C section numbness.

Hey, posting for traffic, sorry.
I had my second c section yesterday, and tbh, I feel great, already at home.
I'm barely in any pain at all, I can get up and down the stairs pretty fast and just feel almost myself.
So, just thought I'd have a feel of the surgery site, and I'm completely numb. My husband touched me and still nothing. Is this common? Will it go away? Just stressed.

Echoing everyone. Very normal! I have 2 separate scars and I'm 8 months post my second c section and even forgot that it goes numb!! It definitely has gone away for me

Sosososotired · 26/04/2019 18:18

Don’t worry, it’s completely normal! You may feel numb for months, and some people never regain full sensation. I’ve had 3 c sections and regained pretty much full sensation every time, but only after about a year! I still have a tiny numb patch just above my scar 2 years after my last. It takes the nerves a long time to recover.

spaniorita · 26/04/2019 18:41

I still have numbness just above my c-section scar from nearly 8 years ago. Just a small patch.

Crabbitstick · 26/04/2019 18:56

Completely normal.

Take it easy though. Even though you feel ‘fine’ your body has undergone massive surgery and it’s easy to set your recovery back. I moved too much after first section because it felt fine, really the anaesthetic hadn’t properly worn off. Ended up in a lot of pain days 2/3 after. Second time round I went very slowly and had a good recovery.

Pilates is very good for recovery (after about ten weeks) - no sit-ups!

Congratulations on your baby Flowers

It’s normal , I have a numb patch on my leg too

Lauren83 · 26/04/2019 19:07

Mines still numb across the scar 15 months on, had a section last year and the recovery was great I was out within 24 hours too and out and about after a day at home, due another section in a few weeks so hoping it's the same this time too

bratzilla · 26/04/2019 19:10

I had one 6 years ago and my scar and my caesarean pouch is still completely numb, the only feeling I get is the scar itches occasionally!

pastaparadise · 26/04/2019 19:10

I have a small strip of numbness over the scar, 3 years on from c section 2. Helps when i have a bikini wax but does feel a bit strange!

agnurse · 26/04/2019 19:12

This is likely normal. I had my gallbladder removed and had numbness in areas around my incisions for months afterward. Sometimes the sensation returns, sometimes it doesn't. I agree that the likely cause is nerve damage.

You may wish to mention it at your next checkup, just to be safe, but it is likely normal.

Neverender · 26/04/2019 19:12

Normal and you'll get used to it. I have a weird numb section and DD is 2.5yrs nearly. Honestly, it just becomes the new normal.

MitziK · 26/04/2019 19:12

Had my section in 1992.

It's still numb half an inch either side all the way along it.

Shootingstar1115 · 26/04/2019 19:14

Totally normal! It’s only been a day. Numbness can last for weeks or months or even years.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 26/04/2019 19:15

It takes a while to fade away and for the nerves to knit back.

Downthecanal · 26/04/2019 19:16

Congratulations!

Mine still feels weird/numb three years later. I think they shred the nerve endings

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 26/04/2019 19:23

Two years in and mine is numb on the right hand side. Dont worry!

bonzo77 · 26/04/2019 19:23

Normal. Will improve. I’ve had 3. Interestingly, each time I ended up numb to a similar degree immediately after, and it settled to the same degree further down the line. I’m now 3.5 years post the 3rd one and I think it’s still gradually improving. Sensation below the scar is normal, numb above it about 2 inches in the middle tapering to not at all at each end.

vampirethriller · 26/04/2019 19:27

Mine is still a bit numb after 5 months. It's getting better but still feels strange.

Singlewhiteguineapig · 26/04/2019 19:30

The numbness improves over time but never goes away completely. But it doesn’t really matter

justjuggling · 26/04/2019 19:32

I’ve had 2 c-sections (13 & 10 years ago) and still have a little numb patch below the scar line! X

glueandstick · 26/04/2019 19:33

Mine was nearly 4 years ago and I’m still pretty much numb for about 5 inches below my scar and only get full feeling back at my shins...

Quietlife333 · 26/04/2019 19:36

Still numb for a good 2 inches above the scar after 8 years. I had a conversation with someone who also has this and we were saying it’s a good job the numbness always seems to go upwards towards the belly button not down towards your bits!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 26/04/2019 19:39

I’m still numb 3 years later!

Bluntness100 · 26/04/2019 19:40

My daughter is 21 and I am still numb. I wasn't after it was done though and it hurt for quite a while, but I think it was the stitched areas inside that hurt, not outside. I think there is nine layers of stitching.Outside was always numb I suspect.

I would also say go easy, just because you can't feel it, doesn't mean it's not healing, and fragile.

bluechameleon · 26/04/2019 19:57

Make sure you don't do too much, it is easy to overdo it and end up in pain the next day.

Rarfy · 26/04/2019 19:59

Completely normal. If you're on blood clot injections jab them in there! I'm almost 4 month on and still fairly numb.
