to think 10 is too old to believe in the Easter Bunny?

So I'm not sure if I am being incredibly judgemental, but my friend's kid is 10, 11 in June and he still believes..

I've never come across a kid that old who still believed. I'm sure me and all my friends clocked on way before then...it seems a little strange to me that at 10 you can still truly believe a giant bunny hops around the world delivering eggs?

Never dinevthe Easter Bunny. Santa and The (very flakey) Tooth Fairy are hard enough work.

PiggoSuperstar · 21/04/2019 17:51

*never done 🙄

grasspigeons · 21/04/2019 17:55

We set up an easter egg hunt in the garden every year and our child decided the easter bunny existed without us. He is 10 but does have SN. Im surprised he believes to be honest but i dont have the heart to tell him as most of his everyday life is pretty crap and he really enjoys it. He cant cope with christmas (to many relatives) so its nice to see him with a proper childhoid smile sometimes.

Nillynally · 21/04/2019 18:06

And yet some people expect their children to believe someone rose from the dead. I'll take Easter bunnies over zombies any day.

Comefromaway · 21/04/2019 19:04

Never done the Elf either.

Santa yes because it’s virtually impossible to avoid and it is a very old tradition based on St Nicholas.

PlatypusLeague · 21/04/2019 19:48

don't understand why people seem to be so dismissive of Easter traditions, but at Christmas it's all "what family tradition can I start?" "What is your elf up to?"

I agree and it would have been kinder not to pick Easter Sunday of all days for some of the most cynical, sneering comments.

Girlicorne · 21/04/2019 20:06

YABU. My two are 9 and 11 (will be 10 and 12 later in the year) they definitely still believe in santa and we did the easter bunny thing this morning as we do every year. They seemed convinced! Ds 9 and a half lost a tooth earlier this week and put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy. Kids grow up way way too quickly, let them believe in the magic as long as they can!

blackcat86 · 21/04/2019 20:09

Really? Is this a thing. I didnt think that kids actually believe in an Easter bunny! In going to have to sort my shit out soon - fortunately DD is only 8 months. Yes 10 is far too old. DHs cousin still believes in Santa at 10. He's starting secondary school in September and is so babied. Its going to be a tricky transition

Scabetty · 21/04/2019 20:10

Too old for any of it tbh: santa, bunny, tooth fairy.

Marinated · 21/04/2019 20:16

Another one who doesn't think he really believes but is hedging his bets. In which case fairplay!

@Sarahjconnor in germany we always got hard boiled eggs in pretty painted shells. The agreed narative it seems is that the easter bunny delivers all the eggs but has an army of hen laying eggs for the event and other bunnies in the egg factory paint them.

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 21:46

sarah you need to get out more of the thought of a kid believing in the Easter bunny sends you and your entire family into hysterics. What happens if you see something genuinely surprising? Do you all fall to the floor in shock?

Pixie2015 · 21/04/2019 21:47

I would believe in the Easter bunny at any age if eggs were hidden in the garden for a fun hunt

Aprilladvised · 22/04/2019 07:56

Sarahjconnor and her family are so superior!

I hope the sun managed to break through the clouds of smug that surround you this weekend.

my2bundles · 22/04/2019 08:01

I have an 11 year old but most his his class mates are still 10. I've found its a sort off in between stage where they are starting to realise santa etc isn't real. It's not unusual to still belive at 10 some of DS friends do, some don't. By high school they will no doubt have outgrown it.

jetadore · 22/04/2019 08:01

There's a thread on here right now with "adults" discussing how to 'cleanse' an 'unlucky' house. So I'd say no.

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 22/04/2019 08:33

Had no idea Easter bunny was a thing until reading all the posts on Mumsnet.

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2019 09:00

I just read a thread title about leaving a carrot for the Easter bunny Shock what a palava

LotsToThinkOf · 22/04/2019 09:05

Any age is too old, my 6 and 3 yo chose their own eggs and ate them yesterday. No Easter Bunny, it’s not a thing.

BertrandRussell · 22/04/2019 09:08

He doesn’t, you know. If you had been with us yesterday, you would have thought my 18 year old believed - he did the egg hiding for his little cousins and their friends, then went hunting with them with his own basket. Grin

BertrandRussell · 22/04/2019 09:11

“There's a thread on here right now with "adults" discussing how to 'cleanse' an 'unlucky' house. So I'd say no.”

Yep. And that, my friends is why we should let them stop “believing” naturally when their reason and critical thinking kicks in.

Stop being such a miserable old sod! You don't have to take part in every tradition but the Easter bunny is no more strange than father Christmas and actually is a bit less commercial. I never did the Easter bunny when I was little (hadn't even heard of it) I did Easter your way, chose an egg and ate it. It was no fun - just an excuse to eat too much chocolate. An easter egg hunt and a silly bunny tradition definitely make it a lot more interesting.

DeadWife · 22/04/2019 09:34

*I've never heard of the Easter bunny as a thing. I think they are an American thing that had been picked up here by Cadbury in the last couple of years
*
I really wish people would occasionally pick up a history book. Wouldn't do any harm would it?

Easter like Christmas and Halloween are ancient Pagan festivals originating in Northern Europe renamed for the far more recent interventions of the Christian church.

Eostre was a great northern goddess whose symbol was a rabbit or hare, eggs were exchanged, often decorated in celebration of the beginning of Spring and new life.

I can't believe some of the reactions over not hearing of the Easter bunny or the fact some people cannot get their heads around children believing in it 😂😂

I was brought up with the Easter bunny and DC who is 3 also is in on the tradition

It's hardly the worse thing in the world 😂
