons and sugar and chilled. And I was born in Yorkshire and I have never drunk a cup of milky English style hot tea- the smell reminds me of sweaty tights and makes me heave.

timeisnotaline · 26/04/2019 23:34

I thought the only acceptable answer was of course!

On my life goals list is to just make a jug every weekend in summer and sit there sipping it Grin

aibutohavethisusername · 27/04/2019 00:01

English & love Iced tea.

steff13 · 27/04/2019 03:27

We live on iced tea. I use Luzianne gallon size tea bags, steep with about 1/2 gallon of hot water, then when it's steeped I fill the pitcher with cold water and ice. No sugar.

SenecaFalls · 27/04/2019 03:46

I grew up, and still live in the Southern US, so yes, I like iced tea. My preference is very lightly sugared, with lots of lemon.

SenecaFalls · 27/04/2019 03:51

In the southern US in restaurants, you have to specify whether you want it sweetened or unsweetened. The sweet will usually be very sweet, so I always order it unsweetened and add my own half packet of sugar.

To quote Truvy in Steel Magnolias, "it's the house wine of the South."

Purpleartichoke · 27/04/2019 03:53

Unsweetened black tea over ice is bliss. Can’t stand the sweet stuff.
