To not care about getting my pale, pale legs out?

It’s fucking boiling.

Now that that’s been said, I’ve sorted my spring/summer capsule wardrobe properly, and the shorts are out, and the tights I would normally wear with dresses and skirts have been put away.

I am, and have always been, extremely pale. Fair skin, fair hair, always buy the 000001 shade in foundation, etc. I don’t tan naturally, and I don’t want to use the fake stuff.

So many of my friends always comment that they aren’t ready to get their legs out without tanning first, etc, and the last couple of years I’ve had lots of shocked comments at the fact that I’ll walk around with my “plucked chicken skin” (thanks Hmm ) legs out in the summer.

AIBU to really, really not give a damn? And to think I’ll wear a pair of white denim shorts if I want, without listening to people going, “Oooh, but they’d look much nicer if your legs were tanned”?

Mine are always pale, I literally don't tan. My only change of colour is from white, to red, back to white again. I still get them out in all their glory, hair and all Grin

Goodenough06 · 21/04/2019 13:29

Fellow milk bottle leg person here too! A drunk, twatty man in a pub once made a point of coming over just to inform me that 'you're hot but you'd be much hotter if you had a tan.' Wow thanks! I just laughed and told him my husband can't get enough of my skin.

SachaStark · 21/04/2019 13:30

I’m exactly the same, Bambamber! I stick to the shade mostly on days like today, as I burn very quickly, even with high factor protection, and people always go, “Oh, but if you stay in the sun enough, you will tan eventually!”

Nope! No, no. Even when I lived in Mexico for a while, it was white, red, white again, and so on.

I couldn't care less, I'm not going out in shorts to show my legs off, I'm going out in shorts because it's hot so I don't care what people think.

EngagedAgain · 21/04/2019 13:32

My only concern is that you've packed away the winter stuff too soon OP 🤣 Also regards to comments, my friend suddenly out of the blue, one day said, 'haven't you got hairy feet'! 😡 Making me feel like a yeti. They're not that hairy at all, so she's got a flipping cheek.

Colinthedog · 21/04/2019 13:33

I can’t be bothered with fake tan any more either. I’m also nearly 7 months pregnant so my legs are currently much chunkier than usual, as well as pale (and hard to shave as my bump keeps getting in the way Grin) But it’s hot and i’ve decided I really just don’t care!

ooooohbetty · 21/04/2019 13:37

I don't care either. People often comment that they have never seen legs as white as mine. I'm not pale anywhere else though. Just my snowy white legs.

NicksWife08 · 21/04/2019 13:38

I'm naturally dark, darker than my husband who is part Indian. But yet I still have really white legs, and not just white but also complete with a few scars from an Achilles tendon revision. So I look odd with a dark face, slightly lighter upper body and then very white legs.

I've got them out, it's too hot and I'm not one bit bothered.

lhw92 · 21/04/2019 13:39

Yadnbu! Wear what you like
Funnily enough I hate getting my legs out because my skin tone is so dark and dull Grin

Figmentofimagination · 21/04/2019 13:45

My pasty white legs are out! I've even shaved them today in preparation for wearing a pretty dress and going out for a meal later. I don't care about my legs being white, I do care about the giant plaster stuck to the back of my right leg since I cut myself (again) shaving 🤦🏻‍♀️.

TheLongRider · 21/04/2019 13:46

Women really are our own worst critics! Do you really think that most blokes give a toss what anyone else thinks about their hairy legs or beer guts?

You don't see most men agonising over the state of their bodies. Be kinder to yourself.

Xenia · 21/04/2019 13:51

My legs are always very white. I come back from exotic holidays the whitest person on the plane. It's fine. It's how we are made. Nothing wrong with it. Mine currently have a nice fleece of longish hairs on them (my lovely fur) too although might shave them before our summer holiday.

Princessfaffalot · 21/04/2019 13:51

Not at all! Got these burn on a full moon legs out today, dh always tells me I glow in the dark I’m so pale! Be pale and interesting with pride OP ☺️

Justmuddlingalong · 21/04/2019 14:15

The only colour I have on my transparent legs is a blue varicose vein. Couldn't care any less.

RoyalChocolat · 21/04/2019 14:18

I am very pale too (and I live in the southern half of France).
I love my English rose complexion and would never use fake tan.

What is the problem with having pale legs? No one has ever said anything to me.

redexpat · 21/04/2019 14:27

Its body shaming. So the people doing it can fuck off.

NancyPickford · 21/04/2019 14:40

I start out pale blue, two weeks in the Med turns me pink, and then back home I revert to pale blue. A friend once said I looked like an 'anaemic milk bottle'. But my legs are now both pale and fat so I stick to maxi dresses and loose cotton trousers in the heat.

trinitybleu · 21/04/2019 16:06

Pale as pale can be here too, chicken skin effect as well. I just burn. And I'm fat. Still have them out.

NettleTea · 21/04/2019 16:09

I have lymphodema. I have to wear knee high compression stockings. Id give my eye teeth to have my pale legs out in this heat

GlitterPixie · 21/04/2019 16:10

If doesnt bother me at all I never use fake tan

NettleTea · 21/04/2019 16:11

and I used to do the blue-white - slightly red - blue thing when I had them out pre my early 40s

Roomba · 21/04/2019 16:12

My legs are the same and I don't give a toss now. Weirdly I tan very easily everywhere else - and my legs tanned easily when I was younger. But they now refuse to budge shade from almost blue, it's like the melanin has stopped work in even if I spend weeks in very hot countries they look exactly the same afterwards!

JacquesHammer · 21/04/2019 16:13

I protect my whiter than white skin fiercely.

Managed a winter sun break with no tanning so far this year Grin

ScreamingValenta · 21/04/2019 16:15

I'm far too old to care! I did give them a once over with my husband's disposable razor since they hadn't been shaved since September, but that was my only concession to vanity. They're pale, they're flabby and they're out.

Lottapianos · 21/04/2019 16:21

Jesus, some people are so bloody rude. Ignore them if you can. Nothing wrong with your skin colour, however pale it is
