C section numbness.

Hey, posting for traffic, sorry.
I had my second c section yesterday, and tbh, I feel great, already at home.
I'm barely in any pain at all, I can get up and down the stairs pretty fast and just feel almost myself.
So, just thought I'd have a feel of the surgery site, and I'm completely numb. My husband touched me and still nothing. Is this common? Will it go away? Just stressed.

Totally normal! I was totally numb where my scar is for weeks if not months afterwards. Even 2 years on I would say it’s not as back to normal, I don’t know if it ever will be. Also remember being numb at the very top of my thighs in line with my scar, which felt odd! But the feeling has now returned there now.

Congratulations! I had two EMCS about 11 and 14 years ago and some numbness on the scar area has stayed. It's not unusual but speak to your health visitor/doctor for reassurance.

Mammylamb · 26/04/2019 16:16

Hi, I’m the worlds biggest wimp but was fine after a c section. So suspect I had numbness too. It’s gone now though

Liland · 26/04/2019 16:16

Don't stress, rest! Had my first section (first baby too) 3 months ago and I'm still numb. Think its meant to be nerve damage which may or may not recover anywhere upto a couple of years. At least it's not painful nerve damage though, which can happen, it just feels weird.

The numbness is common enough, I know one woman with and one without it irl, for all the section women I know.

Livedandlearned · 26/04/2019 16:16

My c section is still numb 17 years later!

crankyassnoperope · 26/04/2019 16:17

Yeah, I had this after both c sections. With the first I was numb on my lower abdomen for a few months before it was almost completely normal again. After the second it stopped feeling noticeably weird much quicker, and I do have completely normal sensation there now.

Drum2018 · 26/04/2019 16:17

7 years on and still numb after 4 sections. It's normal. But can I just ask you to please take it easy - don't be up and down the stairs and doing stuff. You are after major surgery and need to sit and rest, otherwise you could seriously hinder your recovery. Congrats on new baby. 👶

Osirus · 26/04/2019 16:17

Mine’s numb still. 3 years later!

emeraldmoon · 26/04/2019 16:17

I had an emergency c section 3 years ago and still have very slight numbness around my scar and lower tummy.

TheTrollFairy · 26/04/2019 16:17

Numbness is very common. They have cut through a lot of nerve endings.
My SIL recovered from her 2nd c-section much quicker than her EMACs

I’m going to sound like a nag but please go careful, you have just had major surgery (similar surgery would have you resting for 6 weeks were it not the fact of having a baby)

Congratulations on your little one Flowers

Mumof3ca · 26/04/2019 16:18

Hi I was exactly the same after my c section about a week or 2 after the numbness went away but then I got and infection on the wound cz I was doing to much and was told to rest ,

Merryoldgoat · 26/04/2019 16:19

Totally normal. I’m still quite numb a year on.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/04/2019 16:20

I am still numb in places, 12years on. It came back after the first section but not after the second.

Lllot5 · 26/04/2019 16:21

Not had c section but when I had hysterectomy the tops of my legs were numb for about six months.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/04/2019 16:23

Numb for months and I hated it. Feeling came back though.

OutInTheCountry · 26/04/2019 16:25

Mine got better but the actual scar and the bit above is still numb. Please take it easy though, it’s great that you’re feeling good but you’ve just had surgery. Oh, and congratulations!

BigButtons · 26/04/2019 16:26

I had 2 sections -19 and 20 years ago. I am still numb around the scar tissue. Nerves have been cut so I am guessing this is normal.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 26/04/2019 16:29

I have had 4 sections. All completely different recovery wise. No3 the pain was horrific for some reason, day 4 in particular. That was the one that I was up and about the quickest with. Like you could do stairs etc the day after and I really think it was because I was taking my recovery for granted and pushed myself too much.

HappyGirl86 · 26/04/2019 16:35

My little girl is 3, and I'm getting most of the feeling back now- I'd say in the last 6 months. There is still a small area that I don't think will ever come back.
I asked my GP and he said it's perfectly normal to never get the feeling back.

outsho · 26/04/2019 16:37

I had mine almost 6 months ago and it’s still numb. I have heard it may permanently be numb, may come back after month or even years.

I was in a lot of pain after mine and struggled to move for the first week. Don’t over-do it, you can hinder recovery.

Kittykatmacbill · 26/04/2019 16:38

Congratulations! Was totally numb after my first, then 19m csection 2 and the numb area was pretty much reduced to nothing.

Buggeritimgettingup · 26/04/2019 16:41

I'm still numb in one part of my lower belly jusy above bikini line 17 years later!

DartmoorDoughnut · 26/04/2019 16:45

Yep totally normal

BowiesJumper · 26/04/2019 16:46

I've still got a tiny bit of numbness (3.5yrs later) too, much less than immediately after the op, but still there. Doesn't bother me!

ProfessorofPerspective · 26/04/2019 17:30

I've had 3 sections; my eldest is 26. The feeling has never quite come back!
