Does the Easter Bunny bring toys to your children?

I am married and have a lovely DSS, he was at our house until yesterday afternoon where the Easter Bunny came and brought his eggs early. He has phoned today asking where his presents are off the Easter Bunny at our house as he brought him a few things at his mum's & some eggs. Can't remember this happening last year but I'm pretty gobsmacked. AIBU to think he only brings eggs? Toys are for Christmas and birthdays!

We do toys at Easter. From the Easter bunny my dd got an Easter egg, slime making kit, some jojo siwa stuff, lol dolls, the little hatchimals, roller skates and a fingerling. She also got a bike but that wasn’t really an Easter present just something she needed. From family she got clothes, books and Easter eggs.
We didn’t make a big deal of Easter until she started nursery and wanted to know why she was the only person that didn’t get toys from the Easter bunny.

reluctantbrit · 21/04/2019 21:28

Yes, due to the fact that DD always gets so much chocolate from the grandparents and also during primary school she had tons from her childminder, clubs leaders, teacher, Easter egg hunts etc.

It doesn’t have to be a toy though, we had books, CDs, toys, clothes and other items, this year it was a cereal bowl.

Loving reading the replies! I definitely think the Easter Bunny either shouldn't exist at all or be real and bring every child the same, as pps have said it's going to be unfair when some kids at school got piles of to us from him and others got a single egg. To answer a previous question, he is 5 and his mum knows he rang as he uses her phone to phone us most days.

We never did the EB. Some people seem to elevate it to Santa like status which I find a bit Confused. Mine only get eggs from whoever gives them. My son’s birthday is in April so not buying yet more bloody presents for the sake of it

YouBumder · 21/04/2019 21:45

The children will then tell other children at school, who will then wonder why they didn't get these things.

Mine have always just grown up knowing the EB wasn’t real. I don’t see it as a Santa type figure so never bought into treating it the same.

Why must people continually increase expectations? I know each to their own blah blah but honestly, it seems like every tradition has to be improved upon by spending more money, buying more crap and generally putting more pressure on people to make everything so much more magical. It's exhausting!

Totally agree.

Merryoldgoat · 21/04/2019 21:45

My son chose his egg at the supermarket and Easter Bunny hid mini eggs round the living room.

Not much effort here...

CheshireChat · 21/04/2019 22:38

I think the Easter bunny might be getting more of a thing as quite a lot of countries have this tradition. It's hard enough to introduce kids to customs from a different country/ culture, presents just make it easier.

SkaTastic · 21/04/2019 22:47

No Easter bunny here and there never ever has been. No idea when such a mad concept gained such a huge following. Mine got an egg from us, one from grandma and one from their uncle. And my littlest has a peanut allergy so can't even have his!

SkaTastic · 21/04/2019 22:49

Also my eldest commented that isn't it a shame that we have so many relatives who have passed away so they don't get as many eggs as their mates. How sad, really brought a tear to my eye. No great grandparents or grandparents on my husband's side.

DuffBeer · 21/04/2019 22:51

Personally I find Easter to be a load of bollocks! Ours got one egg from a family member and £10 from Grandma. I didn't buy any eggs Confused

Whoops75 · 21/04/2019 22:58

My neighbors kids got bikes mine got eggs.

Kids don’t know yet, I saw it on fbAngry

standardaccount · 21/04/2019 23:03

I bought DD two wee toys (£15 for both), an Easter egg and some chocolate stuff. My mum and my aunt bought her an outfit each and an Easter egg.

reluctantbrit · 21/04/2019 23:28

I am from German Andy he Ester Bunny is a big thing.like St. Nikolaus who brings sweets and a present at the 6th of December. I would never take that away from DD just because her classmate just got an egg or nothing at all.

Similar to Father Christmas, in some families he brings everything, some children just get the stocking or one present.

As far as I remember DD never boasted that she got xx from the Easter Bunny, she didn’t even text a friend today that she got the booking for Universal Florida from him instead of the Harry Potter pillow she hinted about.

CheshireChat · 22/04/2019 01:50

reluctantbrit same here, though I'm not German Wink. We do the 1st of June as well as it's children's Day

I like it, it's a bit more festive all year round.

PregnantSea · 22/04/2019 08:02

I don't think it's an established thing to buy kids toys for Easter, but I can see people choosing to do that if they don't want to give their DC chocolate for any reason.

Soubriquet · 22/04/2019 08:16

I buy my dc a small toy each

They get enough chocolate from family

Notquiteagandt · 22/04/2019 08:17

When I was a child. We did easter crafts and an egg hunt. I got a book an egg and a new dress/outfit. Never did easter bunny though. I knew it was from mainly my grandparents. (Simular too what they said they did as children-both be in their late 90s now if still alive).

I made my little girl an easter basket this year and got her a dress. Purely as shes too small for chocolate. Keeping my family traditions I got her some themed books. Thats not my chick/lamb/ bunny. Some egg shakers, rabbit bell rattle, a chick wash cloth & a chick toy as well as some carrot shaped teething chew things.

Probally went a little over the top as its her 1st. But shes only small once.

We have some crafty bits too play with today with some easter ribbons.

Notquiteagandt · 22/04/2019 08:20

Interesting about the german thing. A german relitive of mine via marriege sent the baby a hamper of bath toys. I thought it was sweet. But makes more sense now.

SimplyPut · 22/04/2019 08:25

The Easter bunny left our DC's eggs, a treasure trail and at the end € for their upcoming holiday. We bought them some new clothes on Saturday as a treat but not specifically for Easter.

DonkeyHohtay · 22/04/2019 08:25

We don't have "the easter bunny" in this house. It was never a thing when I was growing up. People gave us eggs. End of story.

And now I have my own kids, we buy them eggs. No letters, no carrots, no toys, no Easter decorations, no other nonsense.

Hate Christmas as it is never mind people trying to turn Easter into another one.

littlemeitslyn · 22/04/2019 08:34

Small presents here, don't agree with eggs !

User28817462737483899 · 22/04/2019 08:34

No Easter bunny here! But mummy and daddy hide little egg shapes presents (it was moshi monster eggs and dinosaur smasher eggs this year) round the garden for a mini egg hunt. Cost no more than about £8 per child. (Some years we get little plastic eggs and put £1 toys in each one to hide round garden) They get chocolate from relatives, and we don't like them eating too much of it (to be honest, they aren't that fussed about chocolate anyway). They loved their egg hunt this year. Smile

LotsToThinkOf · 22/04/2019 08:44

Nope, the Easter Bunny can hop on. It’s not a thing.

Christmas, no problem, I’ll make all the fuss necessary. I’m not being dragged into yet another commercialised, competitive, pressured ‘holiday’ for the sake of it. We buy the DC chocolate eggs, friends and family do the same (we buy for them too). But I’m not buying toys etc.

People go OTT. There was a thread on here the other day from someone who thought their child had figured out the Easter Bunny wasn’t real (or similar situation, I couldn’t be bothered to read the whole thing). Honestly??

It’s not good for DC to be lavished with gifts every opportunity. Half of it is done for social media anyway, picture perfect with grateful DC - I highly doubt that any of it goes as smoothly and prefect as portrayed, it after all that hype.

daisypond · 22/04/2019 08:51

I have never heard of the Easter bunny until the last couple of years. Have never done it. Definitely no presents at Easter. A chocolate egg each - from parents. What’s a bunny doing with eggs?

Layza101 · 22/04/2019 09:45

Mine got 2 eggs and a few jelly things and a book each. My eldest loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid and saw there was a brand new book from the wimpy kids best friend, so this book is called 'Diary of a awesome friendly kid' which he loved Grin
