Does the Easter Bunny bring toys to your children?

I am married and have a lovely DSS, he was at our house until yesterday afternoon where the Easter Bunny came and brought his eggs early. He has phoned today asking where his presents are off the Easter Bunny at our house as he brought him a few things at his mum's & some eggs. Can't remember this happening last year but I'm pretty gobsmacked. AIBU to think he only brings eggs? Toys are for Christmas and birthdays!

My mil always buys mine some clothes instead of an egg which I'm really grateful for as we're usually ready for some new spring/summer clothes

I was at an event yesterday where there were a lot of children and one little girl proudly toddled in with an expensive new Smiggle Backpack which was very sparkly and eye catching and a big Build A Bear Easter Bunny on her back which, again was very lovely and eye catching. She was very excited and showing them off to everyone but unfortunately it had the knock on effect of really upsetting some similarly aged children who couldn’t understand why the “Easter Bunny” had brought the little girl such lovely gifts and not them. The other children had all received just chocolate gifts.

Unfortunately there was then a bit of an atmosphere amongst the parents towards the parents of the little girl because their kids were upset and I suppose they felt that it had put added pressure and possibly future expense their way.

I don’t have kids yet and we never did Easter Bunny when I was little but I do hate how everything can get competitive or pressurised now. It’s hard seeing disappointment on kid’s faces, especially when they are too young to understand that they didn’t get more impressive gifts because, for example, their parents couldn’t afford it but they have to watch their peers enjoying their gifts which have been given because they have been “such a good girl”. They automatically assume they aren’t good enough.

I was one of the kids who got amazing toys at Christmas and Birthdays (but rarely got to spend time with my parents) but they were alway very clear that I had to consider other people’s feelings and to only take one small toy with me if I was going to be around other children on Christmas Day or to only say three things that I got when asked so as not to show off or upset someone who got less.

We do a chocolate egg hunt and a small Easter basket each, with little bits like LEGO mini figure blind bags, matchbox cars, make up (cheap) and a book each - DS also got the new Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid book Grin

Usually we’d do either new winter pjs/dressing gown/slippers (coming into winter here) but neither of them needed new this year, so there were probably a couple more things than usual in the baskets.

Actually, it makes more sense to give bikes around this time of year rather than Christmas as the weather is usually so much better.

I have never heard of this before.

Is it a thing?? Really?? I wonder if the Easter bunny is sponsored by Amazon.

I find the extravagant consumerism in our society vulgar. It is bad for the environment, and isn't beneficial to anyone

We don’t do the Easter bunny. I get my dc a small egg and other people give them eggs. My mum goes on about the easter bunny which I find odd as we never celebrated Easter when growing up!

Totally agree. But it's all about #makingmemories with the #famalam so you can Instagram it. Shallow to say the least.

We do the Easter bunny, when I was little my mum was the master at hiding eggs. One once stayed unnoticed by anyone but my mum who would move it to dust then put it back until nearly Christmas, it was a mini egg, a dark one placed on a wooden ornament. It was not eaten.

I am also giving gifts to my DS his birthday and Christmas happen within days of each other and giving something at Easter seems like a good time to give something summery. This year he got some schleich Farm animals and a buttons egg... and a sandpit. The sandpit was from my parents who gave him a token gift for his birthday and something bigger for Easter. Not sure he would have wanted the sandpit in Jan!

I'm in Germany, have been for the best part of two decades, and honestly not aware of it being the norm that the EB/Nikolaus bring presents as opposed to chocolate and maybe a tiny tiny toy, although obv I have heard of the dc's friends getting presents 'for Nikolaus'. Ours get chocolate (not huge amounts either). Small dd is three so got a (small) fluffy bunny alongside two small bunnies yesterday. For Nikolaus one year they got a Christmas tree decoration each IIRC. Presents are for Christmas and birthdays.

It's become a thing recently, not for everyone of course.

My kids' classmates get more than a satsuma/nut in a boot now but I only get them a chocolate santa myself. I don't think Easter Bunny brings toys here as a norm, no, but the Easter markets and well dressings seem bigger than the UK's and more coloured actual eggs available (hate them myself, give me Lindt anyday). I noticed Kinderegg were doing all their cuddly toys again as were milka and playmobil had eggs with a German milkmaid in and sheep. I passed on that Wink

Such a large family that the D.C. would get a ridiculous amount of chocolate so some of us buy presents. Easter and Christmas they are getting such a lot simply because of the large family.
