Terraced house.
SW London.
Flymo.
Will take about 20 mins.

If not, what time is ok?

speakout · 22/04/2019 09:51

9am is fine. 7am would be too early.

Dieu · 22/04/2019 09:51

Sorry, that should read 'her washing machine is directly above my bedroom'.

diddl · 22/04/2019 09:52

I think legally you can start at 8am on a BH can't you?

If you happen to know that your neighbours aren't up, then it would be kind to wait.

I suppose it might depend on what time you usually get up as to whether or not 9am is a lie in?

Here in Germany it's a no to noise all day today-as it was yesterday.

NoParticularPattern · 22/04/2019 09:55

9am is mid morning in this house! Sorry everyone! Always has been even before children!! I’d not think twice about starting at 8 on a BH. It’s not like you’re exactly deprived of them, you’ve just had one followed by a whole weekend.

zukiecat · 22/04/2019 09:58

Absolutely fine by me

Just a normal working day here, kids in school, everywhere open apart from the GP Surgery

TeacupDrama · 22/04/2019 09:59

here is a link to some domestic not business guidelines

depending on the type of noise it is generally not before 7am or after 8pm
and on Sundays bank holidays not before 9am or after 8pm

some types of noise are permissible upto 10pm and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays

www.epa.vic.gov.au/your-environment/noise/residential-noise/prohibited-times-for-residential-noise

so now is fine

mabelsgarden · 22/04/2019 10:00

@KingscoteStaff

Definitely after 10am. It's a bank holiday.

You should be mowing it in the evening anyway really. It doesn't do it any good to mow it in the morning or during the day.

Best to do it in the evening (between 6pm and 9pm.)

@zukiecat

Where are you if everyone is at work today, and the kids are at school? Confused

Grumpasaurus · 22/04/2019 10:02

Is it just me who likes the sounds of kids playing and lawnmowers (agree after 9 though).

There is just something so decidedly lively and summery about it! To me they are sounds of happiness.

KingscoteStaff · 22/04/2019 10:02

Aaaaaaand we’re off.

My 9 and 12 year old are still asleep but it’s gone 10 so crack on now. Thanks for being so considerate 💐

I'm in NE Scotland

It's just an ordinary day here

GreenTulips · 22/04/2019 10:07

3 teens all in bed! I wouldn’t thank you for a 9am lawn mowing sess either

Celebelly · 22/04/2019 10:09

Yeah I'm in NE Scotland too. Monday isn't a holiday here, only the Friday.

I never do disruptive stuff until after 10. I just think it's courteous to allow people a bit of a lie in. We have nice quiet neighbours so we are all quite respectful of each other.

ForalltheSaints · 22/04/2019 10:12

Do you know your neighbours and any signs that they are up and about? If so, YANBU to mow. Though I would wait until later for all dew to evaporate.

Differentcorner · 22/04/2019 10:13

Unreasonable? No unnecessary yes

BarbedBloom · 22/04/2019 10:14

I would say 10am as I need to power wash my patio and am waiting until 11am as it is still very quiet around here. Not for my neighbour upstairs who plays music at 4am, but for anyone else enjoying some sleep. I got up at 9.15am and if I had heard mowing I wouldn't have been annoyed though

Helplessfeeling · 22/04/2019 10:20

Me, me, me... that some people (including mothers of young children) may want to catch up on sleep, or just start their day with calm and quiet, doesn't come into it?

Well they are being equally self entitled by assuming the rest of the world has to be quiet up until a time they decide is suitable. It works both ways. Me me me indeed!

Invisibleiink · 22/04/2019 10:20

Good point about the dew, is the grass properly dry by 9am? I suppose it must be dry enough if some people do mow then! Dryer the better though.

Damntheman · 22/04/2019 10:24

9 is too early. 10 is much more considerate but the grass will likely still be too wet if you start up too early. Frankly I prefer noon for mowing. Grass is dry and nobody gets upset, not even my night shift neighbour but I suspect she has excellent sound insulation.

KingscoteStaff · 22/04/2019 10:27

All done. Thanks for advice.

All round to your fire cauldron later jasmine, with song sheets.

TSSDNCOP · 22/04/2019 10:28

It’s a Flymo vs a combine right?

Crack on, no one likes a lie in more than chez TSS but we can slumber through a quick once over.

Note to next door but one neighbour: I am NOT relaxing my No Petrol Strimmet at 7:30am rule though.

FlowersInMotion · 22/04/2019 10:28

I like the sound of lawnmowers too, Grumpasaurus. I love peace and quiet and I wouldn't care to hear them 24/7 but there is a very pleasing summery feel for me associated with the sound.

mabelsgarden · 22/04/2019 10:35

Looks like the OP has gone off to mow her lawn!

mabelsgarden · 22/04/2019 10:35

@zukie It's NE Scotland and it's just an ordinary day.

Everywhere open except the GP.

Oh I didn't realise that it's not a bank holiday in Scotland. It's a bank holiday in England though. So I guess the answer to the OP's question depends on where they live.

How come the GP is shut though, if it's not bank holiday there today?

I still think the OP should not mow the lawn til this evening. She has ignored my advice though. Never mind. Sad
